Just do what Venom did and make it like Bumblebee is the best alien boyfriend you could ask for. Instant cash money, yo'.

Not happening, Aquaman is crushing it in China right now ($172M as of this week?). It will be taking a major portion in other markets too.

    YouTube (Legacy):
It would make Bumblebee the most profitable Transformers film ever. That's not going to happen. It will make a profit, but it's unreasonable to think it will make that much money.

Ah, thought he was talking about Aquaman since he didn't specify a film.

Seeing how Transformers is a phenomenon over at China I expect it to make more than Spider-Man and Aquaman.

Then how do you explain the massive box office plummet from AOE to TLK?

I don't know. I thought the series continually did well over there.

The lack of any act involving China, which made all the Chinese product placement awkward to see in America
The confusing Arthurian plot which is disinteresting to Chinese audiences
No Chinese stars (i.e. Li Bingbing)

It didn't in the case of TLK because how little Prime was in it.

I think what ultimately killed the movie is the marketing . There were issues with the marketing as described by Forbes with regards to a lack of robot on robot action and instead the movie was trying to sell itself on some weird mythology. Plus remember that 'fight like a girl' ad? I sure do.

No good word of mouth was happening at the time of release as well (in contrast to Bumblebee) and with ads promoting 'from director Michael Bay', which became a bit of a bad business strategy.

Bumblebee isn't trying to sell itself as the same old thing rather its trying to reinventing itself as a character piece rather than an ensemble where you expect someone like Optimus to be front and centre.

He's just as popular as Optimus Prime overseas. Plus it's a January release in mainland China and John Cena is actually pretty big there.

I don't believe Optimus is needed all the time. That's like saying that Aquaman needs a Superman or Batman appearance to make itself stand out.
