So if Jazz, was to be revealed then to complete the car robots line up we only be waiting on Mirage, Trailbreaker/Hoist and Skids. Damn that would be a big turnaround after the disappointment of 2018   Come on Takara you know want to release Jazz.

 

So if the rumours of a large Decepticon "+" repaint relate to Soundwave, I wonder how much they'll change on him to make him more toon accurate.

Although I'm more of a believer in a v2 Soundwave than I used to be, his motivation isn't as high as Bumblebee. Making a chibi Bumblebee opens the way for more chibi minibots. But what else could they change about Soundwave that will revolutionise him? He doesn't need extra faces. He could do with a little bit more articulation, but it's not much worse than Shockwave's. The only thing that is really inaccurate to the character model is his feet area. Yes, he's probably increased in popularity due to his appearance in the Bumblebee movie, in a very G1 form, but that might not be enough.


So what could they do with an MP-13+, if that's all we're gonna get?

I think a new, bigger head is out of the question, simply because his backpack isn't that big to hold it. But they could maybe make it a little more toon accurate (it's already pretty good, though).

I'm not crazy about it, I think entirely new feet would look better.

I hope they'd make that change to the mould, if they go +, as that makes a big visual difference.

 

All the toy based tech details in the shoulders and the back would be eliminated, and smoothed out, assuming. I'm guessing that the ridges on what would be the traps of robot mode/top of tape deck mode would be removed, chest door might be remodeled to have a thicker boarder and tinted blue; and the parts that run along the outside of his legs might even be remolded to be solid pieces, instead of detailed, if not somehow completely eliminated, because they weren't present on the cartoon model at all.

Hypothetically, should a + edition Soundwave come, I would assume Soundblaster would follow at some point.

 

I used to think Soundwave would get a new 2.0 mold, but the new rumors are making me think about a V1.5 or "new style" + release instead. My opinion aside, a lot of people seem to think MP13 was the best mold from the last generation so I could see them looking at how to cheaply refine the mold. In terms of a changes, it could be on the same scale as MP11 & the cone heads with major mechanisms being redone or something smaller in scope like a few new molded pieces that came with MP29+ and MP18+. If they don't do a 2.0, I'd like an update to include a ball jointed neck, somehow move the side leg kibble to the back & maybe cheaply implement a fake part by having the Play button flip around in bot mode. Seeing that Play label on Soundwave is my big backpack eyesore.

But I hope they redo the tapes as 2.0s so they're thicker. THat'd give them more room for improving the size,sculpt & articulation of those guys. They could keep Soundwave's chest cavity the same but have it store 2 tapes instead of 3.

This might require too much retooling but I'd like to see a newer style waist skirt mechanism that hides the hip joints. It's not a big deal, but for some reason the older single piece pelvises with open space around the thigh are just standing out to me more and more.

 

It was just something I heard after the MP Blackarachnia reveal during Wonderfest.

 

@Sam , you're making me wish that dedicated MP Soundwave 2.0 thread wasn't taken down! We covered all the bases pretty well there! I'd much prefer a 2.0 to a +, but if a + is what we're getting it'll be interesting to see how far they'll remold and retool after Shockwave+ and especially Bluestreak+.

Speaking of re-dos, I'm honestly even more excited about the thought of a new Starscream than Jazz!

Just so I’m clear I have no insider knowledge here at all. I’m just speculating. I have nothing more than that. I have exactly one correct post about Blackarachnia and that was just a friend in the know telling me a few nights before hand. It’s even possible I didn’t make the news post until after Blackarachnia was shown. Also my Tigatron rumor turned out to be wrong so far.

I just want to be clear with people. I’m not a source. Im actually not comfortable with the recent tigatron thing being wrong either. The info I was given was wrong. It may still come true but so far it was wrong. I remember 2003Megatron getting shit on constantly because his predictions were wrong more than not, and he became a pariah around these boards. TCracker, even though he’s right a lot, also has his share of haters, even though I love the guy. Very sweet and humble man.

So all that said I just think those minibots I mentioned are the logical choices. The new Diecast Jazz is 100% a sign that Porsche is onboard. Jazz is totally coming. And along with him Cliffjumper will come too. Also I think 13+ with some retooling similar to 18+ makes sense. And I think a new seeker mold is logical as well.

If any of this comes true then I’m totally a source    

So far the only new real source is @Phamduc because he had MP-20+ early. So like you guys I’m going to be following that dude hahah

 

I guess they could really get quite extensive! Good call on the thicker border for the tape door, that could give the illusion that it's a bit smaller alright. I guess Soundblaster would be a logical choice, and I'd definitely take a + deco of Ratbat (I think his real-world tape details ruin the cartoon look).

Cassettes that are 1.5 times as thick is a great idea!

It's true they could get quite extensive, a version 1.5 indeed. I guess when it came to Bumblebee they could make quite a lot of improvements to his proportions, while also doing something completely different with the alt-mode, but that isn't the case with Soundwave. I also would've preferred fake buttons in robot mode for sure.

I guess I always liked the way they incorporated the detail at the top of Soundwave's thighs by making it the actual joint, but there's really no reason to do that. They could probably could do it a lot better now, the bend happening beneath his pelvis does look a little awkward.

At this point a new Starscream is my most-wanted MP. I've been without a Starscream in my collection since summer 2016. Too long!

Anyway, for all that talk:

I guess it's a good idea to preface posts that are rumours with that, and the rest of the time we'll just assume you're guessing (it's our own fault for assuming!). Huffer, Cliffjumper and Windcharger all in one year did seem like crazy talk, to be fair  


So V2 Soundwave is still on the table then

As for Jada Toys die cast Jazz I really do hope that this is one that works out. I would finally put one of the most elusive characters behind us. Come on Takara, strike while the iron is hot!

 

Originally I was thinking a couple characters could simply be repainted, but with the precedent that Bluestreak and shockwave plus set of minor retooling, I could see pretty much everyone before shockwave getting a remold at least, if not a 2.0 or 3.0.

Tracks definitely needs a new mold. The Van Bros could easily be modded so the hip panels fill in the torso, similar to that upgrade set, with new toon accurate autobot logos, and minor paint tweaks. I could see a Hot Rod V3 coming at some point. Magnus will definitely get a new mold. Smokescreen is fine for the most part, but they MIGHT reengineer the roof to make his infamous butt-flap. Of course they’ll make a new seeker to capitalize on their new stand tech. Soundwave and company will likely receive a retool at the very least. And we will of course likely see a Rodimus V2.

Bah. Still waiting on galvatron. Would be nice to have a new deception mold of a character not yet done.

 

Phoenix is huge...too big if you ask me. Is there room enough in his alt mode, were it hollowed out, for MP-45 to fit inside it? I have him, in alt mode at the moment even...but it's at home and I am not. Based off memory, I don't think it's doable. I would guess you'd somewhere around 2.5 to 3 inches in compartment height to accommodate it. If Phoenix even has that mass available at all, I don't think it would be accessible from a front entrance...and if you're going to store Bumblebee in Skyfires ass, I guess I'd just as soon pass on the gimmick. I think they could totally pull it off using mini alt mode accessories...but fit an entire figure inside?

Just did some for shits and googles...these are with WST figures. No way a regular sized figure could fit inside him, which I can't imagine TT making one even bigger. But again, accessories about the size of WSTs...that could work and still be neat.

 

I know +Streak has upped things a bit with the remolded head/extra faces and effects, but I really think a +Soundwave would be a pretty simple swap of silver for white, ditching chrome, and tweaking other colors. Pink energon cubes too?

I think the bigger opportunity would be with the cassettes. Soundwave was, stupidly, packaged in 'bot mode, taking up a lot of real estate in a large box he never needed. Package him in alt mode, and even in smaller box, you have plenty of room still for all his other stuff and more cassettes. You could lump in one or more of these options:

- Laserbeak, Ravage, and Red Frumble, ditching chrome and swapping out black for dark gray so they all get the + treatment
- Buzzsaw and Blue Frumble in toy colors (maybe a little weird, but +Prowl came with his launchers)
- More enticing would be the opportunity at completing the cassettes; crank out Overkill and Slugfest here as an extra draw to this, or even split the two up, if we do get a +Soundblaster too
- Something even more random, like Cassette Drone

I hope we get a +Soundblaster too. I'd be annoyed to get one toonified and not the other.

 

Weren't they going for a standard box height for larger MPs at that time (if not still)? I can't recall for sure, but I think all my MP boxes were the same height for bigger release for a good while there. They had different widths and whatnot, but the heights were all the same, I thought. In that case, they'da been looking to package him in whatever way to take up the space in that size box to fill it the best they could.

 

I expect that you're correct, but then they ditched that plan for Shockwave, packaging him in gun mode and putting him in the old tall/slim MP-1 style box. I haven't tried it, but I'm pretty sure alt mode Soundwave, Laserbeak, and his current accessories could've used that box instead and still fix perfectly. I get why they used the MP-11 style box, but it wasn't very efficient even then, since Soundwave doesn't have the alt mode fit issues that the Seekers or Magnus did.
