Zeta / Toyworld Primorion. He can be shortened to fit into any of my MP scales. Ratchets and Diecast everywhere. Fully poseable with plenty of options.

I am collecting my Autobots in SG/Diaclone colours so in all honesty I dont need a new Prime. Mp10 SG is fitting the bill and the mold is as good as they come.

But, I am really tempted to give in to TE. Mp44 is suffering the same BS as Mp36 and whatever Mp Sunstreaker is...So thats a no for me.

Should I give in, Ill have to double dip on the Autobozos and thats what keeps me at bay. Not enough space.

It'd be interesting to have a more comprehensive OP poll including TW, GT, Zeta, all the KOs, etc

I didn’t want to, but I’ve gone and bought all of them (TE, MS, and MP-44) in addition to my MP-10. No more though (unless a better one comes out).

Pffft. Someone make another MP Prime toy after these? NEVER going to happen.

*looks into crystal ball and sees future self sitting cross legged, naked and cackling while surrounded by forty MP Prime toys from 20 different companies with very minimal differences between them - the year is 2020.*

After deliberating for a week I decided to go for the MS-01. I was going back and forth between that and the TE and the recent TE shots looks really amazing and convincing but at the end of the day the TE headsculpt seam really bothers me and to me that is a lack of engineering instead of coming up with a smarter solution. The lack of thigh swivel is also inexcusable in 2018 as it is crucial for natural poses. The kicker is the origami transformation which to me is against the spirit of transformers and totally not animation accurate. I am not pleased that Takara has been taking the same route lately with the masterpieces slowly being more of a panelformers instead of actual transformers where the alt mode parts are actually intergrated properly in the robot mode instead of just hiding behind panels. To me the last Masterpiece Takara made that is actually fun to transform and all car parts are well integrated is Ironhide and Inferno.

I never owned an MP10 because the proportion always bothers me. The long gorilla arms and stumpy legs made it look like a step back from MP01 visually. While is it an improvement engineering wise and poseablity wise, the overall proportion is just not very prime like.

I actually like the MPP10 a lot which fixes the proportion issue mostly (arms are still too long) but that one just doesn’t scaled with the other MP figures.

MS-01 appeals to me in the sense that it looks like a improved hybrid of MP10 and MP01 in the sense that that it has the bulk of MP01 (which is how I remember my Prime) but also modern engineering of MP10 and improved proportion of a 2018 G1 Prime. The fact that it has Hasui aesthetics which fits well with the early MP carbots is a plus and the familiar transformation are huge pluses.

I never thought MP44 looks good since the prototype. Always felt that the robot mode is not clean at all which all the breaks, the backpack is super huge and ugly, and the arms are a little too skinny for his body. And when the official pics came out, nothing changes for me and the price is the final nail in the confirm. Even though I am able to get it cheaper than most places here (sub 300USD), I am never giving my money to Takara again after this pricing debacle. I might get a KO later down the line just to see what makes Takara thinks they can justify such pricing but not at the current retail.

Hey guys, even tho I said I would update later after I got the others,I wanted to say that after I do chances are I will probably end up keeping all of them just so I can have like an Optimus Prime Shrine, also by my estimates I have (not counting the ones I have on PO) close to 40 Optimuses from various lines from G1 to Classics to RID,he is just so iconic he looks good in any incarnation you choose.Along with the Dinobots but thats another story for another thread.Later guys.

What's the arm upgrade for MP10?
Shorter forearms and a bicep would make him perfect

No real impulse to switch out from mp10, it still does the job perfectly fine for me and I'd rather be putting that money towards representations of characters I don't have.

You summed up my feelings exactly. I'm not a fan of the toon-slavishness of MPs lately. I was a fan of the toys first, and always understood that the characters on the cartoon were just drawings and shortcuts were made for the sake of animation. Most of my MP collection has the Hasui-ish look and I'm good with that. MP-44 and MP Sunstreaker both do the turn-inside-out thing with faux parts and I'm like you, I hate that.

Anyway, I think MS looks pretty good but I'm in no rush to buy any new Primes.

My vote goes to.....I like pie. :D

I think all 3 of the new MP Toon inspired Primes are great in their own way. Keeping MP-10 as he is a good representation of the G1 Toy. Definitely, getting MP-44. If TFE and Magic Square do recolors as Nemesis Prime and SG Prime, then I may get those and have a copy of all of 3 primes. The Magic Square having the cracked windows (optional parts), is already one step toward a Shattered Glass recolor.
Transformers Masterpiece Optimus Prime comparison MP44 Transform Element Magic Square 2019.jpg

Ben has reviews for each of the 3rd party Primes. BensKOllectables Highly recommend checking them out.

My break down on the MPs.

Mp-10 - If you like a version that is more detailed as well as looking more like the G1 Toy.

Magic Square - If you want a beefier version of Prime with detail elements from the Toy and Toon, a simpler intuitive transformation, soft ratchet joints, extra chrome bits, and optional parts (Toon Style head, and battle damaged windshields). Cons: Matrix is visible through the windshield. Ab crunch leaves a visible gap. (some may find the transformation to simple)

Transform Element - If you want a toon accurate Prime at 1/3 the price of the official with a more challenging transformation, die-cast and extra heft, a light up gun, and a hidden matrix chamber.
Cons: Needs ratcheted joint at top of the leg. No ab crunch. Less accessories. (Some may find the transformation to busy and tedious)

MP-44 aka Ver.3 - Takara is the house and the house always wins. If you want the most accessories, the most toon accurate in bot mode while still having extra detail in alt mode, widest range of articulation, and best color palette.
Cons: The price. Tons of parts break up the sculpt. The price. The price. It costs mucho. The price....and lastly, the price.

i've got enough G1 as it is, so I won't be replacing him. I'm pretty much done with G1 outside of combiners. There are a few out there I want, but not enough to drop the money. Definitely none to "upgrade".

Except Takara is not the most toon accurate this time. That accolades goes to TE Prime. Takara has a backpack that is way too large and skinny arms that is not proportionate with the rest of the body. Sure it looks kinda like that one line art that Takara repeatedly shoved in our face but in general OP arms are not that skinny.

TE-01 and MP-44 are rouhly on same level in terms of the toon accuracy, they only take different compromises with it.

MP-44 backpack is too big and arms are a tad too skinny, also all those panel lines.

TE-01 has rivets on chest and arms that aren't on the animation model, back of the hips isn't accurate as well and the head sculpt isn't what people usually think as Sunbow OP.

It's damned if you do, damned if you don't. There never will be a thing like 100% accurate and transforming Sunbow Optimus Prime because the G1 toon design is as fake and cheaty as are Bayformers. You can only pick which figure makes sacrifices more acceptable for you.

I'm fine with MP-10. Not because I think it's the best MP Prime but because I don't see the need in buying yet another MP Prime. Hell, I was perfectly content with MP-01 and only caved on MP-10 because they were starting some semblance of scale in the line.

MP-10 is my Prime. While MP-44 does a pretty damn good job at what it sets out to do, that price is ridonk and I'm not a huge fan of the drive to make the MP line look more and more like the janky undetailed TV animation-on-the-cheap of the 80s. I like some actual mech detailing in my bots and not smooth featureless panels. If animation accuracy is your thing, then MP-44 has that, but I'm more a fan of the looks-close-enough-to-G1 with some actual mech and real-world vehicle detailing.

Keeping MP-10. Already preordered MP-44 through amazon japan. Maybe buy a ko MP-44 to mess with often. Maybe a TE one when it drops to $40-50 when MP-44 is released.

Never had MP-10. I have MPP-10. The only MP scale Optimus I have is the Generation Toy OpEx which isn't really of course the classic one from the cartoons. I had seen the previews of MP44 and just have a very bleh opinion of it. The feet are awkward looking. There's a backpack and the whole body is a mess of origami panel lines. I don't think I'd even get a KO of it.

I sat on the fence for awhile. At first I liked the Magic Square version the best and having several of their Legends class figures I sort of know what to expect from them. I came close to switching camps to the TE version. In fact, if they could just have pulled off thigh swivel I'd go for it. With it's design, it pulls off the slim profile of Optimus, no real backpack to speak of, etc. It lost me on the lack of a thigh swivel, not even a small one. I still hold out hope that there's a V2 of the design or another company KOs it and comes up with a solution to allow the thigh to swivel. The knee just looks awkward to me and not what I expect out of a figure at that price level. So yesterday I finally ordered the Magic Square version.

Honestly if it had been TE against MP44 or MST against MP44, either of those would have been the winner for me. TE pulls off a complex design that doesn't have visible seams everywhere (by keeping the lines confined to natural parts of the figure). So I'm disappointed about the one concession they made to get their design done. I know it doesn't matter to those who ordered it, but it would be the only thing I saw unless I posed him stock straight.

I try not to buy piles of the same character. So I'm probably done for the time being. If someone pulls off the TE look with fully working joints, then maybe I'll get sucked in again. LOL

PS Exception being I'll almost certainly end up with basically the same figure again because I know I want Magic Square's Legends Prime when he finally drops.
