I mean, I get it, but at this point just remaking the same characters over and over is incredibly boring and a big reason why I fell out of love with Transformers a few years back.

We are still waiting for a first version of Jazz/Hound but we have had do overs for several characters on top of remolds and repaints. By the time Jazz comes out, I won't even care anymore.

Thats not some random character though..Its Bumblebee...Why didnt they do that with Sideswipe who is the oldest MP figure?Because he isnot Bumblebee thats why....Also if the 120$ pricetag is right i really dont know how can anyone justify that for a figure of this size..I dont give a fuck if it will have an ab crunch...Have they completely lost their fucking minds?
I mean even if someone is a hardcore TT fanboy this pricetag cant be justified

Just what I was thinking. Takara definitely wants to get the minibots released - they were important characters in G1, and would be smaller (which would mean easier to make, and probably cheaper to produce). But the realistic alt mode meant that we only got Bumble. So if they switch to having both modes match the cartoon, then they can get around the issues and start giving us Cliffjumper, Brawn, Beachcomber, Huffer, etc.

I actually like the idea, as it means we can finally have them released. It's not perfect, but no minibot solution is.

So glad they are going with the penny racer style for alt mode. Hopefully it’s not schoolbus yellorange this time.

Because demand and supply are market factors which determine price, there are more supply of Masterpiece Sideswipes than there will be Bumblebee v2s when he first comes out. There is also lower demand for an older figure of a less popular character such as Sideswipe and a higher demand for a newer figure of a more popular character being Bumblebee.

I think you're overreacting at this price a bit but that's not to say I don't believe that it is very expensive for a figure his size and it's too early to either justify the price or criticize it purely based on speculation and doing so presents biases and inaccuracies. Given MP-44 it's honestly not that surprising there's a price hike but if we want to continue this speculation then what was MP-21's original MRRP? By all means.

Sweet, more money saved. There's nothing wrong with MP-21 aside from the color. Only good news (for me) about this is that hopefully more Minibots are coming.

This was going to happen regardless; they might have just pushed it forward to ride on the buzz from the Bumblebee live action movie.

Aesthetics is a personal preference but no one should deny the engineering advancement that MP "toon accurate" 3.0 have produced so far. Takara have given us a cartoon accurate Megatron ffs, which imho would be one of if not the most difficult designs to pull off in the original cartoon. It's the need to recreate perfect toon accuracy that pushed the designers to the limit.

I still love Hasui's MP designs to Cybertron and back, but the old "hybrid of toon and toy" aesthetics would always give designers leeway to compromise, like Prime's window proportions. With the 'toon accuracy, designers had to stick to the original source material that much more closely, forcing them to explore new ideas and come up with new tricks (of course great sales and increased budget would also help tremendously). And this I believe more and less has led to good synergy in design elements, just like we saw when Takara were developing TFA and RotF at the same time back in 07 (Shogo Hasui touched on it in his TFA interview: two excellent toy lines that benefited from each other in concurrent development); which imho has contributed to the quality across the board in main lines like Siege and the Studio Series. Lots of amazing figures in these two lines. And it probably also helped TT convince Hasbro, yeah a combining SS Devastator? No problem we can pull that off too!

But in all seriousness, I'd probably pass. Not for the cost. My favorite MP era was the detailed car modes and their bot modes and I like the previous Bee. I love 'toonified bot modes so we'll see.

I'll reserve final judgement until there are pics but I personally think the existing mp bee is just fine. There are so many characters who don't have a MP representation yet - not even obscure characters but important season 1 characters.

Also, a toon accurate alt mode? Fuck that. The real world alt modes are a huge part of the appeal of mp figures. Should just launch a new line and call it something else if they're going to abandon that.

The price isn't surprising considering just how insane Takara has gone with their prices lately. Even if it actually does turn out to be a nice impressive figure, I'd be out on price alone. $120 just can't be justified for a freakin' minibot.
