Arcee has very much the same problem, in that she was designed as a character first with no real regards to transformation, and I dislike her design for much the same reason.

Though she was also designed in the 80's before we had over thirty years of TF design evolution and history to draw on.

Shockwave makes up for his obvious lack of alt mode by 1. having an obvious alt mode that the character can change into, and 2. having such an obviously robotic, classy design that fits right in with the other Transformers characters of his time.

Whom everybody hates, for pretty much the same reasons.

Like Shockwave, Galvatron is just a fantastic design, and while it's not obvious what his alt mode is, he has oddities and kibble to his body that create an impression that there's more to him than just being a robot man. The shoulder things, tread blocks on his arms, support strut on his back. Like Arcee he had the problem of being designed without regards to the toy, but he also is just a really good design period. In fact he almost acts as a bridge between the classic TFs and the newer, more rounded 86 cast members.

Emirate Xaaron? You mean that generic hi-and-die who was based on G1 Megatron and nobody really cares about?

yep. looks like they put wings on a white version of the current fembot mold from POTP and Siege. That is neither a complaint nor a compliment.

Hes a great artist, but I think the aesthetic looks a bit too similar to the previous series. It's an okay design, but I kind of agree with the people saying it looks like a DeviantArt fan art. It looks a bit overdone and slightly gaudy (not nearly as bad as Windblade, but I get a similar vibe). It's possible she'll look a bit more streamlined in the comic.

 

Okay now you’re just being ridiculous. Forget it man. Transformers can not be obvious to what they turn into or turn into nothing at all. It’s happened for years and it still happens now.

Then what separates transformers from any other kind of robot show? Kibble makes the robots visually interesting, without it...well, they're just metal humans.

 

It has robots that look like they turn into things. But there ones that either don’t or also aren’t as clear. They coexist. Just cause one robot who has no clear indication of what they turn into doesn’t mean this whole franchise is fucked. And there also ain’t another franchise running today that you’d confuse for transformers. It’s fine. We don’t need to worry so much.

 

Transformation with kibble isn't all that unique in robot shows anyhow. Yeah, I know I'm committing blasphemy here. Macross and Daitarn 3 come to mind as pre-Transformers designs with "kibble." Hell, Zeta Gundam has its entire Waverider mode on its back. It's just a design feature imo.

That's more of a reference to a play pattern for toys that were originally packaged in alt-mode. Things that don't resemble robots change into robots.

Intentional subterfuge is only really implied in the case of "Decepticons".

Just going to throw my hat in the ring and say I also think this looks like some Deviantart OC crap. I suppose the design isn't that bad, and I dig the colours, but it's about as lazy as lazy gets for originality (or lack thereof).

 

Just for clarification, insulting other users or the design? Because it's pretty easy to view most criticism of a work as an insult.
