Does the end of Bumblebee ruin the original Transformers?

The quote of the day ''“I was like, ‘That doesn’t contradict anything we have said before. Who is to say they haven’t been around Robots In Disguise since then.’”

Can Bay pay a big check to Paramount for getting this hack out of the studio please?

It may not technically "contradict" anything we've seen before, but it's one huge blank that has to be filled in for it to make any semblance of sense.

I love Lorenzo unironically. He really is a smart guy, just not with films…I guess he's going the route of "but what about if ThEY LeFt aNd CaMe bAcK?". So it's settled then, at least from the studio's perspective inasmuch Lorenzo is representative of that, it's mainly a prequel.

You know who Lorenzo reminds me of? Avi Arad. And not in a good way.
In a 'I'm a hack who has a very baisc knowledge of the thing Im promoting and desperately clings to what makes my resume look good"

The thing is, no movie producer is going to admit that there are mistakes in one of their movies, especially one that's still being marketed. I get that it comes across as dumb, but that's just the way Hollywood works. The same goes for the Last Knight. They're probably still trying to sell DVDs and whatnot. I really don't think Lorenzo is as idiotic as people seem to think, he's just saying what he feels is best for publicity. What do you expect him to say, that his movies are trash and are filled with irreconcilable continuity errors? That wouldn't be a great way to sell the movie.

The best thing he could have done is just said it’s a reboot guys.

That would please fans, but it might not be best in the long run. For instance, if Bumblebee is part of the previous series, that means they can put it in box sets, and sell toys in the same lines as Bayverse toys. If Bumblebee flops and they don't make any more, they'd be stuck with a single movie that can't be sold alongside the others.

I also wouldn't take this as 100% confirmation that it's a direct prequel. Future movies still might forge their own path away from the Bayverse. Their plans seem to be constantly changing and shifting. A lot will probably depend on who directs the next one (who might not even be hired yet).

What amazes me is that Paramount still lets the guy talk to reporters, bloggers or anyone else that can report or post his words. The guy might know something about movies but he knows nothing about fans. Instead of Paramount fixing their image with hey we made mistakes but give us another chance and we will get you folks you have Lorenzo out there painting a picture of Paramount still being out of touch.

The smartest thing Lorenzo could say is "no commit" and leave the selling of these movies to someone else.

Yup, and probably will eventually be pulled or just put on the side. Paramount more than likely is just letting him run his mouth till they know what they want.

I see your point, but look at the evidence

The movie went through reshoots which REMOVED links and references to the bayverse

The beginning was changed, from previously lining up with TLK to its own thing

The ending is clearly set up (Even Travis seemed to agree in a recent interview, tho to be fair he didnt explicitly say so)

Plus Hasbro flat out saying it would be a reboot, then a 'reset', then a new direction, etc, etc

I just think theres an incredible amount of disdain for the Bay movies among general audiences. The movie landscape has changed hugely since the DOTM days. I think he would do well to at least say it COULD be a reboot, or some hollywood shmuck like 'well, thats irrelevant, point is its a good movie' etc

Instead he insists on linking it to a bunch of movies that are largely disliked.

They can just retcon AOE & TLK by having Sam wake up, and realizing, It was all just a big nightmare.

    This.

I still remember reading about that conference and I feel like people don’t remember that they said they planned on resetting it there. I’m hoping they have their investor conference soon so we can get a clear answer.
