Sort of. He was initially hard to come by due to his exclusivity with Chevy dealerships. But eventually the figure was dumped en-masse on eBay from Chinese suppliers, and he was plentiful and fairly inexpensive.
Adam Goldberg is a huge fan. He lived the dream of many 1980s collectors. (He didn't have all of the toys, but he had most of them.) Series creator's response to my article about "Adam Goldberg's Bedroom." | Dinosaur Dracula! The Toys in Adam Goldberg's Bedroom! | Dinosaur Dracula! Optimus Prime crumbled into dust in TFTM! My vague memories from when I was a kid can't be wrong!/s It's weird that they're promoting it this early (on TV no less), but since Adam Goldberg is a big TF fan,I can't be too surprised. (Still feels weird, though.) Now they'll be on the show and people will insist that IDW "unearthed some long-forgotten characters from the '80s" who "never got toys until this decade".
I like that they keep it muddled. It's always just "1980-something", and kind of allegory for how Adam like most people would remember their childhood in moments and not really in perfect chronological order. (Plus plotting out such a timeline while finding new 80's stuff to reference for a show already running for 6 seasons would be a nightmare for the writers at this point.)
Absolutely phenomenal response from the real life Adam Goldberg. It pretty much confirms my earlier post in this thread about him using the shows budget to buy 1980's toys and then keeping them for himself afterwords. As a sidenote, I'll also say that I loved your writeup in your blog about McDonald's Changeables that I read a while back. Didn't know that you were a member here at TFW2005
That's not me,sorry. That's just a blog I quoted. I like his website too and have been following him since he ran X-Entertainment. His articles are always hilarious and insightful.
I had Mp-01 on my desk at an old job, almost everyone that commented on it out of the blue began with "I had that exact one when I was a kid!" and would argue if I hinted at anything otherwise
Losers with MP-01 in the 80's. I had MP-04. What would be funny is if you had a MP-01 and a G1 Reissue OP next to each other. On another note. why did they shrink all the reissues? G1 Devastator was soooo much bigger than the reissue. . .=p
You can see the original Ecto-1 toy in the background! Watching this show over the years, it's clear that Adam F. Goldberg is a big fan of both Transformers and Ghostbusters (among other things), so I'm sure he was super thrilled by this Ectotron toy. I think it's pretty cool he was able to feature it on his show.
Aaaaand it’s mistransformed. Lol. Shoulder pads are turned 90 degrees different than all promo shots seen so far.
I love this show, but the plug for Ectotron was so shameless and cringey, it reminded me of the product placement bit in Wayne's World 2 only it wasn't a joke in The Goldbergs.
I watched the episode this morning and man,.....do they ever put the figure in the first 10min of the episode quickly. Still pretty awesome to see the figure and then catch what is in the background like the thundercat layer. I really want that MOTU poster right behind Adam so freaking bad. I've searched the net for that poster to buy it and nahda nothing zilch.
