Are there any good sized articulated hands that fit in a 5mm hole? There are parts on shapeways to fill a combiner port and have 5mm ports on them

The "stem" of the mushroom peg in the KFC hands is about 5mm. But you don't get the "head" of the mushroom that keeps it on.

I took more photos of the stumps and the whole process involved in grinding his hands down to mushroom pegs that would fit the KFC black MP10 hands.

Got this kit last week and put it together a couple days ago. I've done a lot of customs with pin removal and replacement, but this one was pretty frustrating by comparison. It took a 2nd person, a pin punch, a hammer, and a lot of clamps to get the abdomen to hold together enough for the pin to slide back in without damaging that little hasp holding the combiner pelvis. Just FYI for those fighting with this.

That said, he's a real beauty when finished and surprisingly huge even compared to my other Leader class bots.

Finally got this guy in last night. The box it came in was larger than I thought it would be.
The plastic quality of the kit feels good, and the instructions are pretty clear.

    Using the included screw driver:
    1205181920.jpg
Opened the legs up and installed the feet, which that alone adds some height.

    1205181946.jpg

Then removed the long pin holding the upper body and the legs together. Tapped it out till I could grab the knurled end with pliers. Went pretty smooth.

    1205182051.jpg
Opened the upper thighs and added the thigh extensions and the new ratchets. Used included new screws.
    1205182058.jpg
    Primes got gams now.

This part gave me hell. 2 of the pins broke seperating it, and the new waist piece holes were too thin to push the short punch pin back into place. I had to use a 5/64th drill pit to enlarge the holes on the new piece. Then I had to press everything together and inserted a smaller pin to align the holes. I then installed the factory pin, driving it in with some force and pushing out my alignment pin through the other side for removal.

After much banging, tapping, frustration and stranger than normal looks from my wife. Optimus nova gam prime can stand again. And he looks pretty good just like this!

    1205182310.jpg
Chest piece and wing assembly were a breeze to assemble.
    1205182314.jpg

I skipped the step to rotate optimus head back inside the body, at this point the replacement nova head was installed in place of the normal combiner head. I had it tucked back under the rear cab halves as I installed the wings. So I had to unhook them from the smoke stacks to fix that. Since I wasnt paying attention!

The finished product makes me happy. The struggle was real for that waist piece, but worth it in the end. Now he is Nova Prime. And thats cool. Cuz being a bad guy, doesnt mean he is a bad guy. And thats good. Ciao.

Yeah, that part was awful for me too. I finally used the long pin I removed when I did the Vitalis kit, so I could control more of the push for it, and just cut it so he's now got more pin than needed if you bother to look back there.

I pulled the trigger on one of these today, although i do prefer the Beezleboss kits but they may not put out theirs anytime soon.

Wouldn't it have been easier to use a double ended 5mm peg?

Finally started on this, got the first leg easily to install the feet. Started second leg and the frustration began. Used the exact same size screwdriver and now the screws are stripped and haven't been able to remove the second leg. Any advice on how to remove the stripped screws?

Try and put a rubber band in the screw it adds a good grip and works a lot if the time. If that fails you can try a very small drill bit and try and drill it out.

    It's always the 2nd leg.

I'm halfway through, but the new pelvis parts make the legs extremely loose and wobble around. Can I do something to keep them tight?

They shouldn't be doing that. Are the screws tight enough? (Not too too tight though) Which direction are they wobbling?

The replacement hip ratchets on mine shredded against the tooth. Now they are floppy as all hell. Gonna try to go back to the stock ratchets and see if they work a little better.

All directions, but I assume you mean both left and right. He couldn't stand properly without flopping. It only happens when I work the waist where the hip ratchets are after trying putting in new screws from the kit bag. I can reuse the factory ones, but they are a bit messed up and I risk stripping them completely .

I was curious because if it was loose going forward and backwards it could be the new ratchets installed wrong. Left to right though not sure. The SND screws work very well for me and I'd absolutely stay away from tye stock screws. Are the front and back haves of the crotch piece sitting flush?

Related/Unrelated I absolutely reccomend these as well.

He's already tight before the mod, so the problem seems to lie in screwing in everything super tight. Not sure if the ratchet upgrades from the kit will help immensely, but I'm too far done to go back on the weathered Hasbro screws on the thighs to swap them.

Good news is that the waist is mostly finished, but before I move on I will double check if it's all ok. All the waist screws are in, and under some tests the legs "mostly" stay still".

The left leg is fine being up with the right leg supporting it. But...
    20190102_172859.jpg
The right leg coming up being supported by the left leg needs to be held by the waist so that it doesnt fall down. Doing a forward crunch with both legs seems to be good though.

Its how unsteady one side is that's bugging me, and I swear everything's screwed in.

I finally put my Nova Prime together just before the holidays. I haven't put him in combiner mode yet, but here's what we got so far. This is SND's Primo X-Mortis upgrade kit for CW Battle Core Optimus Prime:

Man, this thing was a pain in the butt! It probably took me 2 days and maybe 6 hours to put this together. There are two tiny metal pins that go through his torso that had to be hammered out. This is definitely a delicate, two man operation to hammer those little pins out. And those tiny screws that had to come out? I stripped one on the back of his butt and had to go to Lowe's to find a bit small enough where I could drill that thing out. But, that was kind of cool and made this feel more like a man project. I was definitely happy with the end result.

Also, I had the reprolabels set already applied underneath, so you might notice some of those labels here and there. Not that you would need reprolabels for this set, as most of the labels that he had on them were covered up by all of the apparatus that was attached. Nova Prime is now definitely the star of my collection!

Basically... the Reprolabels are only useful for the shoulder and forearm bits. I imagine the car windows getting a decent tint would be nice, but as a whole, maybe it's only worth finding a set of Ancient Autobot decals for the shoulders, and add nothing else.

That TFCC Nova was a missed opportunity to beef up with a trailer like the Maketoys Tanker. Either that, or an upscaled version of that mold with wings. That Generations Orion Pax mold was fantastic, if a bit tiny for a bit, and inaccurate for Pax.

Totally agree! I would love to see a trailer power-up for TFCC Nova and Pax!
