Honestly I wouldn't mind getting SS38 Optimus. He looks sooo good to me.

Or should I wait for his solo movie version? Maybe his design will be refined to fit the movieverse a bit more

Yeah. But they make changes in design so they can recreate it in physical form. And they’re not even that different. They just transform in different ways. You’ve lost me on what you’re trying to say. So if you wish to restate so I can understand I can continue.
Woh. That’s amazing! I may need to get one of those. Of course I’m one of the actual people who genuinely want a retool into grindor. Cause minor details. But that does the job real well. If it was green I’d be extra down.

Because the existing two SS figures look nothing like the Prime you see here?

See I was thinking that as well. But I don’t really search for perfect movie toys from studio series anyway. So whenever his solo film comes out or we see his earth form fully I’d want a more MPM styled figure.

First and foremost, the sexy bounty hunter Lockdown! He’s my most anticipated of the three, mostly because he’s the only one who hasn’t hit retail here but also because my other Lockdown toy (the AOE) broke and is in DIRE need of a replacement. Don’t worry Mr. Gunfaced Gorilla, you’d make a great Shadow Raider stand-in plus I still love you for your facegun ;)

    Robot Mode
Out of package my first impression was WOW what an awesome figure! His sculpting is perfect head to toe, his articulation is surprisingly good despite his kibble (on a side note, the door arms didn’t bother me at all despite me being hugely opposed to door arms), and his good selection of weapons make him both a fantastic display piece and a great toy to mess around in your spare time.

I love the tiny details the designers fit into this figure. The CGI accurate rotating wheel piece and pop-up chest in particular. I also think they did quite well at compressing that sandwich of a backpack.
    6C00D70D-8EEB-4E3F-B31F-5873C1BDEDF3.jpeg

He’s got a few flaws. First of all, the kibble, holy hell look at that backpack! I get that his CGI didn’t make sense to begin with, but with toys like Stinger and Evasion Prime proving that idea wrong I wish the designers tried a bit more.
    E8A194E9-062A-4378-B036-690BCC80411F.jpeg

Secondly, his transformation. From the get go I immediately noticed how he ripped off much of Cogman’s . Despite so the engineering works well and isn’t that bad to be honest, not as much as AOE Lockdown.
    F9194C87-90CF-482C-A5C5-438A0C9BDEBB.jpeg

A slot for AOE Lockdown’s face cannon would’ve also been nice but at that point I’d be whining too much.
    0FC9770C-765C-4059-83AA-4B92929DB595.jpeg

His size was disappointing too, he struggles to reach Ratchet’s height and looks like a puny threat to both my Primes. Wasn’t he 4ft taller than Ratchet? I’m sure a small size increase wouldn’t hurt.
    564FC5DC-ED9A-4FE9-A4AA-ADFFE8FCCC68.jpeg

Great robot mode with several glaring flaws but overall fun and detailed nevertheless.

    Vehicle Mode
Now onto vehicle mode. Vehicle mode was a bit tough at first, but I slowly got the hang of it and oh my is that one gorgeous Lamborghini!
    7931A769-211D-490E-951B-F47A42CDC61F.jpeg

The sculpting looks perfect overall, unlike the AOE this Aventador not only gets the color scheme right but also has wait for it... side windows! Yes!
    114F0A43-96B2-4E96-B59A-EF53635E69CB.jpeg

They also got the paint right this time and that’s a gigantic plus! Still can’t comprehend why Hasbro people in 2014 agreed to give Lockdown that coffee latte color scheme.

I can’t think of a flaw for this vehicle mode. The AOE’s vehicle was the saving grace of an otherwise awful toy, but this one took all that made it great and made them even better.

Perfect vehicle mode without any noticeable flaws.

    Final verdict
I’ve waited almost a year for this guy. From SS’s toy fair reveal in February to December as I write this post. Was it worth it? Hell yes! If you want fun and accuracy at an affordable price he’s an absolute must!

With Hot Rod being this big and inaccurate I might as well call him Rodimus

Thanks for checking out my review!

I disagree, I liked that it turned into the g1 style struck and his robot mode still looked like movie Optimus. Especially the repaints that made it more accurate. This one is basically a g1 Optimus, only small differences make it a movie version. I think the aoe one was more clever and the transformation was fun.

Because as good as the first SS Prime was, he was very inaccurate, which is why we're getting the second one that's coming. That and he will also combine with Jetfire. And also, as others have already mentioned, it's a different version of Prime, with a new transformation.

I say just get him now, and then buy the one for the solo movie too. You can never go wrong with having too many Primes.

Man it seems like some people forgot to check the thread title. This is the movieverse toys appreciation thread. Not the "shit on movie toys cause they're slightly inaccurate or the QC is bad" thread.

Agreed! People tend to forget as the movie verse hasn't been the most loved franchise out of the others. Influence from others will cause changes to people...
Anyways, after 3 months of searching, I finally got SS18 BEETLEBEE and Energon igniters Speed series Optimus Prime. Just in time before I watch the movie tomorrow morning!

So should I get studio series VW bee? I’m a bit hesitant but the movie and the new prime have been really intriguing me.
