I know it’s an Easter egg. But I just thought it’d be funny if that was integral to the story and explained more than the quintesson murals.

I mean, it will probably be canon to IDW Ghostbusters because all their crossovers are and have influenced the monthly book, including the TMNT crossover. And they’re drawing this in the same art style, not making it a crossover with the cartoon Real Ghostbusters (which would be cool).

In particular, IDW Ghostbusters canon (which includes the events of the two movies and the Atari game from a few years back) has had Gozer return multiple times.

Wait im confused my comic shop.just said today "Transformers is only 1 comic now its not split up like before and all Transformers will be under the "Transformers" banner. So when does this come out? Is it more on the Ghostbusters continuity side, or something?"

It sucks i should of had Gobots ep # 2 all the way up to #5 but for some reason not 1 of them has come into my subscription box.

Yes, the Transformers/Ghostbusters mini-series (which starts in June) is set in the IDW Ghostbusters continuity, and is unconnected to the new main Transformers ongoing series (which started last week).

Yeah thanks bro thats cool. I did get issue #1 (x 2 covers), the bi monthly comic subscription. But i go way back 1985 i bought Transformers Marvel #1, through Marvel #71, then all Dreamwave comics including #0, Devils Due Gijoe vrs comics plus all the IDW comics until I quit in late 2017 RIGHT before word of its end & b4 the Unicron story. I guess after 33 years collecting i needed out for a little while.. But hearing it was one comic title again, really brought me back. So here we go again

Thing im mad about is not ONE of my gobots subscription comics have arrivef & were up to #5 now. (Anybody have any they wanna sell? Or #72-80 Marvel TFs?) :)

Well, actually (oh my god, I've become THAT guy)... hang on... let me just NOT start like that...

OKAY! So, yes, the book originally started with Ghostbusters (1984), Ghostbusters 2, and Ghostbusters: The Video Game as the official canon. Over the course of the book, the IDW TMNT became part of their multiverse and Venkman nudging Mikey to head down the road of psychology has become canon in the TMNT book. After that, the Ghostbusters from the 2016 movie/Answer the Call has become canon and occurring in a parallel dimension (they've established there IS a Holtzmann in the Prime universe that's an FBI agent), then there was a crossover with their animated counterparts from The REAL Ghostbusters and ties DIRECTLY and SEEMLESSLY into one of the RGB episodes (Janine Melnitz: Ghostbuster) and RGB Egon filled in for Prime Egon after an incident caused him to... er... not be around for a while. After that? The Extreme Ghostbusters, the team from Slimer! and The REAL Ghostbusters, and a SLEW of other Ghostbusters are all canon and from alternate dimensions splintering off the Prime dimension due to the explosion at Gozer's Temple way back in 1984, sprinkling the idea of busting ghosts across the multiverse. It's all just SO DAMN awesome how they've fleshed out the canon... and I swear on my life, there is something PHYSICALLY wrong with you if you LIKE Ron Alexander from the Chicago team of the Prime universe as a human being (you know it's a good character if the reader can genuinely LOATHE the character).

    So we’re clear:

I remember Venkman’s fashion is often modeled on present day Bill Murray.

Is the book clearly set in, uhm, the 1990s?

I’m mainly just curious HOW MUCH they’re trying to line this up with Sunbow.

I’m expecting something LIKE TF/Star Trek. That one very explicitly modeled itself on Sunbow including referencing individual cartoon episodes. But then they literally branched off in 1996 when Khan took over the earth. And were a bit hazy on Fortress Maximus, Airachnid, and Windblade. But it’s essentially literally an offshoot of the cartoon.

I’m curious if this will be cartoon-like (such as maybe the TFs never left Cybertron), if it will maintain full continuity with the cartoon, or if it will pull a Star Trek/TF and have seasons 1 and 2 as a series of events that happened and then Gozer “alters the timeline” to prevent TFTM and Season 3.

Among other things, the take COULD be interesting as you might have Spike, Carly, Chip... Dr. Andrews and Gates at Quantum Labs... Astoria Carlton-Ritz, etc.

One thing that interests me is that you could conceivably (for the first time since Dreamwave) address the death of Sparkplug Witwicky. It would be kind of in the spirit of some Ghostbusters stories if he showed up as another ghost and sacrificed himself to stop Starscream.

Also, some part of me would find it funny if Walter Peck freaked out about the ghost Transformers and showed up overseeing several classic G.I.Joe members with some kind of government issue Ghostbusting gear. I could see some kind of scenario like the first Avengers movie where Peck is looking at nuking a city to stop the Ghost Transformers.

So, the GB book starts around 1993 as some time has passed since the events of the video game (basically, enough time for The Rookie to set up shop in Chicago and for Egon to invent and implement cooling covers to the proton packs for the first arc of the comic. As of the last issue, it's estimated to be roughly 1997 or 98. No dates are given, but time does pass and estimated between days/weeks/months mentioned as passing in the comic itself or from interviews with the comic staff.

As for the TFs looking like their G1 selves? That's just how the artists prefer to draw them. With the TMNT crossover, the IDW turtles have a very distinct look to them... however, when drawn while in the GB universe, they VERY much call back to their 80s cartoon look, complete with initial belt buckles which are missing from their belts in THEIR universe. It's best not to think of these Transformers being the exact same ones from the 80s cartoon, but rather different versions of them from a very similar, but alternate universe. (which has been established in the comics with the Ghostbusters themselves. While Extreme Ghostbusters was always considered a sequel series to The REAL Ghostbusters, during the Crossing Over story, the EGBs point out that they were taught by an older version of RGB Egon, EGB Egon remarks he has no recollection of ever interacting with different versions of himself. They also show off the Slimer! and The REAL Ghostbusters as being a totally different universe team even though they were supposed to be the same characters as the normal RGB team)

I'm still real iffy about this being canon to the GB comic. Hell, in 101, one of their interns who was fascinated with their dimensional window (developed during the first TMNT/GB crossover by Donatello and Egon... and has been a major plot device ever since), kept asking if they found a dimension of transforming robots. Based on the new solicits:

It sounds like an alternate G1 where the Ark fled Cybertron for Earth and Megatron decided not to follow.

Which means we can get Siege Starscream in ghost deco!!!!

I'm gonna be honest, if we're going to get that, I don't think this comic existing will have anything to do with it one way or the other.

I think it does but in reverse.

Hasbro probably presented IDW with its Ghostbusters crossover toys and asked the storyline to match the toys.

Yeah, but that doesn't prove transparent Starscream, just the molds they base them on, until Hasbro announces one it's just a design, but has Hasbro ever done a transparent repaint? As far as I know, only Takara has ever done them.

I actually bet he wouldn't be transparent as, apparently, Slimer from the Ectotron pack is not transparent but is a brightly colored semi-translucent figure similar to the Walgreens Marvel Legends Human Torch figure released in 2017. It's a little hard to photograph because he looks opaque in a brightly lit whitebox and the initial samples were crystal-translucent.

The initial Ectotron press release said this:

Items implies more than one. There is talk from a Chinese vendor of what may be an MP10 in Ghostbusters colors and the IDW covers were unredacted enough to give us a glimpse of G1 Optimus in Ecto-1/Ghostbusters colors. Meanwhile, Starscream's ghost is all over the rest of the IDW solicits, featured on three covers and in interior artwork.

Hoping for a Siege Ghost Starscream. But maybe there’s a really strong case for both.
