For me, Animated takes the cake for best writing, followed by Beast Wars, Followed by Victory.

I'm keeping note of Cyberverse, waiting till it's done.

Haven't seen Beast Machines yet. Heard it is well written.

Still Waiting for BW: Neo dub

Shout out to G1 and Masterforce to be really damn entertaining.

Animated was amazing, but Masterforce is my favorite.

    2. Prime

I'd like to put Cyberverse on 3, simply because I have high hopes for it, but it has only had 9 half-hours so far so it's too early to tell.
Weird. I love Animated, but I could never get into Beast Wars / Machines because of the ugly animation. The dated CGI makes my eyes bleed. It almost feels like they made it ugly on purpose. Other 90s CGI looks less ugly.

You're probably thinking, "You don't know what you're missing!", but Animated fans think the same about you.

Sure, Animated's humans look a bit ugly, and so does Ratchet (but he's old, give him a rest!), but I personally like the other character designs.

Animated and Beast Wars hands down, with BM close behind.

I'm an Animated and Beast Wars fan, and you honestly don't know what you're missing.

Beast Wars and Beast Machines, especially Beast Machines that had some tight dialogue.

Without a doubt Prime for me, but Beast Wars would follow.

This is going to sound crazy, but hear me out...of the cartoons I've seen, RID2015 probably has the best writing. No, seriously. Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying it's anything genius or even above-average, but it pretty much succeeds in doing what it set out to do. Thinking back to it, I don't really recall anything "wrong" with it, other than being a little uninspired in places. It's the pure definition of "serviceable". That's not necessarily a flattering remark, but I'd argue it's a step above the other shows.

While I really enjoy G1's style of writing (I vastly prefer G1 as a whole package), I must admit that it did kind of lack continuity with itself, and go off the deep end at times (Sea Change). Prime was decent towards the beginning, but even the creators of that show acknowledge it was a mess at the end. Definitely not a contender for best in my book. That leaves Cyberverse, which I'd argue suffered from being too rushed, and lacked an interesting premise to support the show. We don't even really need to talk about Combiner Wars' writing. Despite all of these shows having good moments, I think their writing is all more flawed that RID's writing.

I have no doubts that Beast Wars and Animated have better writing. I'm only talking about the shows I've seen in their entirety. I'll pop in once I've finished Animated, and let you know if anything's changed. (Beast Wars too, but that's probably a ways down the road for me).

Prime - Good side plots, interesting concepts, some good character development, great voice acting, dark and comedic moments that made me watch it once a year as on its birthday. This year is its 9th anniversary, making 2020 its tenth anniversary. I’m really looking forward to it.
Beast Wars/Beast Machines - When it comes to writing and amazing characters with plot development and mystery, nothing beats these two.
Cybertron - This was my first most watched show. Watched it all the way through. I laughed, I cried, I felt adrenaline, I even enjoyed the Speed Planet races! The pop culture references were fun and easy to understand, the adlibing on top of stock footage were the best moments ever. But nothing made me feel more than Vector Prime’s death since Armada Starscream’s and Beast Wars’ Dinobot’s deaths. Just superb and fun!

Like most, Prime and Beast era, however anime was great with the exception of the art work. I still have a hard time watching because of the design style.

Anybody that ranked Prime high probably doesn't know much about writing.

It's good to know they're that good! I'm looking forward to watching them in the near future!

I don't have a problem with anyone liking Prime, but I am surprised a fair amount of people consider it well-written. Especially since the drama in the storytelling department is pretty well-documented at this point. Prime has it's strengths, but storytelling isn't really one of them.

    @TheSoundwave

Yeah at the end of the day RID15 is better written in it's totality than Prime. Prime starts strong and gets messy, RID starts mediocre and quickly becomes strong.

You should watch Beast Wars (and Beast
Machines, don't let anyone tell you it's full of errors or not necessary. It takes the story in a different direction than many would have but I think it's really strong) first.

Animated draws very heavy on beast wars and it's got some shared talent. All the winks and nudges to BW will go over your head if you watch it first.

Plus Beast Wars/Machines litetally establishes the Transformer physiology and Spark stuff that every series including Animated have used as the standard since then. It's story is connected to the original G1 story. It's toyline was the debut of the balljoint design revolution.

It's just too important to the whole hobby not to prioritise, imo

I certainly agree. I think RID2005 perfectly accomplished what it set out to do. It was pretty smooth sailing all the way. It was never supposed to be a genius thing, it was just a fun show for kids. No one can say it was a failure, even if they didn't like the direction. Transformers Prime aimed higher than RID did, but in the end it crashed hard, and arguably paved the way for the death of the Aligned project.

Overall, I think RID was much more creative and out-there in terms of storytelling. Yes, there was a lot of filler and 'villain of the week' plots, but in my opinion nothing in Prime can compare to ideas like Optimus training under Micronus in the spirit realm, or the ending on Cybertron. Heck, the storylines even took advantage of the creative villains. It's been a few years since I've watched either show, and RID has definitely left a bigger impact on me.

I'm glad you mentioned to watch Beast Wars before Animated, originally I was going to do the other way around. I'l definitely check it out when I finish G1.

Literally the entire run of Prime was just retreading "more of the same" ground as before. Nothing new really happened at all - it was just rehashed ideas from earlier in the series as opposed to building on and expanding what had already been established.
