Seriously. Otherwise he's just this:

 

I can be excited and still hate Gears. He just had a stupid design. Weird box thing with a face slapped on the front of it, and that was in the cartoon and comic. The toy doesn't even seem to have a face at all. I mean there's a few silver pieces and then a blue shape that is apparently meant to be a visor or something. He's just dumb looking. His one saving grace is that time he teamed up with Spider-Man.

 

Never had those two. Excited!

 

Seems fine to me. He was a $3 toy originally; they had to take some liberties with robot modes. Besides, the toys were made pre-Transformers with no expectation for them to be turned into cartoon characters.

 

I always liked how his toy looked. its a very simple looking boxy early 80's robot.

 

That's fair and I like those too but it's like Gears doesn't even have a head. His torso just kinda' keeps going and has a face, but not really even a face, just sort of slapped on. And in adapting him into the cartoon character they ended up giving him a really freakin' ugly head. I didn't like Brawn back in the day either but he's grown on me, but I've never been able to get over my dislike for Gears.

To be fair, G1 toys were kinda' ugly in general. Starscream's itty bitty head sitting in the middle of a big ol' cone that just kinda' points backwards and his legs that start with his knees right under his hips. Hot Rod's weird skinny arms that sit well behind... actually they're in the right place - his head and chest sit way forward of where they should be. But yeah, I just find Gears to be especially ugly. Seems that's an unpopular opinion around here but there it is.

 

I absolutely hate how he looks in the show too. he just looks like some sort of big brained robot monstrosity as opposed to a cute oddly shaped square robot.
G1 toys are very awkward. but I find that alot of them are charming because of it. G1 Warpath is SO bad but I love how utterly terrible and ridiculous he is.

 

Wait... these are actually going to be sold at Walmart this time?  

Someone call Hasbro and tell them not to fix the skipping record: distribution problems continue!

 

I am all in on team Gears. Second Transformer I had after Prowl. Still have my original, and a mint one, but will definitely pick up at least one carded reissue.

 

I cannot even begin to tell you how many moves this little guy has been through with me over 30+ years. Love this silly and boxy little Gears, the only survivor of my original collection! Will pick this new one up to display in-package if I see him out and about.

 

I need many copies of Warpath to fiddle with. He was my go-to fidgit thing back in the day.

 

Any chance we can update the thread at the start for the brickseek info - walmart.com info to avoid going through the entire thread? Maybe even a new Walmart thread combining all the Wave 2 product - Optimus, Soundwave & the mini bots?

Warpath is definitely the most non-sensical Autobot. His design with the giant cannon in his chest in robot mode is weird. He's the only Autobot that turns into a machine of war.. Well besides the aerialbots. Also a mini tank makes no sense. Tanks are big.

 

I've been a little choosy with my G1 reissues but I don't think I'd say no to Gears, I love that guy! Aside from my obvious Minibot need (and I'm not deluding myself, I sincerely doubt they'll do a Hubcap or Cliffjumper in this line) the only one I really want them to do next is Huffer - I never actually owned his G1 toy so him I'd happily buy two of so I can play with one and display the other in the box.

 

Seems weird to release just 2 minibots after the poor distribution of the first wave of 4. Do you think we'll see 2 of the previous releases restocked with these guys? Or maybe another go with the whole assortment in a case?

Fingers crossed as I never came across a Bumblebee locally and he was the only one I was interested in...

 

It would be very strange to just have 2.

We could also see 2 more of the recently reissued mini-bots: Pipes, Cosmos, Huffer, and Powerglide.

I need all 4 of those for my collection, so I'd be stocked on any.

 

Warpath and powerglide should of been made larger size in the original toy line. Powerglide should of been seeker sized and warpath should of been Blitzwing size. If Hasbro could of made powerglide (would be out of original g1 scale) Cobra Rattler size, they could if sold thousands of repainted cobra ratter repainted of powerglide when given joe vs TV comics came out.

 

Powerglide was an A-10. Hound was a military Jeep.

 

That’s not how things worked back then. They would have wanted to sell a $3 tank and jet for the sake of variety than to have “realistic” comparative scales for vehicle modes. Besides, the Autobot cars were their own sub-group and only featured cars from Diaclone.
