The fact that these guys switch modes for absolutely no reason, since they could've just flown up to the humans, is also a bad sign. Reeks of "just do this because it's cool" rather than a narrative purpose. Between the still messy transformations and this, I'm getting that sinking feeling I got watching the first film.

I'm going to wait for reviews before catching this.

 

Not really. They're clearly splicing multiple sources and scenes together or at the very least cutting out bits. How many people were convinced Blitzwing dropping Bumblebee was the climax to their fight based on the trailers?

The movies have firmly established that the point of having an Earth mode is to perfectly replicate that vehicle. (and honestly what would be the point if they didn't?) If Triple Changers had any sort of realism to their transformations, one of both alt modes would be compromised visually. Which kind of ruins the point. There's no way you can make a jet turn into a car without it looking ridiculous or unconvincing in some way, so they just went for the established bullshitty Bay-style transformations. (albeit more clear and fun to watch)

I don't think you know what a "bad sign" is.

This is clearly to demonstrate to the audience that they're triple-changers, without confusion or doubt.That's like saying Blitzwing going from jet to robot to tank in the 86 movie was a "bad sign" because he didn't go straight from jet to tank.

 

I love dropkick period

 

It's actually quite considerate of them to do so. Going from the aerial modes to cars avoids any risk of bringing active helicopters/jets too close to the humans, whilst also coming off as less intimidating to their audience.

Meanwhile, a jerk like Starscream would just swoop in and land right in front of them, knocking people down and whipping sand up everywhere  

 

Mmmmm...they both have more character in one frigging scene than every other con has in the entire franchise. Better yet, they’re not just stupid characatures. Both have distinct personalities, but still come off as extremely threatening.

 

The helicopter isn’t blue in the movie, it’s the same off-grey as the SS figure. That’s dropkick’s cybertronian mode that lacks the helicopter bits.

 

And reserved. They act like normal people. If Bay had done that scene, here's exactly how Dropkick would've reacted:

"AY, YO, watchu doin' man? Oh, oh man come one, aw man why I gotta do this man you gotta be kiddin' me..."

 

Angela Bassett sure as hell wouldn't be voicing Shatter either.

I can't speak for others, but my point wasn't about defending Drift. Mine (and I'm sure others share this with me) was about correcting the article because it's factually inaccurate. Just pointing out that A triple changer existed prior to these two in the movies is just correcting a clear error on the writer's part.

 

It's pretty sad when Shatter and Dropkick here have more characterization in this one scene than every single Decepticon had in the previous five movies combined.
