Good afternoon, I've wanted to make a custom Impactor since before there were any toys available for him, he's been one of favourite characters as well not only sacrificing himself to save the resistance leader Emirate Xaaron but then a 2nd time after being brought back as a zombie saving cybertron from total destruction at the hands of mad mental Flame, what an absolute hero despite having so little time in the original comics he certainly had an impact. Don't get me wrong I think the mmc idw version of him is an amazing toy but I always liked his simplistic design in the old days so felt he shared a lot of characteristics as Ironhide as far as I'm concerned they could almost be brothers or cast from a simular mold. So I picked up a cheap masterpiece Ironhide last year but struggled to bring myself to butchering him for months as he is(was) such a cool figure. I made a chest cover and cut pieces to glue on top to try replicate the shapes and for the head I cut off the protruding bit on front of his mohawk just above his noise then used it to fill in the gap to create the more gladiator helmet look. The harpoon was probably the biggest bugger ended up cutting 3 out until I was happy with the final shape then glued it into one of Ironhides water/foam cannon add ons for the wrists. The shoulder cannon was made from his existing back cannon cutting away most of the front until I was left with a kinda hexagonal shape then cut and bent more plastic to the shape of basically Shockwaves head. Looking at the old pics to me the shoulder cannon comes more off the back of his arm so drilled a small hole at the top of the arm shoulder and placing it there with the cannons added articulation can be flexed and moved around not affecting the posabilty of the figure or get in the way too much. I still feel the cannon barrel ended up a little to large though compared to the pics but other all am pretty pleased with actual figure how he turned out in the end. I painted the eyes red as a little homage to his zombie version and always felt he had quite a dark side to him for an autobot and that was before the idw comics lol! I would like to make the zombie version of him I reckon that would be quite a sick project another time maybe...
Yes so I designed the mods so he should technically be still able to transform unfortunately when I tryed the chest piece ripped clean off so super glued it back on and concentrated on the robot mode as that will be how he's displayed most of the time. The idea is when he's in van mode the front chest piece will be the front of the tank, the shoulder cannon I hoping will go on the roof hole designed for it originally giving a 360 degree spin for it then I will probably have to parts form some tracks to cover the original wheels, paint over the windows or armour plate them so it looks like an tank or apc sorta thing. There weren't ever any images released by marvel for an official alt mode so just going off artists impressions I've seen online. So that's the next part of the project and also the shouting face that came with Ironhide I'd like to modify and make swappable for his "WRECK AND RULE!!!!!" face lol. Guys would you recommend this as stronger than super glue? I need to permanently bond the 2 surfaces so the tension of transforming doesn't pull it apart again super glue just doesn't cut it. Many thanks
Plastic cement ≠superglue Cement will melt plastics and then once it dries, they dry as one whole piece. Super glue is a bond and is almost instant. If you're using it on a painted surface, the cement will eat away osme of the paint and melt whatever plastic is there, but won't hold well. Super glue might peel off some paint at first but it should hold stronger. I don't recommend cement for anything already painted. You normally cement before you paint.
Thanks for the advice mate the back of the chest piece I made isn't painted and it's being bonded to ironhides original chest mainly window with the painted frame which is no longer in sight anyway the plastic I used was quite thick but don't know if I want to risk it in case it melts right through but still need to find some thing stoner to permanently join it.
Apex and Gemini just arrived in the post I was gonna make custom version out of old k.o jumpstarters but no seeing them in the flesh so glad I got these dudes! I think I'm gonna have to do some Wrecker shots later minus Broadside and Rack and Ruin which are also custom projects on the cards.
Such a huge amount of custom work! Have you ever considered using an airbrush to get an even smoother finish to the paint?

It's just having the space to set up a spraying area that the issue perhaps when we have a bigger place one day. Hand Painting With Tamiya Acrylics I saw this and thought I could practice and pull off similar results by using this technique with a brush but just couldn't get the hang of it unfortunately. Has anyone else managed to use this guy's technique? Looks amazing when it works Litrally no brush marks. Maybe someone can explain it a different way so I get it. I think a lot of its down to time as well by the time my girls are in bed asleep it's so late I'm pretty tired and end up trying to rush these things. Bit like with this masterpiece Red alert I'm trying to repaint he came a light grey colour? Instead of white some bits I've done look really good while other side looks terrible.
Basically back when I was a kid me and my brother got brought a lot of non transformers, gobots/zybots a lot cheap alternative transforming robots. I guess with transformers being so expensive in comparison I used to get an official I got to pick from our local toys r us on my birthday. Anyway we had these blatant oversized KO's of Topspin and Twintwist (or maybe it was the other way round?) We had 4 of them in total I was considering cutting them up adding ball joints and articulation them repainting them for masterpiece kinda size of the brothers we know and love. But tbh I didn't have faith in myself to pull it off and make it look half decent I'll post the old KO's on here for you too see maybe someone can identify them? Also probably kinda nice to leave them ad they are for memory sake they used to be mine snd my brothers stand in jumpstarters for our battles
It could be your paint to thinner ratio or even the type of brush that you're using. You'll get a better result if you use a soft brush to hand paint.
I got a new set of brushes off eBay for it but wasn't impressed hair kept coming off them, found some of my old brushes last night from when I uses to paint citadel minutures back in the 90s so gonna give them a go.
