Yes, it’s a crappy picture, but those are blue vinyl for the leg pins to hide that crap. The color was the closest I could find out of several different versions I picked up... but looks pretty good.

Okay now lets see them make a better MP scaled bumblebee. They've already shown they can do a better backpack than Takara.

Painted the face. DANG! It seriously has such a huge effect on this dude. Almost like it's a different figure.

Documented if anybody is interested.


Popped the back off of his head by undoing the phillips screw there.



Carefully slide the front portion forward and the face and top/cap come of together. The side antennae will remain connected to the neck. The top cap can then slide back taking the eyes out with it.




I snipped small pieces of masking tape and placed it as close to the edge as possible. There's actually a tiny gap between the blue and the cheeks of the face that helps us here. Also if you're not perfect that's okay cause you can clean up any stray gray paint with some alcohol/thinner and a toothpick.

Now, usually I would take some fine grit sandpaper and scuff up the surface a bit, but it's such a small area and I won't be handling his face so I just wiped everything down with the alchohol wipe and let dry as the only prep.



I used acrylic model paint (Vallejo brand Model Color, purchased at Hobby Lobby) and mixed a base gray with gunmetal and white. The gunmetal may not have mattered. I wanted to go lighter first than darken if needed. Now some on here have brushed on the paint and I followed their directions, but apparently I did't thin out with water enough cause brush strokes were visible. So I pulled the masking tape off, wiped the paint off with the alcohol wipe, remasked, then poured my paint mixture into the ole' airbrush. Compressor on, couple test sprays, then a couple light coats and done!




Pulled the masking tape off after letting dry for about 30 minutes. Cleaned up any overspray with the alcohol wipe. Took a wooden toothpick soaked the tip for a second on the alcohol wipe and cleaned up the edges a tad. Voila!!







I'll be honest. I got the chills a little when I looked at him altogether. I get a kick out of this, seriously. SPARKS JOY!!!!




I did notice a blank spot where the masking tape must've walked and covered a portion right under his right eye. I touched it up with a bit of watered down gray paint, but it'll probably be noticeable enough for me to redo. The good thing about the acrylic paint is that it can be handled well enough but if needed comes off pretty easily.
