You have a very good point there, I loved what they did with Castlevania... and you just reminded me I haven't watched the 2nd season yet, I totally forgot about it! You're right though it's all about good storytelling.

I think that at least part of it was due to the shippers getting pissy and threatening the crew.

I did love "G.I.JOE: Resolute" but haven't seen a decent TF show since G1 (Sunbow), so I won't hold my breath.

I don't really have anything to add apart from saying that in 17 years this is probably the best post i've ever seen on TFW.

Oh no. Easton is, by far and away, the worst writer to ever touch transformers. Worse than Barber.

He wrote the Transformers Movie Deviations one shot.

     That book was pure garbage.

Don\'t believe? Read it and get back to me.

Personally, I find just G1 stale and exhausting by now, it really ddoes seem like Hasbro genuinely has forgotten everything else.

Really all they had to say was worked on Thundercats 2011 to have me on board.

Kind of odd the way Netflix likes to test the waters with a really short first season, but I'll take the chance of Netflix picking up longer seasons later over the way some networks would dump this in the worst time slot. At least maybe the show has a fighting chance at Netflix so I just need to cross my fingers this series will be my cup of tea.

Honestly I'd forgotten Siege was even being called War for Cybertron, and hadn't connected those dots. That makes it significantly less disappointing to hear about yet another G1-based entry in these oversaturated times. Though I still eagerly await the return of a Generations line that celebrates all the continuities we grew up with instead of catering exclusively to 40+ year olds who grew up with the first series while toting "for the adult collectors!" Like, shit, dude. If you were 6 when Animated came out you'll be an adult this year. Its fans are likely all "adult collectors" too by now. (Was a Beast Wars child, myself.)

I have to agree on not understanding why people would want that applied to Transformers. But having been friends with a big time Joe fan for the last decade or so, I know he was super happy about Resolute because it carried the same tone as his favorite of the Joe authors from the 1980's/1990's and had an animated Cobra Commander who was actually a potent threat on his own merits.

I optimistically expect that by "dark," they really just mean "hey, this IS the civil war story about the death of a home world and the sterilization of an intelligent species. And it's not going to have a happy ending where all the problems are solved since it's just the prelude to a later story."

You had me at the IDW Justice Division. What an absolutely perfect name, and this is coming from a fan of the run. :)

I agree with everything you're saying, it does smack of Combiner Wars-esque marketing piffle. However, when you question the notion of telling darker stories with the brand, are you saying it cannot be done, or that the creative minds Hasbro has chosen simply fail to grasp how to accomplish them?

As a Brit I am fine with six episodes in a series. That was absolutely normal and standard practice (for drama/comedy series at least) before all these Americans came in waving money everywhere, and we did OK ;)

Hmmm...that seems awful short...not much room for story/character development

That could be a good or a bad thing, his track record appears patchy.

Urrghh not this again, what happened to making good all ages stuff.

Ha ha ha ha ha ha...nope.

Not see it but watched a trailer just now and the animation looks pretty good.

Yawn. Vacuous hyperbole. On a whole I am interested to see how this turns out but not buying the hype.

When i read that I thought of this..

I dunno...a Transformers series inspired by a Bohemian Rhapsody-esque sci-fi post apocalyptic kung-fu robot unicorn spaghetti western...that might be more interesting.

    Great post, thank you!

Two very minor things that are not really important and are in no way counterarguments to your post (because I think it’s mostly very true):

    1) You probably don’t mean it this way at all, but please watch out when saying something like ‘Animated fans blame Bayformers’ - because that’s exactly the same trap you’re describing fans falling into in general. TF fandom (or fandoms in general. Or humans in general!) are very good in demonizing an opposite group, don’t think we want to add more fuel to that fire. :p

    2) about Rewind: don’t forget he’s not an ‘alt-world’ Rewind, or a clone, or an inferior version. He’s a quantum duplicate. Apart from the two or three years after the Lost Light jumped, he and Rewind 1 were the exact same
person and lived with/loved Chromedome for at least hundreds of years.

I’d agree that doesn’t make it less of a cop-out, but I’d also say that’s totally not the same as finding an alt-world version of your lover who never was yours to begin with. :)  One is not a copy of the other.

Sorry, just felt like getting that off my chest. 10/10 post, would read again. Very insightful!

More ontopic: I love the idea of a new show on Netflix. I mean, some TF shows are already on there but I hope this also means some kind of awareness push once it’s released.

At the same time I’m fearful however. Nothing that has been said about this show far is very convincing to me, and the only reference I have of this writer is the awful Transformers Deviations comic he wrote - although I’ll immediately admit that one comic is never representative of one’s entite skillset or library of achievements. Never.

The fact Polygon works on this...ok, sure, but that’s like an animation factory. They’ve done a lot of varying animation jobs so that still doesn’t say much about how the show will end up looking. For all we know the budget they’re given is so low they’re cutting corners everywhere and/or putting the C-team on it.

With the Machinima drivel fresh in my mind I’m fearing the worst...but of course hoping for the best! :)  :)  :)

Not sure what you’ve been told exactly, but as someone who had watched this show from beginning to end, with only posting the occassional post about it here on TFW (so oblivious to the outside Voltron fandom), I think this show was good. A bit of a bland ending maybe, and there are points throughout the entire show where you notice that their budget might not’ve been top tier - but overall very good.

So...not sure what problems were there (in show or behind the scenes), but I fricking hope the TF show can get to the level of this show.

But yeah, like I said, the Machinima series is fresh in my mind, so I definitely share the fear. In fact, I watched most of Love, Death & Robots this week and despite being Netflix-sponsored and pretty great in animation quality...most of it is just not good.

Tempted to post an expletive response to this load of shit but I'll not. I'm nowhere near 40 and grew up with G1 first generation transformers and am an avid fan and collector to this day. Maybe it did debut the year I was born but it was still a craze for the rest of the 80s with it continually on tele and in the shops and I got to enjoy it greatly. Even if I was born in 1980 instead and saw G1 come out when 4 year old I still wouldn't be 40+ today. :banghead: :stick:
