Man I fucking love wells thawne. Love him. Great episode but I loved the trip through time. So how or why is Future Thawne wearing Wells face? Was Matt just unavailable? What the hell is Nora up to?

I mean why space? Why not Earth 30 something? Or the dead one, whichever one that is. And I may be wrong, but shouldn’t their clothes be shredded when running at speed? Isn’t the point of wearing the costume to have something to wear that won’t be shredded by friction?

    I had the same thoughts.

That was perhaps the dumbest vibe we've ever seen. The Sun, Alpha Centuri, Earth 4, pretty much anywhere but locally!

It's funny how they pretty much have ignored the basic setups for the show; that this already was an alternate timeline created by Thawne to get home faster. That anyone going fast would have their clothes burn off without special materials. That Barry (and other speedsters) needed to consume a lot of food to keep up with their high energy expenditures. That the Speedforce and the Meta Darkmatter are somehow the same.

That said, until the last act, it was actually pretty enjoyable in a few ways. Though it felt overly obvious
that Future Thawne was behind Nora's actions and why it was a Wells face in the cell instead of the other one

    5x08 – What's Past is Prologue

    - LaMonica Garrett and John Wesley Shipp in the beginning title credits?

    - First TPTB bring in Thomas Wilson (Biff from Back To The Future) to guest star in DC’s Legends of Tomorrow, now Ralph plays “Back In Time” by Huey Lewis and The News before Barry and Nora run (for lack of a better phrase) back in time!

    - Time Wraith incoming!

    - Nora must have been horrified to see that a future time remnant of her father is the infamous Savitar!

    - The Time Wraith pursues Barry but not Nora?

    - Whoa! Zoom confronts present-day Barry and Nora and gets his ass handed to him by that Time Wraith before two more turn him into the Black Flash!

    - Jesse Chambers (and Lawrence) and Danica Williams name-dropped by past Eobard Thawne!

    - So Eobard knows about Cicada! Go figure!

    - Nora about to pet a pre-accelerator explosion Grodd. Unwise move!

    - So Nora is the fifth recruit of the rebooted Legion of Superheroes? More proof that Earth-1 and Earth-38 will merge in the future!

    - Seening all the events happening during the particle accelerator explosion (Ronnie transformed into energy, then heading straight towards Martin Stein holding the Firestorm Matrix, Clifford DeVoe struck by lightning from the explosion as he wore his Thinking Cap, Barry struck by the lightning bolt that would give him his super-speed, the Marden brothers plane struck by the explosion shockwave) was a sweet way to honor the series since it’s premiere!

    - Dr. Ambres treated Harrison Wells (Eobard Thawne) and Barry the night of the particle accelerator explosion? Oh, the enigma that is fate!

    - Cisco is back as Vibe and ready to take Cicada down! But it was Killer Frost that turned that tide against him!

    - In light of the fact that her power don’t come from dark matter, Killer Frost may very well be the trump card that Team Flash holds against Cicada!

    - So the language that Barry wrote down after he emerged from the Speed Force last season and that is written in Nora’s journal is time language that Nora created to record events regardless of changes in the timeline? How did Barry learn it while inside the Speed Force and how did Sherloque correctly translate it? Which, by the way, is THE TIMELINE IS MALLEABLE. So that means that a speedster can rewrite time in a way that not even the Legends of Tomorrow and the Time Bureau can do?

    - Nora speeding back to when her grandparents (Nora and Henry Allen) were alive and secretly watching them happily together on the front porch of their house. Most lovely!

    - So Nora is acquainted with an imprisoned Eobard Thawne (who’s wearing Well’s face and has a Gideon interface in his cell) in 2049? Another suspicious facet of Nora that still makes me distrust her!

    - As predicted the same after-credit prelude scene for Elseworlds seen in this weeks new episodes of Supergirl and Arrow was seen in this episode of The Flash. The only small difference, the “Earth-90” was in “Flash” font.

Next week, The 2018 CW DC Crossover Elseworlds!

Is one of the Flash's kids evil? I am not up on Flash history so I dunno. If they aren't having Nora be a baddie then I reckon Thawne promised her he could bring Barry back in the future if she helps him with....whatever it is he is doing.

There are a lot of interesting details and mysterious details in this episode. To add to your notes:

    - Eobard, in spite of his knowledge about our future, does not recognize Nora as Barry's daughter! When he eventually does come to the conclusion that she's Barry's daughter, he guesses that she is "Dawn" (as in Dawn Allen)...

At this point, I started to wonder if she's "Nora" at all. However, Gideon seems to confirm that she is. I guess that technically "Nora" could be just another alias - Gideon is interrupted by Barry before she can finish divulging all she knows about Nora, and she could have intended to follow up with even more names. That seems unlikely though, as she mentioned "Nora" first of the names.

Just to raise a few theoretical points, we can note that Gideon never confirmed that she's actually Barry's daughter, nor did she get further than to say that she's a member of the Legion of... something - theoretically that leaves an opening for her to be an impostor, member of a totally different Legion, like the Legion of Super-Villains. I don't think that's likely though; I do think she's actually who she claims she is (or at least that's what she believes) - her reactions to both her parents and her grandparents ring too true to be a mere act.

    - But to continue on the topic of past Eobard, when he finds out that it was Nora's idea to use Savitar's suit, he calls her "clever girl". Later in the present, when Sherloque tries to interrogate Nora about her journal, and she claims that she invented the language, he calls her... "clever girl". A sheer coincidence? Unlikely. Not in a series like this one. Is there some kind of connection between Eobard Thawne and Sherloque Wells?
Here I have to ask: How do we actually know that Sherloque is who he says he is?

When Nora meets with the imprisoned Eobard (who appears to be a later version than past Eobard, as he is obviously familiar with Nora), he's wearing Wells' face... If he can use Wells' face on two separate occasions, why not three? Can Sherloque be another instance of Eobard Thawne? One in-between the other two.
Maybe it is after he learned about the details in Nora's journal in the present, that he decided to manipulate her in the future. And I think we're talking about manipulation here - Nora may have been working for Thawne in some capacity all this time, without realizing how dangerous he actually is. Earlier in the episode she actually suggests to Barry that they seek him out and ask him for help in repairing Zoom's device, and it is not until that meeting that she understands how much Barry hates him, and that he actually killed Barry's mother. This could be why, at the end of the episode, she decides to deliver her message in person this time, instead of just letting Gideon send it. "We need to talk", she says - she has learned truths about him that she weren't aware of before.

That's probably why he's the "one that got away" he's power/wound eventually killed him.

Well they were in the episode so why are you questioning them being credited?

That joke would of been funnier if Biff himself played that song when he went with the Legends to capture the Minotaur.

Why did the Time Wraith show up at all, they weren't even doing anything to change the time line and it never goes after Barry again after they first encounter it so what was the point?

    She didn't really seem surprised.

You said this already... how many times do we gotta talk about the time wraith... but I agree it doesn't make sense why it went after Barry but not Nora.

How did that not end up defeating Zoom early? That seems like they messed up there.

I don't know who those people are... well except for Jessie Quick being Earth 2 Wells daughter.

Well Eobard is from the future so of course he's going to know about all the villains Flash fights in the future.

I notice a lot of pre-explosion Metas there.

That doesn't mean Earth 1 and Earth 38 will merge. It just means that there's a version of the Legion of Superheroes on Earth 1. I really hope we see both interact with each other at some point because it's a little weird that there are no Earth 1 Dopplegangers on Earth 38 and vice versa.

    Yup.

I guess that explains why she hates Metahumans too. It was a little unclear why she was helping Cicada till now.

And then Cicada flys away scared because he can't dampen her powers.

    I just said that...

She didn't really discover anything we didn't already know. I mean we've seen the time line changed multiple times. That's all that sentence really means so why even bother showing us that like it was something new?

I thought she was going to try to change history again then Barry showed up and they just talked... this scene seemed boring and pointless. The conversation could of taken place in Star Labs there was no reason to go back here again.

I hate that they made Nora secretly evil... why the hell is she working with Thawn? Also how can he be wearing Wells face if he hasn't gone back in time to kill Nora yet? And how did the other Eobard not recognize her? Unless this is after we last saw him on Earth X... or maybe slightly before that because they never did explain how he got to Earth X.

Why are they showing this scene again? Would of been better if it continued from where the last one left off instead of showing the exact same scene. This should of just been shown here and not at the end of all the episodes because it fits better in the Flash for obvious reasons.

This episode could have been flawless. But some real stupidity happened again. But many parts were awesome. Wells as reverse flash gives me the chills.

So the robot is Amazo, this should be interesting. Looks like we aren't getting Smallville, but we did get the theme.

Ok, so part 1 was pretty damn good...

Am I crazy or did the actress playing Lois look quite a bit like a younger Margot Kidder?

And the theme! That was pure awesome! Knowing the producers, they know they have to keep putting in things that can top the previous events. They got John Wesley Shipp as 90s Flash, I’m sure someone on that crew is thinking about putting in the Smallville crew in a future event. I’d love to see a veteran Justice League ala the comic’s JSA from the Smallville universe.
