I get what you mean; I'm certainly very leery of crowdfunds these days. But I'm not sure your idea would fly, because there's a difference between a deposit and a crowdfund. The fact that unless a certain threshhold of orders are made the toy won't be made is a vital part of this. If they opened a toy for deposits without mentioning that fact, it would be immensely dodgy advertising. Conversely, if they said 'It's not a crowdfund, it's a 25% deposit that will also determine whether the toy will be made', well, that's just like saying 'this isn't a car, it's a four wheeled, petrol-powered, road legal conveyance'.

I think people are, justifiably, leery of pre-ordering any third party figure especially based solely on a 3D render. However, I also believe that if this figure comes out to MMC's typical high standard then there is no way it won't sell.

It's basically a chicken and egg problem.

MMC wants to be reasonably sure that a certain number of people are committed to buying. They've judged that a $50 non-refundable investment per order is enough of a guarantee.

This means that people who don't want to commit $50 now, but would definitely end up buying Supermax in the end, don't get "counted." But MMC can't be sure how many of those people there really are. Without any sort of commitment, it's easy to say for someone to say now that they'd buy it next year, and then end up deciding not to for whatever reason.

1600+currently active users. Only 339 of them (excluding myself) have put down the $50... get buying people! Get on it!

Edit: 458 users and 1100 guests. So I guess we are on track? Blah! Buy buy buy!

........ This event is different than comic con with skimpy dressed cosplayers or automotive shows with half dressed girls? No, not at all. Having said that, I agree they aren't needed, because Supermax himself can do a better job arousing people haha.

Can we discuss the funding strategies for this product and not side topics like "Convention/Trade-show Bresticle Politics"?
    Please and thank you.

We can discuss whatever the hell we want if it pertains to the figure or how the figure may be presented. I'm sure a big man like yourself can handle, literally, 3-4 comments that are not specific talking about the physical figure itself. If you don't like it ignore me.

    Here's an idea:

A number of people want to buy Supermaxes.
They get together, and 1 person places the order with quantities for all.
If that quantity meets a certain minimum amount, the deposit requirement is reduced for each one. And the eventual shipping rate is reduced because the whole order can be bulk shipped to one place.

That minimum order amount would need to be determined by PSX/MMC.

(It would have to be arranged separately for the person ordering to distribute to everyone else.)

There are obvious drawbacks, like the fact the person ordering is assuming more financial risk. But it's an idea.

It would seem that more people are not buying the figure. Which is why the number isn't increasing.

Nah, about a day plus. On Sunday we got number 440 and after that it hasn't increased, but yeah, it's pretty bad.

I suspect the MAAS Toys and MM stuff possibly scared people away. MMC is a much more reputable compancy and has a very long history of producing products, so in theory it should be in a better position. I plan to do another Social Media Spree on Wednseday. I'm in some new groups so possibly that might get others.

I think Mmc is the one person collecting all of the orders, hehe.

I think that it was foolish of them to ask for 800 ordered so that this project can move forward. This is a daunting number when you consider the very niche aspect of the character. I think that 400-500 is more realistic. To me their approach is that this thing is either going to be a grand slam or a strike out...and thems is some shitty odds.

MMC originally passed on the figure and only put up this crowdfund because of a major fan push to get it made. Both the crowdfunding and their extension of it is to give the community a chance to get it made. Even with 800 preorders they still have to cover difference to make the 3000 minimum the factory requires. The point I am trying to make is its up to us to get it made. Lobbing criticisms at them is not really productive cause their initial stance was they were not going to make it. I think they want to make it, but I also feel they will also breath a sigh of relief if it does not get made. They won't be risking loosing money.

He also confuses condescension with sarcasm when using blue text.

Up to 440! Or ...down to 360!

The MAAS Toys thing is really messed up. I hope this gets funded. MMC came through before with their Artfire
