A bought a old toy biz Marvel Legends icons 12 inch Thor recently. Overall he is a great figure but he does have those old ball hip joints and one is hard to move. I was surprised how heavy he is.
Agreed with some response. Hasbro extending more waves doesn’t seem like a bad idea from their perspective or collectors who want more figures. As for including Mar-Vell in the wave, makes sense but doesn’t introduce obscure characters as well as what they did. Anyone with any interest can come up with Mar-Vell after seeing the movie but if Marvel and Hasbro do their jobs well, people will end up buying Mar-Vell anyways in a later wave or even as an exclusive. At this point, with other companies making better versions of the main comic characters, ML’s main draw for me is obscure characters and I love them for doing as many as they do. I’d have to wait an eternity to get someone like Citizen V or Elsa Bloodstone from Amazing Yamaguchi and even if they did make them, I’m not sure I need the extra quality nor would I want to pay the premium to get them. OK, maybe I would but in this sense, Marvel Legends are the perfect supplement for me. In a more ideal world, Marvel Legends could just make specific waves for everything like all MCU specific movie, all obscure comic, all one comic team, etc...and even better yet, charge a premium for MCU waves (like $25 each) to subsidize obscure comic style waves that are discounted ($10 ea) to take advantage of the hype of MCU and reward the longtime fans who want all the comic characters.
Original Captain Marvel (Mar-Vell) is my #1 most wanted figure and I would absolutely love to get him but I totally understand why Hasbro didn't put him in this wave. They couldn't put a comic figure called Captain Marvel on shelves next to the movie version - casual fans would be confused. They couldn't put a comic figure called Mar-Vell on shelves as there is a completely different character with the same name in the current movie - casual fans would be confused. Their hands were kinda tied on this one. But that doesn't excuse them from giving us Grey Gargole in a "cosmic" wave instead of.... Quasar, High Evolutionary, Blue Marvel, America Chavez, Moondragon, Phyla-Vell, Pip, Beta Ray Bill, Annihilus, Blastaar, Terrax, Firelord, Air-Walker, Starfox, Nova (herald), other Heralds, Cosmic Ghost Rider, Imperial Guard members, Starjammers, original GOTG, more Inhumans, Wraith, Elders of the Universe, etc., etc., etc., etc., etc., etc............
Tombstone is underrated. The face sculpt and paint is off the hook. My favorite figure from that wave. Surprised to see him shelf warm so badly. The face actually reminds me of a Toybiz figure.
The headsculpt is excellent on that figure, but the body is terribly dated. Especially the way the hands work.
Since others are posting about some nostalgia figures (I didn’t start collecting ML until approximately one year ago), I thought I’d share about something I recently got in the mail, which so far seems like it’ll check off the main points/wants I wanted out of it... The extra DM head popped onto this red she hulk body without any issues, and despite the legs having some odd articulation, I now feel (after some brown & black paint) I can more satisfactorily recreate the scene that tickled me so much when I saw it in theaters. She didn’t get much screen time in BP, but here’s a deleted scene with her for kicks & giggles.
for some reason CM Nick Fury warming the shelves in my area. seems peeps are waiting for a new MCU Endgame Nick Fury figure. Finally saw that video review of the Endgame 2-packs. I think I'll be forced to get the Quantum 2-pack for the sake of completing Ronin for wave 1. But for sure Hasbro will make an updated full MCU Hawkeye. Renner + Ronin figure will just be my "insurance policy" figure if Hasbro fails to make a new MCU Hawkeye. As for left overs, the female buck is a decent stand in for a Nebula figure which I tend to do because I didn't have a Nebula back then. And it's a pain in the ass to find nowadays. If someone is selling it, there's a huge markup already which I don't intend to burn too much money on it. The true leftover in this pack for me will be the male buck, antman and ironman heads.
Check your Walmarts for the Endgame! Was on my lunch break and found that they had put out an Endgame end cap display. Sadly though they didn't have Ronin or Hercules (but a ton of Caps & Ebony so they got in a good case or two) so I'm still not done. They even had half of the Cull Obsidian wave about almost a year late but they had Ant Man, Thor, Wasp, & Black Widow at least. They also had the Loki & Corvus Glaive two pack but I didn't pick them up since I have them on preorder and they wouldn't fit in my locker (barely got these guys in there). Nighthawk is my least favorite, just not a big fan especially of the cape. I love the clear plastic of Living Laser. And Cap, it took me half an hour to finally get him to hold his shield but otherwise I love it; I'm just a Cap fan in general and will take any and all Caps. The best currently is Ebony Maw, can't wait for Corvus to complete the set. And Citizen V (is it said V or 5?) is just a general run of your mill Marvel Legend. Can't comment on Thanos till I find the last two.
I really don't know what's the logic behind nighthawk's cape. if they translate that into live-action movie, it will look funny. elevated cape shoulders? wtf? Here in my area, Cull Obsidian wave got replenished. Usual suspects fly off the shelves, Thor, Widow and Black Knight. Here's the funny thing. Both Best of Marvel Legends Thanos and Cull Obsidian Wave got displayed. So Ant-Man and The Wasp will dominate the shelfwarmers again I can't still bring or fool myself to buy that unmasked bearded Cap from Thanos Wave.
The logic is - it's a comic figure. Tons of comic costumes would never translate well to live action movies - even with classic costumes as prominent as Captain America or Tiger-stripe Wolverine, they've had to either modify or completely scrap.
