So let me just start off by saying, this movie was incredible, so good in fact, it made me make an account.

In spite of being 18, I have a lot of G1 nostalgia, as it is what got me into the franchise (watched it on Netflix in middle school). However, I was only ever really into the franchise during that part of my life, and lost interest in high school. the movies have never particularly interested me, I saw the first couple back in the day but that's about it, but I happened to see the trailer for this one in front of some other movie that I can't seem to remember at the moment, and I was hooked. Admittedly, this was largely because of all the G1 stuff in it, in particular the character designs.

While I came for the G1 Nostalgia, I ended up getting so much more. This film had heart, great characters, some actually pretty emotional moments, and an over all "feel good" tone to it. I found Charlie to be a fantastic protagonist, she was funny, charming, but had flaws, and I really felt for her. Honestly, the last thing I expected to say coming out of a Transformers movie was that the main human character was fantastic. John Cena, amazingly, can act, and thought he made for a good human villain. His motivations were understandable, and I really like that by the end he saw the error in his mentality, it made him seem more like a real person. I really like that the relationship between Charlie and Memo was kept platonic, especially since it seemed like they were going to take the romance angle at first. It was quite refreshing, actually. Speaking of refreshing, the humor was a breath of fresh air compared to the brand of humor that Marvel Studios has pioneered and seems to have largely been adopted by every one else. It was funny, but restrained, it felt natural, rather than almost winking at the audience like the Marvel style.

Of course, the Transformers parts were great as well. Those first five minutes, oh man, it was like being in middle school all over again. It truly made me feel like a kid, in a good way. The action was wonderful, much better than what I remember from the first couple Bay movies (I could actually follow what was going on!). It was a joy to see the original designs so well recreated on the big screen. I will admit, I am a bit annoyed that they continued the weird "Bumblebee can't talk" thing from the Bay films, but then again, this is supposedly a prequel, so whatever. That said, they did a very good job with Bumblebee in this film given that restraint. He was certainly a different character than from G1, but I was fine with it. He was almost like a puppy dog, wide eyed and curious, he was actually kind of adorable. Shatter and Dropkick were fun villains, even if Dropkick was somewhat forgettable compared to Shatter. I liked Shatter's shtick of pretending to be kind to the humans, and how quickly it switched after they got what they wanted.

I'm still kind of processing it, and I'm sure I would have more to say if had some time to sit on it, but I loved this film. It completely reignited my interest in this franchise. It's made me want to go back and watch some of the newer shows (like Prime or Cyberverse), maybe even read the IDW or classic Marvel stuff, who knows! I am excited to dive back into this world, and I'm happy this movie convinced me to do it.

I hope we get some good toys in the studio series line.

We are getting Optimus, dropkick, shatter, and dropkick (carmode)

I hope we also get Blitzwing and camaro bee. Maybe even some Cybertron bits like cliff jumper and bee. Hell I’ll take a Jeep bee too. Never too many bees

I've seen it, there's cheering and laugh but not at the same level as Avengers & Bumblebee. It feels pretty... average? Even though the theatre was packed.

At long last I saw the movie. Yeah it's been a while for me. Both since I've last seen a good movie and since June 23rd 2017.
It irritates me that I am soo late but hey better later than never!
I'd like to review the film in two ways. As a regular viewer and as a transformers fan.

As a regular viewer I enjoyed it very much. It was entertaining, fun, spectacular and easy to follow. It had everything that a movie needs to be good.
The story was interesting and just as equally as important - executed properly. Travis Knight's directing is much more fluent and straightforward than Michael Bay's which in this case is a major positive. Everything seems simple and well structred. You can tell who the bad guys are and what they want.

The human characters were enjoyable to say the least given that it's a film about robots. I can't say I cared for the others as much as for Charlie but I definitely enjoyed them. They weren't annoying. And also the movie didn't spend much time on them. That was great. The transformers characters were the spotlight in this film. I am so glad they are characters now. They've got personalities. They do stuff that matters. It's brilliant! The robots' behaviour is that of real soldiers and not some annoying racist, corny metal jerks like in the last movie. I actually felt their emotion...that alone speaks for itself.

The editing of the movie is a huge improvement. And not just of the last one but of the previous 4 if not even 5. No annoying aspect ration shifting, no unwanted background stupidity, no rushed transitions between the scenes and of course it was easy on the eyes. The cinematography was smooth. The major action in the scenes is located in the centre of the screen not like in the Bay movies where it constantly moves across the screen. That definitely improves the perception of the film and the viewing experience for the audiance.

As someone who has grown up with the live action movies I was left with mixed feelings. That is not necessarily a bad thing but it leaves a certain unsettling feeling in me. It has nothing to do with the things I already disguissed. It's more about me being so used to seeing a certain lever of realism with these movies that I missed this time. There were times when the friendly tone and simplicity of this film irritated me. The cartoonish designs, the awkwardness of the military which I know was intentional, the fact the Autobots and Decepticons speak in English on Cybertron and even their own letters and HUD texts are in English instead of alien hieroglyphs and things like that lower the enjoyment factor for me. This is why I am afraid I can't say I like this movie better than the 2007 one. I really want to but just... say whatever you want about Michael Bay but the one thing I really liked about his movies was that he always tried to make them feel as realistic as possible. So for me personally this movie stands below the first one.

All in all I feel like this is a step in the right direction. The movie goes back to the roots of transformers and I am happy with that. What matters the most is that people like it. There are elements that really make it seem like it's part of the Bayverse but on the other hand there are elements that directly contradict that theory. So I guess it is a reboot and it better be. Travis Knight thank you for you contribution to the world of transformers.

Just got back. Thank god this film is a VAST improvement. Hell it is better than any Bay version.

    - Simple story. Easy to follow logic. You have a few "bad" humans, good humans, two main decepticons, one autobot, and tons of cameos. Smaller focus, better film.
    - No raunchy sexing up shots or crude humor. Most crude thing was the little brother puking. No ass shots of Megan Fox bending over covered in bronzer. Keep in mind she was supposed to be 17 in that film.
    - You can tell the bots apart with ease! Three main bots. Each a different shape, color, and design. Only ones that looked generic were the seeker bots on Cybertron.. who are meant to be generic.
    - The cameos.. dear god when i saw the cybertron fight i grinned. Instant recognition of the bots. Ratchet! Wheeljack! Brawn! Arcee! I could tell who they were at a glance.
    - The Touch joke got a good laugh out of me. Genuine comedy. Bee with the TP and eggs was cute. Even him in the house was amusing.
    - I did smile at young Simmons. As soon as he came on i got who it was, then saw the name tag and had it confirmed.
    - good music.
    - The Golden Gate shot with Optimus and Bee was awesome. Only wish a few others joined them. Have a red minivan, ambulance, and a white Porsche with a stripe join.

I think we learned. To make a well done Transformers film, ditch Bay.

Also i was kinda shocked how short the credits were. I stay in case there are stuff at the end (there wasn't) and sometimes it takes forever. Here it seemed less than 5 minutes.

Just saw it. Surprised it was allowed to crap in the existing continuity, but hopefully they can use it as a launch pad.

I read a post earlier, and also realized it during the first 10 mins.....
The name "Blitzwing" was never mentioned, but the character DID make a tongue n cheek reference to Starscream when he pointed his weapon and yelled "I'LL MAKE YOU SCREAM!"

He was half transformed and his engines and cogs and junk were still moving, so pulling it all into each other would probably not be good lol

I saw the movie on Saturday. I thoroughly enjoyed it (although I kind of rank the 2007 film above it, but I’m probably biased because that movie is what got me into Transformers in the first place); however, it did a very good job of washing the bad taste that TLK left in my mouth. I just hope, should they decide to use this movie as a launching pad for a new continuity, that they come up with original ideas and/or acknowledge the other universes/continuities that exist within the franchise than just G1. I liked the Cybertron scenes, though. If we didn’t have the WFC Siege line, I wouldn’t mind seeing Studio Series figures of those designs, especially of Soundwave.

Amazing movie! But I'm still quite confused. Wasn't Bumblebee on Earth way before 1987? Was the retconned? Clear a girl's doubt!

Saw it this afternoon, absolutely enjoyed it. The CGI was fantastic! The story, characters and fight scenes were done very well. Yes the 'Cons died yet again but I found the deaths very creative and... pleasing, they fought well with awesome choreography and weren't caught out by parachute blindness. I mean, Dropkick was tangled inside out with anchor chains!! After TLK I had lost all interest but this film has restored that and I hope they learn from this.

    Please be a reboot.

Iron Giant, sorta thing. Or... He was pissed off with the amount of shit he had!

Wow just wow. An excellent film.

The film was clearly originally designed as a prequel but they changed direction whilst in production. I just wish they would be honest and explain that. It would allow people to understand the film better.

I hope they are confident enough to make a sequel featuring the G1 designs and set in the late 80s.

I was wondering if it was from something that was re-edited - In TLK Burton says that Bumblebee was once 'not nice' so perhaps the original plan/script had him be this Nazi killing machine and it wasn't until he met Charlie he became the friendly Bumblebee. The red eyes was him reverting back to that periodically. Just a thought.

It was still a nice effect in the (re-edited?) film and so much better for it.

Dropkick and Shatter look more powerfull and terrifying than the whole army of decepticon that Michael Bay shown us.

I would have like one of this 2 survive.

Similar to in 2007 when he wakes up in S7 headquarters and immediately pulls his battle mask down and his eyes turn to look like a hornet's or wasp's.

I am 100% convinced that this movie is set in a new universe of the Movie continuity family, separate from the previous movies in the same way that the G1 cartoon, Marvel comic and IDW comic are all separate but related. Bumblebee flat out contradicts too much stuff from the other movies.

IF this gets a sequel (hopefully) we'll probably see similar plot points from the other films but with some new twist. Like, Megatron is missing, but instead of being held captive by humans he'll be out in space or buried somewhere. Maybe the Allspark or a better version of The Fallen might show up?
This might be the start of the Transformers version of the "cinematic universe" concept, except it's upscaled to "cinematic multiverse". Bayformers was simply the first universe we saw of the Movie continuity family, Knightformers is the second, and any future reboots will also apply.

Still, a lot of what-ifs. Honest to god hope this movie makes a profit so we actually get several more quality TF films instead of simply settling for the previous five.

Paramount would probably be fine with around high 400s to 500s for worldwide gross. I think there's a good chance of it getting there, but I also strongly doubt it's going to pull a Jumanji.
