I want 30 minutes of that Cybertron scene.

That was amazing. Not worth the 10 year wait, but we have to take whatever scraps Lorenzo and Bay deem soggy enough to throw us.

I loved seeing Prime's face plate stay closed and I wished Bumble could get one.

Yeah, it\'d be Egotistical to think you could pull of a character who\'s some sort of living planet.  Why I bet you couldn\'t even do it if the movie was about some people who are guardians, maybe of their galaxy.

I bet that might actually BE the entire reason Unicron was involved in TLK. Everything about TLK screamed 'sad attempt at trying to ape the MCU' so to include the biggest threat they could - Unicron - in such a small-ass way almost trying to ape the original Thanos reveal stinger from Avengers is just showing the people in charge are throwing whatever they can at the wall. And none of it sticks because the plot structure just is not there to support it.

And it's because Lorenzo and the other morons still at Paramount can't wrap their heads around the idea that you can make characters out of purely CGI constructs. They have to keep shoving humans in your face. They have to make human drama more important than actually giving a viewpoint of a war involving robots from the viewpoint of the actual robots. Humans are necessary to give context of the whole transforming/disguise factor but that should be the limit for most of the interaction. Humans should be no different than, I dunno, some goddamn cattle grazing on a milk farm purely as set dressing.

In fact, that's something I've been seeing increasingly as of late - the defense that the films are actually vehicles for displaying man's apparent chronic assole-ness to basically anything alive, namely the Autobots (while the Decepticons consistently get off scott free until the film remembers who is actually supposed to lose every time), to the point the Transformers films apparently sound like they are bad imitations of DISTRICT 9. Which I would watch if I actually wanted that kind of drama. Transformers should be about the fucking robots, full stop, not how much sex Cade Yeager isn't getting while being a fucking Mary Sue Knight whatever. You want something unique? How about humans as seen by the Transformers themselves? Wouldn't that be interesting, the portrayal of our own species through the filter of one decidedly different yet also somewhat similar.

But no, apparently risk taking with stuff like that is asking too much, and so they stick to the same bullshit about humans basically being little better than Nazis to non-humans. Even though Transformers taking a Nacirema angle to looking at humanity would be far more interesting when told from their perspective, instead of humans through a human perspective.

To be fair, Ego was heavily reimagined to work for that movie, with only one scene on screen of his planet form. I really don't think TF fans want such a reimagining for Unicron, or would be happy with just a Unicron who spends the whole movie walking around as his Kurt Russell-bot avatar.

So like prime’s Unicron. Where he had a bunch of miniatures of him but none of them were his true form.

Ha ha, that is kinda weak. Honestly the concept of a reboot is not rocket science.

And yet nobody here has realized that he is making more money than most of us while making those statements. And that nobody here has also realized that somebody smart enough to obtain his position in said industry is also smart enough to feign ignorance on said subject. It's just those who know that the word has two purposes to that topic, and he knows which version the studio is aiming for tends to be more of a Psychology 101 thing than rocket science.

But then again... He has all the information in regards to the film franchise's future. We don't. And that should be the #1 clue when it comes to things that are not "rocket science". :popcorn

    Not?
Unicron is a threat that should be faced by a larger cast than Herbie and his buddy.
Lorenzo hasn't got a clue if he thinks scify should be "relatable" or that Unicron shouldn't be touched.
But it's senseless to think about Unicron now. Unless they still want to do the sequel to tlk.
If they are starting a new story Unicorn should only be talked about after at least a handful more movies.

I hate the Bay movies, and wont spend any money on them, and wont show them to my kids, with that said, rebooting is a bad idea IMVHO, they need to continue the current continuity, just start making good movies from here on out. If they did good movies from here on out then I could take the bay movies as just some bad episodes like the original g1 cartoon had ( Carnage in C minor anyone?)

Lorenzo just sounds like an idiot. I hate when guys like him have a strangle hold on a franchise.

What continuity though? There's no one solid line through the Bayverse. In TF1, Megatron was looking for the Allspark when he crashed on Earth. I think he wanted to turn Earth's machines into an army? Then in TF2, they decided he was actually looking for the Allspark to bring his baby transformer army to life, that just happened to be hanging out on like Saturn this whole time. And then, TF3 decided both of those movies were irrelevant because was Megatron was ACTUALLY doing was meeting up with Sentinel to use his pillars to blah, blah, blah, we know the plot. In DOTM, it took a space bridge to get Cybertron to Earth. In TLK, it just magically flew on it's own. Even though it completely disintegrated at the end of DOTM. There are way to many plot holes throughout the Bayverse to try and follow that continuity.

No one cares that you don't like Unicron, Lorenzo. You're free to not like him, it just shouldn't effect whether he appears in the films or not. Given the strides we've made in CGI there's absolutely nothing stopping him from appearing.

That was a clever rethinking of Unicron for Prime, but I think generally people would still prefer the huge planet eating version from '86.

Nothing except the budget, and I believe the main point of saying Unicron is too big is because Hasbro and Paramount aren't looking to spend almost a billion dollars just to make a single Transformers movie anymore, at least not until they build the franchise back up again with these smaller (and cheaper) pictures like Bumblebee.

Eh. Speaking as someone whose most abiding fondness for years was G1, my preferred take on Unicron would have been rather...different than either the G1 or PRIME versions, but that's just me.

While Unicron was never one of the most well written antagonists in fiction, saying you don't like him because he's unrelatable is like saying Cthulhu sucks because he's unrelatable: it's entirely missing the character's point. While Unicron's always been a lot more clearly evil entity comparedy to the Great Tentacled One, they both are figures that can supposedly overwhelm all their protagonists with fear (and insanity in the R'lyeh dweller's case) with their sheer, barely comprehensible presence alone instead of being able to empathize with them. Relatability is a great trait for a fictional character, but it's not the only one that can make one good or interesting. I for one would be all up for a more Cthulhuesque Unicron that represents the uncaring nature of the cosmos compared to which all life seems miniscule and inconsequential.
