WB Reportedly Developing A Martian Manhunter Movie Riding on the success of Marvel's shapeshifting green aliens, comes DC's own shapeshifting green alien! Except this one can read minds and is a hero! I think Terence Howard or Denzel Washington would make a good J'onn J'onzz.
Sooooo, is there a clear plan on what DC's doing? I'm not hating, but I'm confused on the number of films they've announced. After Aquaman was successful, WB already announced a spin-off. There's a potential Blue Beetle and Booster Gold, a Black Adam, and now a Martian Manhunter. It all just seems confusing to me.
well after the failure of Justice League, cancelling Cyborgs' film & the Flash project still unable to pull itself together, they seem to be firmly in the "throw everything at the wall & see what sticks" phase of universe-building. And frankly I'm all for it; it's WAY past time they explored heroes other than Batman & kinda-sorta Superman.
Hey if they are planning to go JLI I'd be all for it. That era would be much more audience friendly than their last attempt. The current movies they have done/ planned could easly set up that cast.
Alright. There's probably potential here. Considering 2022 is open aside from that December release for Aquaman 2, I could see that film happening in 2022 if they found someone interested in the project. I will continue to be skeptical and not accept this as news until it is confirmed.
How well did J'onn's few solo books do? I want to be excited by this, because I do really like the character, but when I think of Martian Manhunter I automatically think of the League...
Martian Manhunter?! Yes please! I'm okay with anyone playing the lead role (since he's a shape shifter) so long as (somewhere in the film) he changes his form to a - Mark Hamil b - John Nobel and c - Harrison Ford. jD001
I could see this one working in an Avatar sort of way. I do tend to prefer Martian Manhunter as part of a team though. If they want to get someone a bit younger, I’d say Ricky Whittle from The 100 and American Gods would be a decent pick.
I don't know how they did, or how his current one is doing, but I do like his current solo book (even the art, which I guess isn't to everyone's taste).
Well, considering WB/DC's OTHER apparent-last-survivor-of-his-race alien superhero has been completely scuttled at this point, this kinda makes sense. As long as whatever roll they're on holds out and they sign on another filmmaker who realizes right away that they're being paid by a bunch of suit-wearing chimpanzees, we should be good.
I really liked his character in the JL cartoons. Hopefully they do it like that, but branch out a bit.
The current book has been an interesting reimagining of the character's origin and early years. I've been enjoying it a lot so far. I especially like their take on Mars life, and how they're making it different from previous versions. Also having J'Onn be a flawed character on Mars makes his backstory more interesting. But this is probably only the second series I've ever liked the character in. The first being the 3-issue American Secrets mini series. Other than that, I find him to be one of the most boring, flat characters ever created. Even Ostrander and Mandrake, two creators I love, couldn't make him interesting for me. For most of his modern career, he's been nothing but a glorified telephone system for the Justice League. Before that, in the classic comics, he was a poorboy imitation of Superman with no personality whatsoever. In between those two eras, he was most known for eating Oreo cookies and standing around so he could react to Booster and Beetle's repetitive shenanigans. It's hard to see what they could build a movie around.
With General Swanwick being revealed as the Manhunter, that was probably an idea to insert him into the DCEU series. Rumor says the Manhunter's full appearance will be seen in the Snyder Cut. Time will tell whether that can lead to him having his own film.
Well that's looking at things positively, but until there's casting news or a trailer, I think we should take this as rumor.
Wonder if they will take his detective human form from the 90s solo? Also wonder if miss martian will show up?
This could be cool if done right. Unfortunately, it seems like DC/WB still isn't trying to plan or think about what they're doing and that got them in trouble the last time, but I guess as long as they aren't rushing to another team-up. Still, feels like they're just throwing shit at the wall and hoping it sticks right now. I like J'onn though so hopefully this turns out to be fantastic. Color me cautiously optimistic on this one.
