Yeah, I understand that but I know that some fans didn’t even find out about this piece until Sentinel had closed the preorders so it would be cool if they got a chance to own a set too. Unfortunately, it doesn’t seem like something Sentinel would probably get around to doing.
How is that even possible though unless they just plain found out about the Devolution G1 after release? They advertised the piece and the upgrade parts simultaneously the whole time everywhere. And I'm certainly not posting this for the sake of arguing because as a consumer I've missed out on things and hated it but at the same time working with companies and even just observing I've seen time and time again companies get into the habit of releasing things as exclusives somewhere and then throwing them up for mass public order and training the customers to just wait/de-prioritize their stuff feeling that they'll be available whenever they want to purchase it later and leaving the company just sitting on inventory until it has to be clearanced out. It's refreshing to see limited or made to order runs actually be that because we don't really get it anymore.
Well I missed the parts because at the time my Sentinel Shin Getter was broken in half and I was in a very "screw Sentinel" mode. By the time the preorder popped up it was 150 shipped and I was on the fence even ordering the new getter. Life happens and I turn around and preorders for the parts were closed. I'm obviously just going to have to pay the aftermarket tax.
The good thing about Sentinel exclusives is that they make them available for international shipping unlike Bandai and their stupid webshop.
RyuuMaru releases next week so merry Xmas to me. My Getter D and Ryuu upgrades are shipping together and I was told that they will be going out on or around the 27th so won't be here until early into January which is fine.
Hey Kuma, I totally get what you’re saying I just think they made the exclusive something that is too essential (the Getter’s current form) for a fan of the actual manga. I work in PD and sometimes I design figurines and I want as many people to be able to enjoy that work as possible. I collect because I like the source material not for any resale value. I couldn't care less about that. Honestly, I think Sentinel should have included all of these parts, plus the Getter Eagle. The exclusive could have been a Ryoma figurine or the severed torso of the first Devolved The Getter faced in the preview.
- I agree that it was a really bizarre choice to make the parts separate but while they were exclusive to the D4Toys site they were still available to anyone who wanted to purchase them for months. It's not equivalent to them only selling them at ToySoul or something (heck, this year the convention exclusives were available online too, even.) - I understand what you're saying in terms of wanting as many people to enjoy the work as possible but no matter what, things are going to sell out and there are always going to be those people who chose not to buy when it was available and ask for a re release even if something sat in stock and the person avoided it for a year. I'm not really sure what talking about resale value has to do with anything so I don't know what to say to that. - It would have been awesome if the parts were included; in fact, I'd have much preferred it. But it looks like Sentinel has taken into account the "overpriced" complaints that they get with every release under every brand they produce for and have started giving customers options of piecemealing to make their things more available to those with different spending limits or collecting/display preferences. For example; personally I'm going to enjoy photographing the current look of Getter D Getter 1 but looking at the wingspan and axe length I know for certain I won't be able to display it that way on my detolf shelf with the other Sentinel Getters and pilot figures. If someone had the same mindset and didn't have the task/privilege of promoting said look to the fandom I wouldn't blame them for just going with the straight Getter 1 piece and not buying the additional stuff. Not everyone likes a bunch of accessories that aren't useful and that's another reason why they weren't produced in the same quantitiy as Getter 1 itself. Again, I'm certainly not arguing with you and between RJ and now here I absolutely love talking to you (you're seriously a great poster with awesome insight,) but just playing devil's advocate on this one because I get both sides of the coin.
It's all good, I'm just happy to have some folks to discuss my hobby with! I like getting into these types of conversations about figures and the industry. And you bring up a lot of good points to boot. I just wish I could talk to Sentinel's Product Development and Marketing teams and convince them to make the other two Devolution Getters.
Yea, man. I love complete sets but the Getter 2s and 3s just don't sell for whatever reason from any company. That's why so many will include extras (for getter 1) when purchasing the other two. It sucks and it's not just limited to Getter Robo when it comes to side robots. Hell, look at Bandai and literally 1 SoC Boss Borot for the 50 Mazingers. Maybe one day they could do a made to order run of the xT-Rex styled Getter 2 and 3 to test the market and go from there?
Yeah, Getter 2 and 3 have never gotten enough love, much less boss. The pilots themselves hardly ever get figures either. Maybe starting with the models would get the ball rolling, who knows?
Yea, I truly don't know... but I'm with you that I'm hoping that at very least the Armageddon 2 and 3 get some nice, diecast love. ---------------------------------- Finally got started on the gallery for Getter D G1. Just a test pic and let me know what you guys think:
Alright, so looks like everything's set for both the review and gallery to go up tomorrow morning, which is awesome. This is a sweet piece:
Noice!! This design just looks imposing, right? Nice picks Kuma! Glad to hear the figure is measuring up.
Ryuumaru delayed even farther which I don't mind but unfortunately it delays the shipping of the metal jacket for it and in turn my Getter D. G1 upgrades shipping with it.
The full review and gallery for Sentinel's Getter Devolution Getter 1 is up! Please check out my Signature for the link (if on mobile, switch to landscape mode to view signatures.) This one got a very easy ten as it;s just impeccable from top to bottom. The article breaks it down piece by piece but overall it's awesome and gets a strong recommendation from me. Here are a few pics from the gallery portion:
