Just speculating, but I suspect between that and low sales of Despotron due to the MP-36 leak that Maketoys got into a bad situation financially. I think they're struggling to get new stuff out (I think only two new molds in all of 2018) because they're having trouble putting up money for the production costs.

 

TFCon reveals and, more importantly painted prototypes evidencing progress in actual production, will be the next clue whether we'll see MT finish the first wave of Autobot headmasters in 2019.

Tell me about it. I'm still waiting on the rest of their Headmasters/Targetmasters/Horrorcons including Recticle.

It's like Maketoys' operations have come to a grinding halt.

 

It's hard to make things and have only 500 people buying. What's the point?

It's really this. I think they wanted to go with Grandmein MTRM-14 after the first wave of Seekers but decided to speed up the Coneheads instead. They did the crowdfund on Sunstorm. It seems to me they need to get as much money out of those molds as possible. They did not bother to change the plastic or paint mismatched parts on Skycrow and Lightning different from Meteor. I don't think the Seekers sold as well as they had hoped and they knew their long delay would lead to that because of all of the KOs and reissues of the TT versions. I truly believe with the amount of sunk cost so far on Grandmein that we will see both Grandmein and Wiseblast but I think any mention of Reticle or Silverback ever happening are fantasy at this point. I am hoping to buy 5 figures with 3 sets of wing fillers from them this year and then being done with the company.

I think the previous CHUG combiner and citybot wave hurt them and then the Despotron and Seeker debacle was the final straw after the competition on most of their other figures.

both headmasters and the target master are still available on the maketoys site too which is where i bought my pointblank the other day as it was cheaper to buy from them direct ( other than second hand on ebay) so they are not selling that well

Aside from their convention exclusives, not sure what else we'll see next week. Haven't really kept up with MT as much these days. The headmasters are the one thing on their current public roadmap that's even mildly of interest, though I wish they'd do the G1 toy repaint of Reflector, too. That's unfortunately not one of the ones happening next week. =\

Right now I'm hesitant to pick up their existing headmasters until I see full-color evidence they're going to do the other two from the first wave.

 

Well, their online store site is still flush with the other HM and TM. I'm hoping they are gearing up to produce something new. The engineering of the coneheads is pretty good, and Cupola, Ironwill, and Contact Shot was very impressive. They just need to keep going.

 

This better come out this year.

 

Hopefully we'll see more Headmasters and Targetmasters from them this year. It is indisputable fact that people like to buy them.
I wasn't too blown away by their seekers released thus far. HM and TM is where I feel MT shines.

 

I think they sold out of their HM and TM initially and then you have the 5 people who missed out begging to reissue reissue reissue!!!

 

I'd love to complete my headmasters team but I'm starting to fear that by the time this figure will be released (if ever) it might end up feeling dated.

 

You know how when you were a kid your TF toys looked way more awesome to you than they do now as an adult (well they did to me anyway, probably because kids have a more powerful imagination/lower expectations), and that to capture that excitement now as an adult they need to upscale the complexity but keep that original vibe? I got to say, for me, the MT headmasters are a perfect example of getting that right. Their apeface looks ****ing awesome. Their designs s**t all over the plain designs FT puts out for its headmasters. It's like comparing Lego with Duplo. Will be very disappointed if they don't make it to the Horrorcons.
