Okay, maybe now this whole running change thing is sounding fishy...

Is it possible the tweeter made the fix himself?

Entirely possible. Hasn't responded to any of the tweets at them from what I can see.

The thing that makes a ‘running change’ spectacularly unlikely is that we haven’t even had the whole first run on this figure released yet, now if Thundercracker and Skywarp have pins I wouldn’t be surprised, but it seems way too early for a change to Starscream.

Shouldn't it be easy to make a custom pin? A cut paper clip run through the holes then superglued into place should do the same job. Sure not going to run out and buy a whole new toy for a pin.

The change to both PotP Starscream (to fix the backpack) and Elita (to swap her feet) both came "early" enough that they were still hitting stores. And don't forget there was the Arcee running change for her hands that came even while she was relatively hard to find in stores.

If I put much effort into installing a pin, I wouldn't just return it.

On the original run, his backpack didn't lay flat due to a set of tabs on the underside of the wings hitting on the small red cylinder it rotated on.

Later versions (including Wave 1) added a slit to the red cylinder to give the tabs a place to go in both robot and jet mode so it laid flat and held better. This change was built in to Elita-1 upon her release. People had a hard time pinning down which production codes had it, but thankfully it was something you could see through the window on top of the box with a bit of light.

Elita also had an issue of her own: They put her feet on the wrong legs. This didn't really break anything, it just met she had a hard time standing flat because her feet angled the wrong way. Late in her release, there appeared to be a running change that put the feet on properly.

I am getting mine from Kapowtoys, here is hoping they are getting one of the newer releases. Has been a while since such a fix was made, the ones I recall were Generations Blitzwing\'s shoulders being sort-of fixed on Doubledealer, CW Motormaster legs, and the Hot Spot/Onslaught mold getting slots to peg into the hips in gestalt mode.

Is there a running change on Skytread? Something to make the tank section a little more stable?

Studio series Bumblebee (old camaro) had a running change which pinned the windshield. That was fairly recent

You also have to drill through plastic that you could easily screw up. The holes aren't there on the grey part.

It's very easy to do. The nubs on the gray pieces are what need drilled, so the guide is already there. Took me all of five minutes at my desk at work.

I like his chest piece popping off. Makes his alt mode look so much better!
