If the execs can't see the critical response to this movie (which has been extremely positive; I have yet to read a single review where it's hated) and take into account Bay fatigue, given his track record with the franchise and factor that in, then it's doomed and there's nothing anyone can do about it.

At least we got one genuinely great TF movie (Bumblebee) and one decent one (TF07).

Optimus isn't on Earth yet when he's narrating in the opening scene of 2007, yet he's speaking English.

Given that Knight couldn't put Megatron in the film, because of the original movie continuity, I'd say that makes Bumblebee kind of a hybrid of the two. It's a retcon prequel.

I’d like to point out that the Transformers knowing how to speak English without the Internet thing was always going to have to be retconned with prequels. Having them speak Cybertronian the whole time just wouldn’t work lol. I think even Bay did an interview a while back saying they just decided to have them all speak English in the sequels.

Some times a studio makes a big deal about it being a reboot because that's good for marketing. When fans were not happy with Spider Man it was a good marketing tool to say reboot in as many interviews as they could because it's short hand to fans that everything you didn't like has been wiped off the board. Don't like Doc Ock being dead, boom reboot, didn't like the Rhino design, boom reboot.

Other times everyone knows it's reboot but the reboot word doesn't get used. Everyone and their granny knows that Deadpool is a reboot even with the same actor and doing the same things like cutting a bullet with a sword. Got the costume, got the attitude, why even bother to take time to clarify it's a reboot.

Other times thing have drastically changed but there isn't that thing that makes it clearly a reboot. James Bond has been running forever with lots of very different actors playing the world's most famous spy but you never hear them toss around the word reboot. Even with the Daniel Craig movies people were saying oh it's a reboot, then Skyfall comes out and maybe it's all somehow connected to the Bond past.

I tend to go with the theory that other fans have that it works in Paramount's favor to keep the waters muddy right now. Doesn't seem like they have to give a definitive reboot or not reboot until they start marketing whatever comes after Bumblebee.

But he finishes his speech with "But we were already too late." He's narrating the story to the viewers after it's over (for him). Otherwise he wouldn't know they were already too late.

After seeing the movie I have to say that: THIS IS A REBOOT!

A friend of mine claims that because Sector 7 is in this movie, is a direct prequel to the Bay movies but...there are a lot of things that dont match at all. First is the case of Bumblebee's voice, he got damaged by Megatron and not Blitzwing. Then, when Shatter and Dropkick entered Sector 7 and used their computers, why they couldnt tell Megatron was in the next room? xD Prime here sends Bumblebee to stablish a base and in the 2007 movie Prime arrived after Bumblebee found out about the AllSpark. That's another thing: Prime, Bee and some others arrived in the 80s and not in 2007 like the first movie said. 2008? Anyway, times dont match.
Yeh, yeh, he is a Camaro by the end of the movie but that doesnt mean anything. xD
And I could continue but nope. I am already sleepy. xD

    So, yeh, REBOOT. ^^

Personally think its a reboot meself…..You can get away with a good few continuity gaffs but surely some of these are deliberate?

Shockwaves presence on Cybertron for instance? He should be in Russia at this stage shouldn't he? Causing the Chernobyl incident? Isnt that what he did....LOL.

then Bee not being here for WW2 completely wipes TLK surely.....massive storyline element of the movie?

either way I loved Bumblebee and wanna see more movies in this vein

I wish it was a reboot, but the writer said it was a prequel..Megatron was absent because he was stuck on Earth in the ice. So close to being a great tf film too. Traces of the bayverse still posion this movie.
It was ok but hopefully the box office proves that people are sick of stupid tfs film and they reboot the whole franchise.

That was actually the engine part from the Ark. Shockwave was just there to make it seem like the Decepticons wanted it.

I believe people are confused because of the DOTM game where Shockwave was kept by the Soviets in cryo-stasis like Megatron was and consider it part of the timeline but we know it's not the case.

Yeh but when seeing the movie, you kinda realize that ..its dumb that the cons didnt see Megatron in the next room. xD I mean..really? The Travis Megatron is NOT frozen in the Sector 7 base. Trust me.

And yeh, the whole WW2 Bumblebee makes no sense now. xD

The only thing that would make sense is if Megatron and the Allspark were kept in a deeper more secret section of S7. They even mentioned that in the first film, that it was kept so far down and sealed off as to prevent detection "by anyone, or any alien species from the outside."
In the original cut, appearently, they address this when they say that they cannot allow anyone to know about NBE-1, which led to the Megatron cameo inside S7.

Make no mistake, I'm still in the "its a reboot" crowd, but this is somewhat explainable.

Yeah. The way I came to this conclusion was by weighing how many times I had to say "I loved it, but this part.." in regards to each movie. Bumblebee won by a landslide, lol.
