Takara's waves are pretty paltry. Last month it was Jetfire and Brunt. This month it's Reflector and a weaponizer.

Eh. I think Siege is fantastic. The prices are steep but the quality is awesome.

I don't know about that. The battlemasters don't seem to take up that much more plastic than the TR accessories...and they could have skipped the headmaster feature and put the costs there towards the targetmaster buddy instead.

And the fact is, we're still paying $25-30...they just split up the cost across two packages. (If I knew then what I know now, maybe I would have just sprung for the Takara releases.)

Similarly, I feel like everyone who bought a Titan is getting a little played because they are now spending an extra $20 to get figures that "complete" the Titan set. (And Metroplex is going to end up costing an extra $40 if they release a Slammer deluxe.)

I guess the 3rd Party upgrade market taught Hasbro that we're willing to play that game.

I'm in for 3 Reflectors. :)  If they ever do a 3 pack set of them down the road as an exclusive repaint, I'll get that too. :D

except then that would have required reengineering the base mold to not fit with that lines gimmick theme, also keeping in mind hasbro got a 4th use out of that mold with metalhawk. also the battlemasters definitely use more plastic than the tr accessories, more engineering at a minimum with a higher parts count, and youre also ignoring that people complained with the prime wars trilogy exclusives cost more becuase of the included primemasters. the fact is people were willing to pay $30-$40 for the takara targetmasters because of some perceived superior quality over hasbro, but still have issues paying over $10 for the same deluxe figure from hasbro

I would have paid $50 for a Leader-class box 3-pack. (Or $30 for a Voyager-class box 3-pack, as it really should have been.)

    I guess.

My real issue is just that this line has gone to great lengths to make figures that are spot-on (in robot mode), and then there's Caliburst...who pretty much looks nothing like his G1 Nebulon namesake.

I know all about both those releases as I A. collected around that time and B. Got both at retail.
But the point was that such sets sold for less than the combined price of what the molds sold for individually. The Sams Club sets were the extreme because the retail price of Prowl vs Starscream was slated as $19.99 when both the Starscream and Red Alert molds each sold for that price individually. Ditto for the Optimus and Overload set which I think was priced for less than Optimus sold for individually. I forget what the price was for Vector vs Starscream but I'm fairly certain it was less than buying two Voyagers (which were still $19.99 each).

I wonder if some fans will display siege reflector in with their masterpieces. Despite the overdone greeble, it is pretty g1 inspired, and height wise they not too far off.

    Sorry, Lionizer. Maybe you'll get a garish citrus-colored re-release.

That's fine if it's your preference. I'd have preferred him to look more like the original toy or Headmasters cartoon, which looks a lot more like a blue Firedrive with a single barrel than it looks like black and purple Blowpipe.

You said he looks nothing like the g1 nebulon, he looks like the animated version of the nebulon. The headmasters version wouldn’t be said nebulon :p

Wow, your post completely spun me around. I went front thinking this was a lazy questionable and random repaint to "oh, they were matching the cartoon". Thank you. It was the Rebirth Caliburst.

Its not like a squarish robot that turns into a gun can be much of a " unique" thing to begin with...

To me something about this mold idk kinda looks like a small astrotrain (at least like this with no color) idk maybe they(HasTak) will take this design at some point and make it a leader or large voyager triple changer
