We did a 6 part draft out of a booster box today. 4 pack, advanced character draft. It was a lot of fun, anyone who's looking to grab some more sealed product, I highly recommend you grab a booster box and crack it open with friends (especially since it's so cheap on Amazon). I may be biased since I finally pulled rare Optimus, and went 3-0 with it but it was a blast, and I documented what we managed to draft and build if anyone is curious.
I see a rare Megatron also. We’re those the only 2 rates you pulled? I wish I had buddies interested enough in this to do it
If you're in the Ohio/Indiana/Kentucky tristate area I'm holding a draft with other people on January 5th! I think those are the only rares pulled. We have 6 packs unopened. They go to the best record after we finish all playing each other so I might update with those pulls at some point.
I didn't want to make another post about it, but we ran a 7 man, Advanced Character Draft this past Saturday, it was a real blast! The squad (minus camera man) What I pulled (woot second Nemesis!) To character draft I dropped everything but Nemesis, and tried to find stuff that fit around him. I ended up with Flamewar, Ransack, and Kickback. Someone else pulled a Cosmos so I was super curious how that matchup would go. Battle cards was mostly pip focused, trying to get plenty of orange and card draw, focusing more on action than armor to keep orange pips in the reshuffle. (Glad I did so I had opportunities to put drawn Improvised shields back into the deck). Everone seemed to have a great time, I highly recommend drafting as a way to expand your local scene! Good reason to buy another booster box (hopefully cheap through LGS discount or Amazon) and Transformers is draft friendly to the point where friends who haven't played Transformers TCG before but have played card games before picked it up and had a great time! My basic line of play was Transform Flamewar back and forth, Attack Ransack - Flamewar - Nemesis, and Transform Ransack before his second attack to use his damage before he dies. Then transform Nemesis before the first reshuffle, and if possible big Ransack back with I still function for an extra swing. Against Cosmos I mixed up the order more to try and keep Nemesis from being a target if the deck was thin on the opponent's side. Nemesis v Cosmos was the matchup we were most curious about. In a 25 card Deck, Nemesis gets big fast, and Cosmos has a much easier time sniping bots. While Cosmos did snipe Nemesis 2/3 matches, protecting Nemesis long enough meant that the Nemesis deck went 2-1 against Cosmos. I doubt I'll get the chance to try it again in a real draft, but it was a fun experiment to try out. The one game against Cosmos was the only one I dropped during the draft, so I got the two prize packs, have not opened them yet (might do a video discussion and pop them then). The other close match I had was still 2-0 but each game was down to 1 v 1 at the end and that was against an eclectic team of Hound, Skywarp, and Megatron. My buddy basically drafted to max pierce really melted through my team. Again, I just want to recommend the sealed format. We got a two players on our scene because of it, after we drafted we shared some characters so they could try to run a constructed tanks deck that's not shabby and it sounds like they'll be back again. I've seen people on different parts of the fandom complain about lack of a local scene, you can put in a bit of networking and build it yourselves, it's a very rewarding experience!
Saw your post on FB. I hope to get a local place here to do that more often. They asked me to help promote and expand the game. I think drafting is the way to go.
It really is a lot of fun. I've done two now, the first time was 6 of us, and I offered to buy and supply the box for the draft, and said I'd pay for the whole thing if I got to keep the cards, or if anyone wanted to pay their share before we popped the packs that was fine. I ended up keeping the box but it was a great way to demonstrate both the deck building and piloting of the game without a commitment. The second time 7 of us split the box. That only left 2 packs for prizes, if we did it again I think I'd get 10 people and grab to boxes so we can have 20 packs as prizes. And can give out say 10 packs for first place, 5 for second, 3 for third, and the last two packs as a lottery prize or something. We did best 2 out of 3 matches and with our decks that seemed to go plenty fast for most people. I'd love to hear how it ends up going for you!
I just came across this while on the Forum. I need to ask Is there any places to play this in Massachusetts? I had no idea there was a trading card game. Any information that anyone has on this would be great!
I’m sure there is. You’d need to find if there’s a local gaming store in your area and go in to see if they’re running events.
There probably are! I know that on facebook it seems like each local area has their own mini group, outside of the big Transformers TCG group. That might be a good place to start looking for people to play with! And I know most fans are trying to grow their local scene, so I'm sure there is someone in your area of Massachusetts with extra cards/decks that is willing to let you try playing the game and learning before you sink a bunch of money in!
