This guy night be right. It was a good movie, the first good TF movie, but I left the theatre feeling defeated, maybe it was because in the very beginning of the movie I had to contend with some stupid lady shining her phone next to me, even with Paramount warning her.

So I missed Wheeljack and Acree. But if they were actually in the movie that wouldn't have been as much of an issue. Honestly I've lost my appetite to see movies in the theatre, but he's right after 11 years we got 7 minutes.

Well an Optimus Prime movie would be nice ...
Although i am not seeing Bumblebee until Sunday I am already sad to see Travis Knight go . Even the trailers have been better than any movie i have watched this year .

It is sad to see him go. Maybe he will reconsider. At the same token if he does leave, the fact they are looking for a director for Optimus Prime tells me that what Travis Knight established, more G1 centric approach, and writing which leaves critics giving positive marks, will be strong considerations in future films.

I'm happy for the guy. It seems like Bumblebee was a great experience for Knight to grow as a director, and it clearly taught him some lessons that he can apply to his animation studio. Knight is one of the few directors that I've actually taken notice of and really admire his work. Granted he has only done two movies but I think both of them will speak to his abilities as a director.

If he wants to return to his company to make more movies like Kubo, I'm all for it!

... were it Michael Bay, I'd say he's holding out for more money, but someone with apparent integrity may feel they've already said everything they wanted to say in one movie. Massive independent wealth also doesn't hurt.

I just hope Paramount/Hasbro don't just rush ahead with the next one until they have someone who can maintain that standard.

Obviously, I haven't seen this, yet, but I have been enthusiastic about this movie since the announcement of Knight as a director. I thought Bay's first TF film was nearly unwatchable trash and the snippets I've seen of the others didn't change my opinion that he's a hack who never cared about these characters. The bot designs aren't what killed those movies. It was the awful scripts (made worse by Bay's constant meddling) and Bay's insistence on turning the characters into dudebro kaiju who barely spoke.

I welcome G1 design aesthetics but they are by no means required for me to enjoy the film. Things change when going from one medium to another. What works in comics may not work on film and the same goes for badly done children's animation. Let's not pretend the 80s cartoon had deep characterization that must be adhered to. As for bot design, Dropkick and Shatter (and, hell, Bumblebee) proved that the Bayformer style can work if you have a capable Captain piloting the ship.

I stand by assertion that the Bayformer films were terrible because of Micheal Bay and as long as we keep his splosion-addicted, casually racist self away, there's a fighting chance that we could get some fun live action movies out of this. That said, I do wish Hasbro would give him a GI Joe film, as I feel confident that would be a perfect fit.

There needs to be an Optimus Prime movie while we still have Cullen with us. With the design he has in Bumblebee, of course.

At the risk of sounding rude, this entire comment is pretty much proof that most G1 fans will never be happy. You want straight up G1? Go watch the cartoon series and the movie. Expecting everything, more specifically the live action films, to be straight up G1 at this point is kind of foolish. Make no mistake. I’m not saying G1 shouldn’t be present or ever used again. There should be elements of it. But given that this franchise is 35 years old and the robots have gone through different redesigns and iterations, there is more to this franchise than just G1. I’m being sincere when I say that I’m sorry you got burned by the overmarketing of the Cybertron scenes. However, it shouldn’t be a surprise. It was pretty obvious that those scenes were only going to make up a very minuscule portion of this film.

Travis Knight should at least be the kevin feige of the rebooted Transformers live-action franchise. i was hoping he'd still be the director of at least 2 more sequels.
