I saw him at Target today, paint looks great compared to the TLK version, just not worth another $20.
Never had the original release, but he's impressive, especially for a movie figure. He's got minimal reliance on a large number of panels, an actual intuitive transformation, and doesn't get in his own way because of his kibble. Glad they gave this one a second shot. And the color scheme's gorgeous.
Still not sure if I want this, but the pics are edging me closer to wanting it. I still wish I had been able to get one when he was showing up at Ross stores for like $7, but I don't have any Ross stores anywhere near me unfortunately. If he had actually done the headmaster thing in the movie I would want this a lot more. Instead it just ended up on the cutting room floor like 60% of the ideas from that movie. If I had ever gotten the original I would have kept the titan master from that release and used it with this since he actually had some paint on the robot mode.
So when I picked this up, I thought there was a problem with my copy because the panel lines around the door areas in alt mode being so pronounced. So I pulled out the original, and I realized the lines are the same - they're just much more noticeable with all the shiny paint. I prefer this deco to the original in robot mode, but I could see preferring the original depending on one's aesthetic. One other thing to note is the shoulder and hip ball joints are noticeably looser than the original. And my future is in storage. And so is my floor polish ha ha hee hee.
I saw some posts about his headmaster not folding up perfectly and posters suspecting it was a pin driving issue. I got mine in hand and suspected it's a misassembly at the factory. Tested the fix by bending the knees both ways seeing that they have a bigger range of motion the opposite way. Then I flipped thighs around as the back of them looked more curvy and should actually be the front. Now the headmaster folds up way better!!! Minor fix you can live without but a really easy fix if you have a hammer and pin driver or a thin nail. Minor/Repaint: - Studio Series Cogman head missasembly fix
The car mode paint is pretty stellar. I'm going to say that I havent seen a better looking silver car since Movie best HA soundwave. But DAMN...this one is sooo loose...I'm gunna say this one is like holding woody from toy story. I just cant believe how bad mine is...if I were a kid that didnt have future (lmao. < that's effin hilarious) I would HATE that figure for just flopping over and not even being able to stand I'm not going to say the bot mode looks better yet..I need to get home and compare. I did a wash on the original in the spots it was missed and I remember it was pretty amazing looking.
Really fun figure. Great articulation and an intuitive transformation. Happy to finally get a chance to own this mold in what is in my opinion an even better deco
Cant wait to get him and use my poor Sean Connery voice on my other toys. It will annoy Shoundwave & Shtarscream. Optimush wont care.
Wasn't going to get Cogman, but I found him today at Walmart along with Shatter, but I skipped Shatter since she didn't look all that good to me in person, though on the other hand Cogman was quite the opposite, thus why I got him. Anyways, Cogman is pretty cool. Mine came out of the box with really loose legs and shoulders, but some clear nail polish fixed them up and now he's perfect.
"While speeding through the streets of London, COGMAN remembers to tell sir Edmund Burton that Agnes called for a snuggle." Bwa ha ha lololololol!
Very mixed feelings on this. Good: The paint is absolutely gorgeous, and I love the licensed alt mode. Bad: Banal transformation. It's just incredibly uninteresting and has no clever twists or fun moments. Car roof and bonnet fold in on themselves into a backpack, and straight out arms and legs. That's basically it.
Just picked this guy up today... The robot mode could use more paint... like there's no paint on this guy at all... There's a ball joint at the head, ball joint shoulders that act more like swivels, hinge hips, hinge knees... not much to talk about in this mode so now I'll transform him into alt mode... Transformation is really easy... all you have to do is fold him in half and then shove him into the Titan Master socket on the body. That was a bad joke... So lets talk about the robot mode for real this time. There actually is some very good paint detail. Missing the effect that the original release had that made him look old and worn. This version looks like a younger Cogman compared to the other one. Ball joint at the head because it's still the same joint as the other head, shrugging shoulders which is probably more for transformeration but hey it's a thing that moves, ball joints at the shoulders, a hinge on the shoulder armor so there is a lot of movement you can get out of these three joints. Bicep rotation, elbows... I'll come back to that... Ball joint hips, thigh rotation, really tight knees, and a little bit of front to back ankle tilt. You can tilt it more but doing that breaks transformation. I originally thought there was no ankle tilt at all but you just gotta hold his legs together while you do that otherwise the back of his leg will come apart as you tilt his foot up. So the part I skipped over... WRISTS... He does have them... sort of... there's no rotation but they can bend thanks to how he transforms and this allows him to hold the sword more naturally. However there's a panel that folds under the arm which blocks this joint and also stops the short from going in all the way. So you kind of have to break transformation to make him hold the sword properly. It's up to you if you want him to have a more solid looking arm or actually be able to hold his weapon properly but he can not do both at the same time. It doesn't look like there's any official way to store the sword in robot mode but you could just wedge it in his back pack kibble. The transformation is pretty easy... the hardest part is getting the roof to clip into place with the Titan Master inside. There doesn't seem to be a lot of clearance also he doesn't really tab in securely. There is a peg for the feet but it doesn't seem to want to peg in on my copy. I did miss a step though... His crotch folds down between his legs... (That should win an award for most inappropriate sounding sentence that's not actually dirty...) which gives more clearance under the vehicle mode and lets the sword store there... (which also sounds dirty...) I think this looks much better than the original toy did. The original was more of a dull grey with a black top while this one is a nice silver. I'm kinda glad I missed out on the original Last Knight release of this figure as the Studio Series version looks much nicer. I also like that there is a searing wheel on the right side, not the left, because this is a British car. Just for the heck of it... I swapped his head with Broadside... and that's how I'm going to display them on my desk now... I switched their weapons too... The sword looks more like a knife in Broadside's hand but oddly the weapons work better swapped than with the toys they came with. Plus it's just funny that Cogman is sort of an unofficial Titan Master since he's not part of that toy line but since he shares the same engineering he's still fully compatible with any Titan Master figure.
Finally got mine, just makes me feel more annoyed that we did not see this in the movie (or any other media?). Because of that, I am not very interested in robot mode. I do like the alt mode, very nice colouring although noticed a few dots on my roof, which are not pleasant. Also not liking how they do not have the car emblems as was the case with Lockdown/Shadow Raider (smaller normal toy cars have it, is it really that difficult?). Does headmaster Cogman fit into any other Studio Series cars? I am thinking Sideswipe as it is one of the few with an interior. Cheers
