The real question is notice how you dont see how they are alike

How are they alike? Besides being humanoid robots with two arms and two legs?

Hip skirts? Neither Optimus has those. V-fins? Nope. Mouth vents? Nada. Red chins? Negative. "Slipper" foot design? Regular boots for both Primes.

Gundams also usually have more rounder edges and shapes. Look at the one you posted, and you'll see it has curved shapes and alluded to "musculature." Which Optimus doesn't. Very square and angular. Gundams also typically, though not always have protruding chests. Like a central detail with flanking "pectoral vents." This shape has existed in many Gundams since the original RX-78-2, which had a central cockpit flanked by exhaust vents.

So to recap, they share no design cues, but do in fact both have roughly human-shaped proportions. By that logic, Optimus looks like every other giant robot ever. Ironically, the Optimus that most resembles a Gundam is G1 Optimus, who is very similar proportionally to the original Gundam design, down to the soft boxy arms, large torso, mouthplate and rounded hands. But that's mostly down to them both being simplified 70's/80's animation models.

Apparently, any robot design with more shape than "stack of boxes" is a Gundam to him.

Man this looks great, I love Gunpla and this is one of my favorite designs of Optimus Prime. After seeing the sticker sheet I may not use most of them though. I think this will look great with some painted details and panel lining. Just waiting on BBTS to get it in so they can ship it to me.

They should do some action master characters. I'd totally buy an IDW Powerflash kit.

The Bumblebee kit is clearly an AM homage, so maybe they will do more later

Just took the plunge and preordered this from bbts for 35.99$.....

This will be my 2nd model kit. My 1st one was the bandai minipla voltron and I enjoyed the heck out of it.....

Well with some paint and some stickers . For scale and comparison and stuff .
For quality wise , I believe I can say it’s slightly thicker plastic compared to bandai’s offerings . Feels better and adequate for the high price point compared to other kits in the size range.
As for articulations , head is on a ball joint and can look up , left and right but not all the way to due the sculpt of the helmet. Neck is on a rocker allowing you to bring it forward . Torso is two piece connected by a ball joint in the ribs to stimulate abs and side crunches .Biceps are double jointed allowing a good range of bend , knees are very articulated for a single joint due to collapsing calves gimmick . Toes articulate only upwards on a hinge and is limited , ball joints for the ankle though the range isn’t that great . The hip rockers though are something else ,it’s very similar to moon gundam’s but thicker , feels more durable and are individually articulated. The kit is overall very easy to assemble and the plastic doesn’t mark easily at least on my copy .

The general hand feel of the kit is more similar to an action figure than a model kit . Feels very solid , nothing really falls apart when handling the assembled kit.

The only real negatives are the damn stickers for the arms , it’s iconic to this interpretation of optimus . However it’s two big pieces of stickers with no area allowed for mistakes when putting it on. And due to it being on a foil sheet , it wrinkles easy. I also noticed some misalignment in the panel lines for the neck piece . .I 6A5309E0-0093-4315-A918-30A0E8CEB36A.jpeg 9295EB4B-AFEE-4177-AB22-D1B019DE05FC.jpeg BF96A852-9FE5-44C2-BB84-BA4D84ADD060.jpeg 7B0DA59E-2982-4015-A58A-669E467ED0FE.jpeg

Thanks for posting your thoughts about it. Looking forward to receiving mine. I think I will skip adding the large stickers for the arms and just paint instead and possibly add some 3D raised Autobot symbols purchased from Toyhax.

seems like an easy masking job tbh , didn’t need the autobot symbols on it. Would probably remove mine once it runs its course , he ditches the stripes before changing designs

Here's my paint-up and build of the Furai 02 Starscream. I included pics with Furai 01 and Siege Megatron for scale. I did some light weathering on Starscream much like I did with prime. It's a little more subtle than the Siege weathering but it gets the job done.
