With the release of Masterpiece BW Megatron and the other recent release of MP BW Dinobot, I was inspired to create a fight night topic pitting these two iconic Beast Wars characters against the iconic leader of the Dinobots, Grimlock. Basically one bad dino versus two other bad dinos.

So that everything is consistent right off the bat, these are the Beast Wars TV show versions of Dinobot and Megatron versus the version of Grimlock as portrayed in the recently-concluded IDW comic book continuity. As for combat situation, I am thinking physical combat - nothing ranged here. I guess it would be a cage match.

EDIT: And for scale? Yeah, the BW characters were actually quite tiny, so let's even things out, with Megatron being about the size of Grimlock and Dinobot being a little smaller.

I'll start off with my opinion: I think IDW Grimlock can defeat both of them either in single combat or in a 2-on-1 engagement. He has demonstrated superb physical prowess and close-combat skills against multiple enemies at the same time, particularly when he cleaved his way through Scorponok's minions in the tail end of Lost Light (I'm sure there were other instances that I can't remember). Grimlock's also a big guy; I imagine him being the size of BW Megatron, if not bigger, and therefore much bigger than BW Dinobot.

Thanks for the reminder. I established a scale assumption. I now remember how the BW characters were either very small, or the G1 characters were very big. Either way, these Predacons might as well be fighting a combiner if we're referencing the TV show!

I love the BW guys more, but Grimlock has this one. He’s a terminator among the most powerful foes in TF history.

Megatron would be able to outwit him & defeat him somehow using tricks & cunning, but in a straight-up fist fight, he’ll crumble. And that’s ok. One of the things I always loved about BW Megatron, was that he *WASN’T* the ultimate, invincible force of evil that so many other versions of Megatron (or other villains) have been portrayed as. Most of the Maximals have defeated Megatron under the right circumstances.

Rattrap took him out with a cattle prod in “Double Jeapordy.”
Rhinox took him out with a nuclear fart in “The Low Road.”
Cheetor took him out Tasmanian Devil style in “Feral Scream.”
Dinobot took him out most famously in “Code of Hero (and a ton of others).
Terrorsaur took him out in “Power Surge.”
Silverbolt took him down in “Coming of the Fuzors part 2.”
Ravage restrained him in “The Agenda part 1,” (even though I think it was part of his plan to get captured).

Suffice to say- BW Megatron was never portrayed as in the invincible powerhouse that other Megatrons have been. And I always thought it raised the stakes more, because he couldn’t just eat a ton of lasers & missiles and laugh it off.

Other TF shows got stale, because it never mattered what Autobot fought Megatron. You knew they would never win, because Optimus was the only one allowed to beat him. Pretty lame after a while. Seemed to be a problem most prevalent in the anime series.

Anyway- Grimlock would win in a direct fight. But if he had the time & resources, BW Megs could bring down a whole planet (and has).

Surprised to see so many thinking Megatron is the bigger foe when Dinobot wrecked him multiple times.

In fact, did Megatron ever beat Dinobot?

Even in his Transmetal II body, Megs stands no chance against IDW or G1 characters. They're waaay too strong and waaay too tanky.

Dinobot's superior skill won't help him either.
