People buy what they want to buy. Welcome to the free world. Personally speaking, I’d never get a $450 TV. Because they suck. And I’d never get a $5 Starbucks coffee, because I think it’s grosly overpriced. I buy whatever the fuck I want. But then again, we all think differently. Why is this simple concept so hard to understand? Why trash others because of their buying habits?
I admit, I was kind of hoping that we might see something of a lower price considering in the past we have seen Hasbro releases of Masterpiece figures be cheaper than their Takara counterparts. Maybe not so much the cars, but I remember the US release of MP Grimlock was about half the price of the Takara version. Then MP Soundwave and the tapes were released in a full set with his tapes for about $120 or so while the import Soundwave was $150 and the tapes about $50 each. So it wasn't a big stretch to hope that the US release might have been a bit cheaper even if was by just $50 or so. But, I'm not going to bash the price since I'm no expert in economics or the reasons why he is so exspensive. But I will say that I will pass on this one since I do not have $450 to spend on a single toy at one time.
I think it's more of the fact that if someone is willing to pay this high of a price for something, $450 may become the standard rather than the outlier. And that'd make it tough on those who collect this line (and with everything we go through as collectors already, surely we deserve a break of some kind). We don't know what Takara is thinking but we do know that a business' main goal is to make money so if they can ask for more and someone gives it to them, what's to stop them from asking for even more next time? There are obvious counter-arguments to this but really the best example I can give is having your favorite restaurant raise prices solely because other people are willing to pay it. It's not the end of the world, but it is frustrating (especially if the quality dips as well). Basically others' buying habits can actually affect your buying habits as well. Sometimes positively but most of the time it's negatively. I'm not saying people shouldn't buy this figure, but I am saying people shouldn't buy this figure at that price. It'll send the message that while we still want the figure, we are patient enough to wait for a more reasonable price point. However, I have no intention of making fun of or shaming anyone who pays the $380 to $450 for this guy. Will I be frustrated? Sure, but you are right in the sense that people can do what they please with their money. It's just that while the whole purchase feels solitary, it silently affects all of us in ways we may not understand yet. Still, it is cool to see someone be excited about a new purchase so I can't really be mad at them. It does look cool after all so I completely understand. Incidentally, $250 is the max I'd pay if I wanted it. Set your own maximum as you please.
Yea me too! Remember when Hasbro was so worried about price that they didnt sell MP Rodimus with his trailer? 450 is ludicrous IMHO. It's not attainable for me.
Well me personally, I'll be buying KOs of all of them when they appear. I particularly want a KO of the BW MPs. I would rather pay for an original when its worth it, and buy KO when that OG is over priced. Really, there's only the availabilty of funds that is my hinderence. Its an eb and flow sort of thing. So for me, I'm pretty much open to buying both. It all depends. For MP44... Yea, thats gonna be a No at 450.00. Not worth that price. MP10 on the secondary market wasn't even that much, And I had to eBay mine from 2 years ago. So that was pretty expensive at 280.00. So 450? Nah..better to wait for the KO or a better 4th party product. TE looks good. But IDK. I'm looking for perfection. If someone release MP44 with KO and reformatted parts to make it better. Sans the trailer, I'd buy it. Then they could release the trailer later, and I'd be able to budget my purchases better. Plus the KO would be much less. Anyways, thats just my take on it.
Nice figure, but for me he is not hundreds of dollars better than my MP10. Pass for me but a great looking MP Prime
You’re talking about the land of porcelain anime girl statues, $400 gundam and macross models and pachinko machines. They don’t even have a word in their language for limit

Remember whe people were saying he was secretly coming with Hound as an unadervertised surprise two pack? That's how ludicrous this price is.
Then they should talk to Japanese people instead. Takara made up the price based on the Japanese market, and oversea import just apply the MSRP by default.
You know, personally, what I find irritating about this is that Hasbro cant even at least change the voice clips, the same goes for BW Megatron. Though I suppose being grossly overpriced is nothing new to MP's. I mean, look at how much Takara wanted for the MP-11's and the Cone heads compared to what Hasbro was charging. Then you have them basically DOUBLING the MSRP on repaints that basically amounts to a plastic pellet color swap with LESS paint, looking at you shockwave. But even I have to admit, they are playing a dangerous game. Prime is really pushing the envelop to the point that it becomes a wake up call to just how comparatively foolish we are forking over all of this money for what amounts to poorly made tiny plastic figurines. I know that between Siege, the grossly overpriced g1 reissues, and this Prime, it has became VERY difficult for me to ignore further.
If hasbro even bother to address the voice feature, I'd bet they'll just reuse the voice clips from the 20th anniversary release.
