Let's see if BB will make the average 900 million.

Well I went to TRU and had the new Masterpiece BB in one hand and Masterpiece Barricade in the other. I walked out with Barricade.

All this talk of comparing Bumblebee to Aquaman, and not one Seaspray with the mermaids joke.
I feel kind of disappointed in the fandom right now.

It’s not your place to tell them what is good or not, or critique on their preference in a fandom.

The thing I am wondering is how muc is hasbro supposedly anti bayformers? Cos for a company who supposedly according to people here dislikes the bay stuff, they are pumping out studio series and mpm like nobody’s business and to great success

The Iron Giant was sadly a box office flop because of bad marketing . A sleeper hit would be making a lot of money without any major marketing or promotion

Everyone has their preference and everybody has nostalgia, yes. I love the Bay films, but I’m not going to act like they’re not steaming piles of dog shit quality cinema either.

Hey man I just picked up MPM Barricade over MPM BB and this is coming from a G1 fan. Much prefer the Mustang/Desepitcon to the Baby-faced BB Herby the love bug.

Its called "milking the cow". They may dislike the direction of the bayformers (maybe in terms of story line), but they know there are some that do like design of the bots.

For me, I guess I am a G1 fan but I do appreciate the bots and bot scenes in the movies (but hate the rest of stuff from the movies). Overall i see it as "G2" (or G3) Transformers, lol.

Hey, it's not like I was expecting it to cross 1 billion. I just wanted it to be asuccesfull to show the stupid executives what movies they should be PERSUING. And while some may point out to the critical reception (which I do agree with) it's never a sure thing, heck, sometimes even the contrary.

So, guess my only hope now of good tf content are cartoons and comics... and hopefully in next life, like a wise friend told me, Hasbro abandons Paramount after DotM and then partners with a BETTER studio. (Not gonna say which one because I don't want to be eaten alive)

In the 80s, didn't Hasbro partner with Marvel for G1 cartoons? :D

AND the comics, but yeah, you got pretty close to what I was thinking dude ;) . Yes, hopefully in my next life Hasbro partners with Marvel Studios, I mean if there is someone who understand respect for the source, is our lord Feigi

When they set Bumblebee's release date, it probably made some bit of sense. The Christmas weekend is generally a good time to release family movies. There was no Star Wars juggernaut to contend with; WB and the DCEU was reeling from repeated box office disappointments, and a movie about a guy who could talk to fish seemed far from a sure bet; Mary Poppins likely didn't draw too much from their target; and Spider-Man at the time seemed more like something better suited for VOD release.

However Bumblebee ran into a combined threat of an Aquaman and Spider-Man movies that were more fun and better written/directed than they had any rights to have been. Add in the admittedly lackluster marketing, and the film was going to suffer.

A few thoughts on the previously noted marketing:
On the East Coast I did see a fair amount of advertising for bumblebee, but most of it was simply boring. All the ads seemed to offer a movie that looked nearly identical to the 2007 film.
    Yellow carbot prominently featured: CHECK
Quick combat cut scenes with nameless baddies: CHECK
    Army/Special Forces guys: CHECK
Young, out of place, awkward teenager: CHECK
Cute, playful relationship between aforementioned teenager and bot, where they both learn something from each other: CHECK

I'm not sure how they thought such ads would appeal to general audiences, especially when Aquaman trailers made that movie look increasingly different (re: fun and colorful) from past D.C. offerings. Indeed I feel like you could recut the Bumblebee trailers and use them for Transformers 2007 without any problems. And that's a big marketing blunder--especially if you are angling for a soft reboot of the franchise.

This movie failing might have huge implications for the entire brand. If it and the inevitable next installment fail, what will the absence of a movie franchise mean for video games, television, and toys? Along with the release and success of the movies, the franchise saw a bit of a resurgence. The Universe toyline was released mid-2008, which already had a good few Unicron Trilogy repaints and the movie toys were around at the time as well. The shows have been highly influenced by the movies (Animated, Prime). Lastly, we got War for Cybertron just two years after 2008. I feel that, if the movies were not successful and didn't return the brand to the forefront in a big way, we wouldn't have as much content as we do now.

True, but if it fails, we don't get any more of these movies.

Their animated studio also co-produced Transformers G1 cartoon.
    Marvel Productions - Wikipedia

in fact some of the writers for some of the episodes were Marvel comic book writers.

But doesn't the fact that Spider-man is now above Aquaman give a little hope to all this or am I missin something? I mean it is not a new release anymore...

Idk, I'm just a little sad because I know the people who pull the strings won't care about the reception for how universally good it might be and the only thing they want are the big big money. So sad, but at least I will always have a Tf movie I don't have to call guilty pleasure

I kind of wonder with too damn many streaming services now if people might decide it's easier to just watch something at the theater instead of having to pick up and cancel subscription services just to keep up with the big movies. I'm thinking of the three movies I've seen recently that all three movies are going to end up on different streaming services.
