Fair enough. How different are the upper body transformations? Are they dramatically different from each other to the point that each is essentially a separate experience? Or are they still somewhat samey?

Would anyone say the Takara Doublecross is a better option than the Hasbro one? I might get it and sell my Hasbro Twinferno since I did feel somewhat bothered by Twinferno and Grotusque having the same weapons (which struck me as somewhat lazy). At least the Takara Doublecross had a Targetmaster instead. Plus, I kinda liked the idea of White Leo and White Lune teaming up with Doublecross.

The upper body transformations are completely different. If it wasn't for the same transform sequence on the hips, legs , & feet, you would think all three were not related at all.
I have both the Hasbro & the Takara Doublecross's, other than a few different paint apps, they are the same. But the Takara one has the better painted titanmaster. imo.

I know takara already did new versions of the battle beasts, but I would really like them doing more premium versions with better articulation. Maybe slightly bigger than the battlemaster scale, or legends class height.

I seen the review from chefatron and basically what i got out of his review was paint is glossy. Well i have both of the figures and have double of repugnus. So i really don't need this version box set. I'm really glad that folks who didn't get these figures now get the chance especially grotesque. Which this is of how screwed up it was to order the figure.

Based on Chefatron's review, the figures are the same, but Takara used glossy paints while Hasbro used matte paints.

Yup, my buddies have the Hasbro versions and mine is Takara.

Tbh the differences are minimal or negligible...at least to me! :)

Well, I finally had my Takara Monsterbot 2-pack turn up today, courtesy of Kapow.

Initially I was pleased with the colourful, nicely-painted figures. And then I saw Repugnus's (main robot) face. For a moment I thought they'd forgotten to paint his eyes, and then I realised they'd used a very light green paint.

Fortunately, I've still got a spare Takara Legends Repugnus head from way back which is a lot better (imo). And you can spot those big blue eyes from a mile away. As for the other head, baby Takara Repugnus now has a new stomach.

Just to clarify, Is there extra paint on Takara Doublecross's main robot mode face? I've got Hasbro Twinferno, and I'm pretty happy with him. I originally only bought him because, a) There was nothing else that interested me in the store at the time, and b), he was heavily discounted. I ended up liking him more than I expected, but not so much that I'd pay four times as much for a slightly better painted version of him.

There isn't any more paint on the robot mode face IIRC. The dragon face is another thing. Where the horns, mouth, and teeth are all painted.

    He's really quite lovely.

The eyes are a slightly darker blue. The headmaster has a ton more paint, but the actual robot face has the same amount of paint.

I tend to be most interested in the robot mode. Overall, I like the Hasbro deco, (the grey chest and the single Autobot logo on it, the smoky black canopy as opposed to Takara's clear one, etc) so I'm good there.

Now this is where I did somewhat regret the lack of paint apps on TR Twinferno. However, I like the red dragon eyes and 'bone dragon head' effect. Combined with the fact that he'll almost always be in robot mode, I guess I won't stress too much over missing out on Takara Doublecross. Though I may paint his teeth myself.

That's it. Monsterbot Trio Challenge finally completely.

I probably might have preferred that, but no biggie.

I don't miss the paint on the Titanmaster, but it probably would have annoyed me if there was more paint on the Takara robot face (robot mode guy here).

So for me, Takara Doublecross = Painted Titanmaster, better painted/more detailed dragon heads and Targetmaster, while Hasbro Twinferno = preferred overall robot mode deco, and a lot cheaper.

Maybe if I hadn't already had Twinferno, I might have have gone for Doublecross. However, he suits my purposes just fine (and ironically, I'd originally only bought TR Twinferno pretty much out of boredom).

Guys, I noticed I got some paint chips on Repugnus yellow body (the cockpit) area, can anyone recommend me a matching yellow...I prefer to use Mr. Hobby acrylics...

Are you saying Hasbro Grotesque is actually more glossy than Takara's? I hadn't realised that.
