I'm with you on this. I'm not raging or calling Takara greedy or anything like that. I could save up money to buy MP44, so I can technically "afford" it. But everyone has an intuitive limit to what they're willing to pay for any particular product. MP's have been stretching more and more towards that limit for me, and they've exceeded the limit w/ BW Megatron and MP44.
I'm still very excited to see how this guy turns out and to watch reviews as they come in. I'll be happy for those who do choose to get him.

    It's really simple.

It's rather rude to even ask...

I suppose it is all subjective. For me I don't really mind paying extra for something I have wanted for so long. A true masterpiece of my favorite character. It all boils down to whether or not you can justify the price in your own mind. It is a hefty price tag to be sure. If I can pay less I would certainly jump on it. Also factors would include whether or not you are happy with mp-10. Some are. I always felt the figure was lacking. The 3rd party options are also quite nice. Non however truly captured the sunbow look. Mp-44 is going to be my definitive prime. Some also sell off figures they may no longer want to help finance their purchase. I hope this helps. I'm always open to a mature discussion:)

FML ... I placed my second order with AJ. My price came to $320. Not as cheap as DeamML’s current price , but still cheaper then any domestic preorder price .

    *Edit* , ok , so it’s actually $307.00 . Ok , I feel much better lol.

I do not know about shipping to US, but to Europe it is cost almost nothing and every package from AE has not been stopped by customs.

    So if I have interest in this MP-overpriced, I guess I will pay around $330 - $340.

I really like the way MP-44 looks. Based on how much I enjoy MP-36, I think I'll really enjoy MP-44. I've come around to the aesthetics and articulation changes Takara has made to the line, and it looks like they've surpassed MP-36 and MP-39 in terms of likeness, articulation, and how well the robot mode cleans up. Prime's one of my favorite characters, so I'm willing to go down the rabbit hole on this one. But this might be the only one I'm willing to take a chance on at this price point. Even if it does blow me away, I don't know if there are many other characters I'd be willing to drop this kind of cash on. I'll definitely be hesitant to do this again if there are any kind of QC issues such as breakages or paint chipping. I'm paying top of the line, so that's what I'm expecting.

I don't blame anyone for thinking it's not worth the price. It's your money and your collection. You should do what's best for your budget and your collection goals. MP-44 is the Optimus I want in my MP collection, I can make it work with my budget, so I'm buying it. And I can't wait. Posing MP-44 with MP-36 is going to be awesome. So many options, so much display potential.

I paid for mine on AE but I've noticed a lot of posts saying the price from Japanese retailers is still dropping, which is great.

If the price drops on AE (I havent checked if it has) will I get refunded the difference, or the extra put towards shipping, or am I locked into the price I paid?

    Thanks in advance guys.

You'll be locked in. That's the risk of paying now if you think the yen won't go up or wait to see if the yen goes down and not up.

How about the simple fact ppl can do what they want with their own money? That's it. If you choose not to buy that's fine too.

Just because YOU think it's overpriced doesn't mean everyone does. That's the bottom line.

Dinobot is irrelevant to me, not interested at all. I don't care if it's $10 or $1000, I'll buy what I like and I suggest others should do the same instead of worrying about what others do with their money.

My reasons - pretty much the same. I'd probably throw in that for me personally, the utility (i.e., the economic concept of utility) I'll get from this is still relatively high even at $300+.

I'm also a G1 MP collector, and have not bought an MP since sunstreaker, so there's that.

Of course all of these people like myself who are comfortable with $300+ shipped from Amazon jp may feel differently come october of next year if the US is in the throws of a recession and the yen-dollar exchange plummets in favor of the yen. Hopefully that doesn't happen, but it's something to consider.

Thats where I am, too. AE has never let me down and I've never been charged VAT/customs fees, but I'm just a little nervous with MP-44. AE declare a peanuts value, like 1500 JPY or something, and also state what it is, e.g. 'Takara Tomy MP-39'. Just a little nervous if they declare so low on MP-44's big heavy box it might arouse suspicion, then there's all the info they need to look up it's true value. NY is a bit cheaper and EB said they give a generic declaration like 'Action figure toy'. I'd be happy if AE would declare generically and a slightly more believable price like 5000 JPY or something. Might ask them.

Then again AJ is looking so low, and shipping so cheap, that it's not looking too much more than AE/NY even with the VAT/customs fees. It's like insurance - pay 25-30 quid extra to ensure no risk of a 75-100 quid VAT/customs fees bill. Hmmmmm how lucky do I feel?

Why do you need a bunch of people from the internet to justify whether you should buy something or not. If you feel 310 is too expensive for it, then don't buy it. Personally although $310 is more than what I was expecting, but I don't think it's outrageous. Also I hate to break it to you but "cuz I like it and I can have it" is a perfectly valid response

To be honest, the preorder price isn't far from what I was expecting. I thought it would be $300 usd in the first place

Truthfully I was hoping for like the $275 ish range, so it's not that much over than what I was expecting.
