That's an interesting line of thought.

I never thought of the robots actually becoming literal copies of the vehicles, just superficially disguising themselves as them.

They're robots that fold up into vehicles. That's what he looks like as a robot. There's no reason that the all the red robot bits need to equal all the red vehicle bits.

 

I would say the movie designs cheat about as much with that as the cartoons do though. One of the more extreme examples is Bumblebee's '60s Camaro form in Age of Extinction. The robot mode has a significant amount of yellow, while the vehicle has very little.

 

This design was glorious to watch in motion on the big screen, and I'm so happy we seem to be getting a great representation of it so soon!

If Generations was still pushing to provide modern design updates to classic characters, this is what G1 Prime feels like he should be in the 21st Century.

Now I just hope that spring 2019 release date is accurate!

 

Really looking forward to the eventual MPM of this design with a correct Freightliner alt mode.

In the meantime, this voyager still looks amazingly good, and is exactly the type of modernized G1 Optimus I'd always hoped to get.

 

The MPM of this design will have to perform MP-44 levels of magic to somehow make it possible with the alt mode and the bot mode having clearly different shaped chest windows. Now, that's really in the G1 spirit - in spite of it being a highly detailed CGI model it still goes full Sunbow on certain things...

 

Yeah, the MPM is not worth it, at least not yet. It's clear Prime in this movie was never meant to transform into the truck we see in the film. I'm sure they'll make changes for the sequel, but we are not there yet.

 

Yeah, they need to have to release an Optimus Prime for every Movie. Maybe the remold will be under Transformers: Optimus Prime with his solo movie.

It reminds me nothing so much as IDW Prime, a design I was hoping to get all the way back during Thrilling 30th. This is the T30 Voyager Optimus I always wanted but never got. That is awesome.

 

never understood why they didn't do a Voyager of the Legends version in T30. It wouldn't have needed much more then that, but just the niceties the size class would allow (more/better articulation, translucent windows, silver paint, more convincing truck mode, etc) The design was all there.

 

He needs a certain accessory to really pop imo

why do you think so? I see every detail belonging to the altmode in that windshield, plus the wipers wouldn't be necessary.
