Add-on's for Ginrai? If you're talking about God Ginrai, Perfect Effect did a set that handled that, but at this point it's started selling out.

ironhide isnt getting a retool in a later wave, ratchet is exclusive and outside of the wave breakdowns

Actually, they’re still at BBTS. It’s just the filler pieces for the thighs and the filler pieces for the feet and Godbomber's arms are 2 separate packs and cost roughly $35 each.

The God Ginrai set is also still there, but is $150+, so...yeah.

EDIT: Speaking of thigh pieces, did anyone ever make thigh fillers for POTP Evolution Optimus?

Probably so. That still doesn't affect fan perception of value, though. If TT had thrown in a repainted Siege Micromaster Race Car Patrol figure as Hot Rod, fans would have been eating this up.

If anything, I hope it renews interest in the old Legends Class Hot Rod.

Not really the same thing as there is no "spot" for Star Convoy to take here, the Generations Select line isn't the same as the regular retail line and doesn't have the same limitations about releases that like it or not have to be accepted by fans. It's an exclusive that is being offered at a much higher price point, which more than means it's fair game for the nitpicking. And saying Takara's intentions are "clearly" or "obviously" what they are doesn't erase those criticisms, either, because you can still not like those intentions.

Neither does the "would you rather just have no Star Convoy?" argument. You can still want the character and not be satisfied with what was given. Not just buying this up because "Star Convoy!" and saving the hefty $80 + tax/shipping for maybe something better down the road is not just an acceptable alternative, if someone really doesn't like this version it's also the responsible alternative, too.

 

PC-18 is $35 or so and has the stuff specifically for the God Ginrai combiner. The stuff to give Ginrai a better chest, or an inner robot, are extra sets. (Unless something changed...I've been eyeing kits lately.)

But that's part of the overall assessment. All of these additional toolings/repaints are getting pushed out to exclusives...and in some cases it seems like that's to compensate for the additional cost of the tooling.

Look at the kinds of things that have been exclusives that could have potentially filled out waves:
1. Brainstorm (TR)
2. Wreck-Gar (PotP)
3. Arcee (TR)
4. Grotusque (TR)
5. Repugnus (TR)
6. Ricochet (PotP)
7. Ratchet (Siege)
8. Orion Pax (TR)
9. Greenlight (PotP/Siege)
10. Lancer

The alternative is they don't do him. Or they do him "better" and he costs more than $80 because of the extra work that went into it. At which point Takara/Hasbro risk turning off buyers because the price gets too steep.

Not buying a toy is always an option. And the possibility of something else being done doesn't change the conversation about this being done. That is to say, this Star Convoy doesn't mean there will never be another Star Convoy attempt.

Keep getting the ‘couldn’t process payment’ error.

Tried it on two browsers and my phone, same problem on all of them.

 

Still waiting for a 3P company to do an add on set for vainilla POTP OP so that I can have the look of Star Convoy, not spend +$80, and don't have 2 figures that look almost the same side by side. Already did that with TR PMOP and "Magnus Prime" and felt stupid.

Now in all seriousness, that's why I'm skipping this figure, to me it looks too much like what I described: the base OP with add-on parts to make Star Convoy.

Now this has zero chance of happening, but maybe a different colorscheme, even if its not accurate to anything before would have been preferable to me. I'm a visual person that isn't that aware of many details. That's why I preffered Hasbro Computron (more color diversity) vs Takara's (Solid red robot to my eyes).

I am happy I got a preorder in (with Hasbro Pulse to boot). He's no the greatest thing ever. I can admit that, but I like it enough to pick it up.

 

It genuinely drives me nuts that this version is getting what amounts to Ginrai and the POTP version got Orion. Just not a fan of Orion. Both alt modes are a mess, but the Star Convoy version suits it better than Orion IMO.

Surprised there's no 3P replacement legs/arms/chest/head. Or a 3D printable option.

Worst part is I think I could still buy this if the combined mode wasn't a bit of a turd. Would end up with one set that is exactly what a want, and another set that will sit in a box or I'll have to try and sell.
