Just read the article in the original Japanese. Sounds to me like he means that they're working on a full-scale Transformers film like TLK (not necessarily a sequel. He seems to be talking more about scale. Doesn't directly say a 'sequel' to TLK) and another Bumblebee-scaled film (they're weighing the possibility of it being a Bumblebee and Optimus duo film).

Like I've said before... Should it have been indeed a true and proper reboot, would it require an explanation, or would it be clear as daylight by itself to absolutely everyone?

I think that Lorenzo has tried to explain in the past, that, he doesn't care about continuities, lore or whatever. That's what I think he meant when he said that he doesn't understand what reboot means. He doesn't care to understand. He just makes a somewhat limited type of movies (check his resume beyond Transformers as well) and presents them in whatever way he thinks is going to make a buck at the time, without thinking much ahead and "let the nerds bicker about continuities, lore and all that kind of crap". He genuinely doesn't care beyond selling people tickets.

Transformers fiction needs a creative mind in charge, not a car salesman.

As people have said, this can be interpreted both ways. As far as what Hasbro/Paramount think about this, I've been hearing from my sources that, for one, there are no plans for Lorenzo to go anywhere soon, and two, you should really keep a close eye on the PR spin for this. If they backtrack, that's indicative of one thing, and if they don't clarify or backtrack on the statement, that's another…

In the mean time, I will reach out to see if they are willing to say something public about this (I very much doubt it though).

Edit: I've contacted them and will update if I hear back.

That sounds more likely. I don't think the twins would look great next to G1 Optimus.

I honestly don't care about the continuity anymore, just give me Transformers that don't look like insects and D&D creatures and I'd be fine with that.

im japanese and i read it the main quote is ひとつは『トランスフォーマー/最後の騎士王』に続く本家シリーズの最新作
this is the quote and no, it word for word says a new installment in the main series that continues tlk. it’s prettty black and white
words like 続く、本家、最新作 pretty much says tlk sequel but obviously things could have been lost in translation or the japanese writer out his assumption into the texts. we will not know if this guy directly said one or the other unless we see the interview transcript in english

Bay EXPLICITLY said that TLK was going to be his last TF film PERIOD. He said NO new Bayformers ever.

I'll take your word for it, then! I'm reading it a little softer, but I'm not a native speaker so I'm sure you're correct :)

Just saw the quote from Lorenzo. Im excited! I want a solid send off to the bayverse. The last knight as it stands is not a conclusion. It could have worked without the unicron tease but they left it in there . Im glad it seems like they arent just dropping it like it seemed like they were doing. Wonder if Bay will come back for one more.

Lorenzo also said we'd see the back story of Prime and Megatron in TLK. We were told we were going to see the Quints. See how true all that turned out.

My thoughts on the whole thing are torn. On one hard, I am a tiny bit excited. I actually enjoyed TLK (arguably most of the Bay series), and wouldn't mind seeing that universe, storyline, and cast one more time, especially if it's a proper farewell. I think finishing the trilogy (which was the plan all along) and wrapping up loose ends would be good. Heck, I suppose I wouldn't mind seeing more movies in that series, if they can do them well, and maybe lean into the Bumblebee aesthetic more.

On the other hand, I was getting excited for a reboot series. I suppose this means the idea of getting classic versions of Jazz, Ironhide, Ratchet, etc. is out the window since they're dead in this universe. I was kind of looking forward to a fresh new start. Until a few weeks ago I was assuming Bumblebee was a prequel, so it's not a huge disappointment, but does feel kind of like we struck gold and then lost it.

My main concern is that they're not thinking this through. I'd be satisfied either way if I could see level-headed decision making, but all I see is a back-and-forth game. For all we know, they could be saying it's a reboot again next week. It's impossible to trust people that constantly change their story. I'm not sure if it's genuine uncertainty on their part, or something more nefarious. Nether option really fills me with confidence.

I want to root for these movies, believe me. I want to root for them more than any other movie series (aside from maybe Star Wars). But it's hard to root for them if they're going to make a mess out of it. I was feeling really confident about this series moving forward after Bumblebee, but now I'm starting to feel skeptical again.

If Bumblebee is a reboot, why continuing the abomination called TLK?

On other note, if someone else than Bay direct the TLK sequel, it's gonna be great.

Lorenzo seems to have a tendency to guess at what's upcoming, instead of knowing for certain.

A sequel to TLK would be both a HUGE step backwards, as well as another box office bomb.
We've moved beyond Bayverse. Someone should probably inform him of that :lol

Hopefully Unicron eats the Bayverse, ending it for good.
