Went into this ready to hate on it because I haven't liked a single live action film they've done. From what I watched it looks stunning, from the background to the characters. I can't say anything about the voice acting as I can't hear them so your milage will vary and same for the music. Did Zimmer return to score the film? Because that would make my day knowing he's back. It gave me chills just like the first time I watched the original trailer and it feels the same. Well played Disney.
Not only is Hans Zimmer back, but so are Elton John and Tim Rice, the lyricists; Mark Mancina, the man who arranged each song; Lebo M, the man who sang “Nants ingonyama bagathi si baba” and gave the movie its Swahili flavor; and Julie Taymor, Director of the Broadway adaptation, serves as an executive producer.
You know how this looks? Like I was watching a National Geographic documentary on lions, with someone narrating an epic Shakespearian story over it. It does not feel like the animals are talking, it feels like someone filmed real animals (so yes, impressive CGI) and did voiceover on it. Berber lions (now extinct subspecies sadly) had full on dark brown/black manes that even continued on their underbelly. And this is CGI so they could have had Scar have the classic look. At any rate, seems the same story just with far less expressive real lions. Not really interested and still fail to see why this needs to exist. Remake it with CGI, fine, just keep the original cartoony designs and add fur texture and more detail, like Kung Fu Panda or Ice Age. These models, same as Dumbo, are not expressive enough. Or do what Andy Serkis did with Mowgli, use face capture tech, make the characters look a bit like the actors.
Doesn't also help that black maned lions are considered more attractive to females. So if Scar was black maned... oo la la. Since they're going for as realistic lions as possible, having a black maned male that isn't Mufasa would take the whole point of Scar being a bachelor in the first place.
That's fantastic, here I was hoping for at least one and to have all of them back exceeded my expectations.
The only petty and embarrassing thing going on around here are people crying "bloody murder" over the hair color of an animated lion, who, as I pointed out in an earlier post, isn't even far off from what black-maned lions actually look like. I know it will probably hurt to look at these, but for your consideration, the black-maned lion. Note how the lighting can make it a bit hard to distinguish the darker fur in the first and fourth pics, something we kind of see in the trailer.
I think it looks good. I will judge Scar once I see the movie his look does not bother I was just expecting him to have a scar to fit his name. As for voice acting again not going to judge until I see the movie.
I know he has a scar my sentence saying that was the only thing I expect from a live-action scar I don't care about fur colors or his mane So far I think scar looks good and sounds okay.
I'll bet everyone is fully aware of KIMBA THE WHITE LION parallelism with Lion King... - Both story is about dealing with Death of a Parent - The protagonist offspring needs to prove himself - Have a side kick parrot - Have an Elder Adviser Baboon - The antagonist is a Lion - The name of Lion King and Kimba's only difference is the 1st letter of their name
1- No. Jungle Emperor is about making peace with the worlds of man and animals, not Leo dealing with the death of a father he never knew. 2- Almost. In Jungle Emperor, Leo needed to prove that he can rule the jungle and make peace between animals and man, while in the Lion King Simba needed to take responsibility to become the new king. 3- No. In Jungle Emperor it's a parrot, but in The Lion King it's a Hornbill. 4- Not quite. In Jungle Emperor Mandy is a main character who acted as Leo's surrogate father figure, while in the Lion King Rafiki barely had any relationship with Simba. 5- First off: The character's original name is Leo. Second, Simba is a real word. It means "Lion" in Swahili, and when the American dub was working in the series they changed the name to Kimba instead of Leo to not be confused with the MGM lion.
Or you know, they could have made it fully black this since it is BLOODY CGI and they can do whatever the hell they want, nobody is gonna cry foul for realism.
Maybe I'm missing something, but what is the point of a "Live Action" version of a film that only has animals? That means it's all CGI, and thus... not live action?
It's a photo-realistic remake being made to suck out the money milk of the nostalgia boob. Honestly, I'm skipping this and all other remakes Disney makes. If I want to watch the Lion King I'll just watch the original animated version.
