With all due respect, and I've barely participated in this topic so I'm probably not included in your post...

The price of a product and the content of the product are not only valid areas of discussion of said product, it could be argued they're the entirety of the substance of any discussion on the product.

Look, don't get me wrong. I'm thrilled we're getting G1 style packaged reissues, it's something I've wanted for ages now. I bought Hot Rod, several of the minibots, and Devy. I might even end up buying this, depending on whether I can afford to, and I'm definitely going to get Astrotrain as some of my fondest childhood memories are of receiving him one Christmas morning long ago. And I'm not seeking to argue.

But, "Is this a) what I want, and b) a price I'm willing to pay?" is absolutely a valid question and discussion topic in a thread dedicated to this product variant. As are comparisons to other, relatively recent in memory reissues of this product which did contain the trailer.

The trailer is such an iconic component of the G1 Optimus Prime "experience" and people's memories of it, that its exclusion definitely factors into whether this hits the mark or not for those who are looking to relive that thanks to this style of packaging.

I know it's never fun to see people critiquing something you like, but... in this case it's based on sound reasons.

yeah I agree with everything they said above me...

    I really REAAALLLY wanted this.

    s-l300.jpg

As I had as a kid, and I was so excited that we had such a good chance to get it. Now it seems that chance is lost, and it's quite disappointing to a lot of us.

And I know, I could get a KO, or put out $500 bucks and get a vintage one, but to go into a store and find them on the shelves again would have be amazing.

A KO would be ok, but it would always bother me, just because its a KO, and it would probably break as soon as I handled it, or be screwed up in some way I would notice. And price doesn't really bother me, but there is a point where I just have to say no, and the sealed originals are just way too much to spend, especially when I would want to open it up and fiddle with it.

I don't know if it has been posted yet but In-demand toys who is based out of the UK has posted pre-orders for this.
they're charging £49.99 (about $63 USD). They said their stock is Arriving in 5-10 days.

Why shouldn't price be a topic of discussion? After all, it's possibly the biggest factor in deciding whether or not people actually want this figure. The damn thing costs as much as Leader Class figures.

And it is collectors like you that allows Hasbro to make stupid decisions like this cause you would take whatever crap they shove at your face.

There is no excuse that this didn’t come with a trailer. Don’t even bother calling it a reissue if it wasn’t even a reissue in thr first place. Have you ever seen Optimus Prime sold without a trailer back in the 80s? I sure didn’t.

Pardon me for asking this but does this reissue come with the normal smokestacks?

Or (shockingly) some of us are interested in it even without the trailer, go figure. Not like vintage ones (seen a few in the $80-100 range in the last week) in good condition or even a slew of reissues where this is the only option for people. I personally don’t need the 30 seconds of ephoria buying it off the shelf for the full experience. I’ll still grab one to go with My vintage ones, tru reissue from years ago, and crappy 25th. Can always wait for the inevitable next reissue and hope it has a trailer.

$50 without a trailer is an absolute joke and indicative of the Gouging we have been seeing from them with collectors items. No trailer this is a $25 toy tops. Oh and until we see an in hand retail one with Long Stacks I refuse to believe they will not be short.

Better off buying a Chinese KO with the trailer for $35 shipped on Ebay.

The Optimus KO is really terrible, because the mold is so overused. The box is still pretty neat though. If you really want this you can get a KO off eBay for $30 and give the toy to a kid, then put a reissue (averaging about $60 on eBay) in the box. Not perfect, but it'll look cool on your shelf.

I bought the Chinese KO long ago just for the toy in the box display.

If that's all a person is wanting, it is the best option for the money.

When walmart sees that no one is spending $50 on this, they will keep lowering the price until their stock moves. I personally was kind of hoping to see an original prime, with trailer, and long stacks, in a g1 box. This to me isn't worth it the cost at all, but like I said, I'm sure it will come down.

Oh we'll probably get the trailer in a separate box later on down the line for $60-$70 or so. If this is something that floats your boat, by all means, enjoy! Personally, I think it's pretty silly and quite unnecessary. The funniest part to me, is that I had a hard time selling a MISB Takara reissue (complete with trailer) for nearly the same price not all that long ago.

I know it sounds silly, but I've been contemplating getting the KO for the box and trailer, and then maybe getting this reissue to swap the cab with the official, but that is counting on blue plastic colors matching. I know that makes no sense, but it would be something nice to just have IMHO.

I don’t care about the disappearing trailer. This release is perfect for me!!

I get people not being happy with the price but I also don’t care. We don’t have to buy thier crap. But if we want it we should pay what they ask. It gets old seeing people say they will wait for the KO or 3rd party or whatever. But oh well, feel free to complain. As Bobby Brown once said “That’s your prerogative.”

Well, I don't need permission to make my own decisions. Why can't you just let me live?

^^This. Looking at you, recently discounted Hot Rod and Devastator. Didn't the mini bots even start out at a price above the $7.86 that they are tagged at in store? :2c:

Has anybody thought the reason this is so expensive is because of how much Diecast it has? Optimus has as much diecast has all the others combined if they are doing it right.

Hot Rod is the only one that's been discounted. The minibots started at $8 then worked up but were rarely available for sale at the higher prices, and in store they're $8. Devy and Starscream sold out before being put on sale
