I believe the SDCC Version with the 5 cassettes had the same single door with exposed hinges like this one. The TRU one that came with two tapes had the double deck (though both of mine are packed away, so I am only going off quick internet pics, which I admit I didn't put much time into).

 

Is the SDCC the same release as the Universe/25th Anniversary version? If so, it definitely has the double tape door.

Looks like the figure in package is single deck while the photo on back is double. Photos of the “classics” release on bbts show the figure with the double deck in all shots (in either case, I know one is single, one is double, but unfortunately both are packed away for me): Transformers Generations Commemorative Soundwave with Ravage & Laserbeak

 

I will have to go check mine...its looks like the bix in the Walmart link above but wasn't an SDCC purchase. I did get it off ebay though...probably just the TRU version.

Either way, most likely will buy it anyway. Why? I like da BOX!

Well, seeing as the only way for me to get G1 Buzzsaw is to get this Soundwave, that'll be good cause it appears that to finish my G1 tapes will be through the cassette reissues hinted at. I just hope that Ratbat will be one of those reissues somewhere, and I refuse to buy a used one on the secondary market, like I did with Ravage after I got Takara's Collection 10 Soundwave, only to have waited a couple of years later and got the Toy R Us Classics Commemorative Edition. I'm still kicking myself in the butt for that one.

 

One thing for sure is that those rubsigns are all over the place - centered, in a corner, upside-down . . .

 

There's no doubt the individual buttons look so much better, it's really a shame we have never seen that tooling again.

If Prime is an indicator of how fast we will see this, I\'d say about 20 days after the first image showed up.  Prime in package showed up December 18th and hit shelves this week. So it could be as early as the end of the month. We really need a SKU or UPC so we cam track it better .

 

I literally just registered to ask this question because I couldn't see anyone else talking about it:

On the new version Buzzsaw seems to be gold in colour, but on every single other version pictured in this thread he seems to either be red or at least a very different colour to this reissue. Does anyone know what's up with that?

 

Buzzsaw is gold/yellow. Lazerbeak is red.

 

Past reissue versions came with Laserbeak...primarily because he was in the cartoon more and upped his demand.

But the original 1984 came with Buzzsaw. Laserbeak was in a 2-pack with Frenzy, IIRC off the top of my head. And Rumble came with Ravage. (It may be vice versa but, with the whole RIRFIB/RIBFIR debate, it really doesn't matter.)

 

Pretty much this. People just mix it up because Laserbeak was used primarily.

 

I probably wasn't very clear so I'll try and clarify:

When Soundwave first came out he was issued with Buzzsaw (I know Laserbeak is red). If you look at the image of the upcoming reissue, and then compare it to all the previous G1 releases of Soundwave (pictured on page 14 - I can't link to things yet). You'll see that the new release does not seem to be at all similar in colour to the G1 originals.

 

It's the same colors. The condor side is gold, while the cassette side is orangish. The new reissue is packaged backwards, with the cassette side facing down. You can see pictures of him here:
