I'm going to wait for quality control verdicts before buying. I don't preorder stuff at all (outside of Phoenix X). Jazz is bought when in stock.

Might it relate to what happened with Ironhide? Can't blame you if that's the case. Then again, Barricade seems ok. Maybe Takara can step up this time

Ironhide and Prime actually. The carbots have been great QC-wise. It's the big bots that haven't been good.

To me, QC is hard to consider a major factor, as even steelbane (a figure widely panned for having terrible QC) has tight joints for me with no qc issues at all. I'll still take it into account, but not as much as others do. So as long as The figure is sculpted well, and doesn't have major design flaws (that lead to stress marks, breakage, weak joints by design, etc) Then it's a figure I'll most likely get.

A lot of us did, which is why I'm more cautious with figure releases in general nowadays, cause even if I want a figure, I rarely preorder it until I know for sure the thing isn't a qc wreck. Sure, I miss out on exclusives, but I don't want to play the qc russian roulette, especially with larger mpm releases. We know how mpm 4 and mpm 6 turned out, and those were relatively large releases compared to carbots, so if this were to follow in it's stead, then we'll have qc nightmare 3.0 in our hands.

Yep! Also, we have more resources now than back in the day. Video reviews have taken off and, more importantly, we have third parties improving the toys. If i knew there wasn't going to be a better version coming along there'd be no point in waiting. But now I can wait for Black Mabma or Wei Jiang to fix any issues.

I guess I still have the mentality of buying both the officials to support them and the KOs if they end up being more premium.

With Prime it has been noticeable (missing paint and stuff) but for the other MPMs I own (3 5 6), paint isn't that much of an issue so I'm refraining from rebuying KOs as of now.

As for Megatron & Jazz, I'm buying 'em the instant I can lay my hands on them. QC for MPMs has been half-decent for me so far so this might be a gamble worth undertaking. (Worst was Ironhide with his friggin' left arm rivet being too loose to the point of his whole arm falling off, but I just superglue'd that sonuvabith.)

That's the mentality of most people from what I know. Sometimes KOs take a while after the initial release of the officials so it can be seen as more rewarding short-term to just have the officials as soon as they come out. I'm the same as you believing in supporting the officials while buying 3P versions of they're a vast improvement (people don't like them being called KOs so I'm just playing along), such as Black Apple's MPM-4 despite having the official.

It's strange that we haven't seen a lot of 3P MPM-6s considering he's been out for well over 2 months? There's one unbranded KO which fixes some things but they're not significant in fixing the problems which announce itself, such as the unsecured shoulders. I'm guessing this is mainly due to Chinese New Years so Chinese 3Ps are out for a while. There's been no news of any of them although I'm unsure on the release gap between the 3P and officials so someone could clue us in.

QC in general has been good for carbots in the MPM line but a very mixed bag for the bigger bots, I think you'll have a better chance having a good Jazz than a decent Megs going by what we've had in the past. For me I'll probably get Jazz before Megs then perhaps get him at the end of the year after reviews are out. Which reminds me, I literally cannot budget any more MPs into my list so I probably can't get MPM-8 regardless.

If the originals suck, why would you want to support them? Thats their problem and they steal you 150 bucks.

I think that if there is not any bmb or wj ironhide is beacause they have to fix many qc problems from the original. Bmb mpm04 also came out very after the original realise.

Despite being flawed, the originals are still good figures. Additionally, the originals provide a springboard for the 3P KOs to improve upon; the idea behind supporting the official product is so the line can continue and give us the rest of the characters we're interested in seeing, again with the possibility for 3P improvements to anything that needs fixing. So I'll be getting Megatron and Jazz partially for Megatron and Jazz, and partially in the hopes of seeing Blackout, Ratchet, etc down the line.
