If only Badcube could've hidden those forearm windows like TT did.

 

My big issue is that I have MP Sideswipe already, so it's taking me forever to get around to replacing him with this guy. While an improvement over MP-12 (IMO), he's not a "gotta get him now" figure for me, so I keep telling myself I'll get him at a later date.  

 

Did anyone ever make a larger head or Face for this guy? I think its damn near flawless except for the tiny head and face, want him but need an upgrade option

If not, does anyone know how I might go about fixing it? would a 3d scan/enlarge/print be feasible?

 

if you want him to still transform then the head can only be marginally bigger. The space (width) for his head in alt mode is just a touch bigger that his head. It is doable but I am not sure if it will make much of a difference...I think it's something like a 1/4 of an inch give or take.

to fix it you would have to be able to do some 3d design. Make his head to the right size specifications, get that shit 3d printed, test it out, make adjustments, print it out and so on and so on. I would do it, but I aint a 3d moddeler....

 

do you think I might be able to make some cuts where the face plate sits to fudge a larger face in? that way the head can stay the same size with no interference?

 

Honestly the easiest way to tell is to pop the hood open when he is in at mode. There you will see the limitations or the possibilities. I don't currently have any of my copies in alt mode so I can't quickly have a look. I can later today tho...

 

For anyone on the fence about Badcube Sideswipe and Red Alert, get them. I was against them and thought they were a waste of time and money, I couldn't have been more wrong. Get them. NOW!

 

He's an ok figure, but not great IMO. I have very mixed feelings.

The head/face is ugly, and the the crazy hollow knees where I can see a huge swath of daylight through them are really off-putting. But the alt mode is really nicely done. If you're desperate for something ultra-toony to go with MP streaker (who I also find really ugly), then Steamroll's a no-brainer buy. If you already have MP-12 and don't hate him the way some people seem to, then this figure is an easy pass.

Sideswipe is probably my favorite G1 character, so I don't mind buying multiple versions of him and interesting alternate takes, but under any other circumstances, I'd probably regret this purchase. Certainly glad I skipped the BC Red Alert. MP-12 will definitely keep his place in my '84 display.

That being said, I hope reprolabels makes a sticker set for Steamroll with some toy-style walter wolf livery.

It’s a design choice to match the animation model, which has the windows in the same place.

 

I wouldn't wait too long. Remember when Badcube's Brawny eventually dried up? Collector's who were late to the game were running helter skelter trying to find one only to be faced with either "out of stock" statuses or hefty markups from scalpers. I'd get it now if you can. You can always sell it later if you decide you don't want it.

 

Sideswipe is our x-mas tree topper this year...

On the fence about selling off my mp12 and getting this guy... But my god since noticing his face I'm now unsure again. Although mp12 won't be winning any sideswipe lookalike contests anytime either!

 

It’s much better in person. I had the same qualms about MP sunstreaker, I even kept Omnigonix’s head to put on him!

I have both Steamroll and Recon and I'm very happy with them.
I still have my Takara MP Sideswipe and Red Alert. I'm happy with them as well.
They all have their unique strengths.

 

I ended up getting Recon with 15% off and baba's extra discount on eBay since I didn't have a Red Alert.

I am willing to get Steamroll if I'm happy with my purchase, but are the faces between the two interchangeable?
