Maybe someone else has done this already and posted it...couldn't find it here. Anyway, did this quick mod of separating the blades from the sword weapon so that Siege Megatron can have barrel tilt and an easier turret rotation in tank mode. The separated rifle also makes a great stand alone weapon.
Not sure if anyone knows this either, but the gun now posted on the back gives a nice G1 vibe and the shaft that went through the gun is 5mm and fits securely in Megatron's hand. You don't need to put the screw back in either to hold it together as the friction between the two sides holds perfectly. Megatron now has a very G1-esque silhouette and a bladed melee weapon.
Really easy, as there's only 1 screw holding the posts together. Just take the screw out and pull apart. Voila
Like TAAO said, one screw. Easy! Oh I didn’t even think of that for the blade. Great idea. I might design and 3D print a shorter barrel for his back for that G1 look.
I am actually considering drilling a hole about an inch lower than the current one on his back. That would position the gun at about the right height, and since this line is all about the upgrade opportunities, the extra hole really wouldn't be noticeable.
Damn that’s neat. And especially cool you can still use the sword and have the cannon on the back. Can it be stored in alt mode at all?
Yep. Same way as originally planned. Without the screw, just separate the two pieces and plug back into the barrel, though you won't have the barrel tilt. Or if you still want the tilt, just slide the 2 pieces under the turrent. You won't be able to tilt the barrel up as far, but it will go a bit more than if it's connected.
Went ahead and designed and printed a G1 style barrel for his back in bot mode. Here’s the first pass. I may retool it a bit so it could peg in somewhere and look good in alt mode as well.
