Personally, I'd suggest anyone take a good look at the upcoming Magic Square MP Prime for someone that wants something like this. He looks better proportioned, the head looks better too, and he's less then $130 IIRC. For something that's just gonna sit in a display cabinet out of the box, MS makes a very attractive option. Not for me, but it's nowhere near as close to insane like what Takara is offering.

You know, there's this belief among "highend" collectors that the more expensive something is means it's a "premium" collectable, kind of like the whole "Apple Tax" thing people use when talking about the price difference of Apple products. I fear Takara has jumped onboard that train.

    Fuck yes.

And then, I’ll get the reissue down the road as well, as I have zero doubts it’ll sell out.

This is the Prime I have always wanted. And it’s finally happening.

No amount of bitching from people I’ll never know in real life is going to take that away from me.

I am at a maybe on this piece, leaning towards a yes, (I own three constructors, box set green, v2 yellow box set, and orange, and may buy the weathered yellow) and a no, only thing I want is the prime and the ion blaster, everything else is a pass for me.

Cheap repaint or KO maybe, but not this wallet raping release. Hell. No.

I am not a slave to the brand that will pay whatever they ask, especially when there are other completely viable options.

A Masterpiece figure is not a toy. And I find it totally bizarre that an adult collector is posting in a collector forum about not wanting to put something in a display case......

MP-44+ will most likely cost at least $470 and come with less accessories going by MP-36+. So don’t hold your breath.

Compromising the sculpt, like for those butterfly joints, for "more articulation" does not a "collectable display piece" make. This is a hugely expensive glorified toy, not some statue or display piece.

Although I'm not above spending 450 for this, it doesn't feel like there are 450 dollars worth of improvements. I spent 299 on a SOC Volton and this doesn't look anything close to that level of craftsmanship.

It kind of reminds me of the GI Joe subscription service where GI joe's are going 50$. I remember when I paid 2.99 for them lol

I will say...yes. But only if there aren't many other MP offerings in 2019. I will have to pass up on some of the + upgrades to the car bits, for instance. Those can wait. MP44 will eat up about four months of budget.

But he sure looks amazing. I really, really hope that QC isn't an issue with him.

Undecided at the moment because OP is not one of my favorite characters but man, being a fan of the Sunbow era it's very tempting. Personally I'd rather spend the money on what I would consider the definitive version than less on sort of OK versions. I have a feeling that once this comes out all the fake OP figures from the IP thieves will become worthless.

Now that the Amazon Japan pre-orders are up, let's see who's honest enough to change their vote from Maybe/No to Yes.

$327 on Amazon Japan. Why preorder now? Is this piece really going to sell out months before release? This is Takara, they own their own factory, it's not 3rd party where 3rd party will produce a small run or a run based off of how much there previous pieces sold. I am going to wait at least until three months from release and for a better price to make my decision.

I love Optimus Prime, but there is no way I can justify spending so much on this, especially when he comes with so many accessories I do not give a damn about. Now, if he ever got released as just the figure and the gun, maybe the axe, I'd be down for that if it were significantly cheaper. But for now I'm happy with my TRU MP-10 I got for $100 which came with a trailer.

By PO'ing now, you are guaranteed the best price at AJ. If it drops (currency fluctuates) you get that price, if it goes up, you don't get that price.

And you can cancel w/o penalties. Even after the cutout date, you can request a cancellation directly to their wonderful CS.

I bid you good luck on finding a better pricing three months after release.

    fwiw,

Really highly doubt that "$327" pricing will be lower after such elapsed time of three months or so. Not to mention if it's even gonna still be available at amz-jp at that po-pricing...

"Heck no!" is my honest answer. I don't think it even looks as good as MP10, let alone being an improvement. I might be tempted if/when Hasbro releases it if the price is comparable to MP10. And if it has a less bland toy-based deco. But over $300 for a figure that doesn't even manage to look as good as the last version? No thanks.

Heck, last night I was reposing my DX9 Dutch, and even that looks better to me than MP44, at least in terms of deco.

...It's still a toy, whether you like it or not. And you can find it as bizarre as you like. I display my figures in a case, sure, but that does not stop me from taking them out and transforming them back and forth every now and then. If the price never sinks that low, fine, I'll stick with my MP-10 that I got for less than a quarter of the price.
    Exactly.

Some pretty decent discounts on this guy, although I expected that to an extent. I can actually get him for about $450 AUD shipped. Much less than retail. Still, price wasn't my reason for skipping MP-44 so it hasn't changed my vote.

If you think that a robot wearing big giant lion shaped snow boots and some ugly disportionate lions (who better resemble big headed rats than lions ...), all of them totally NOT show accurate (since the lions legs should disappear in combined form), with a transformation that is much much more simple than old prime, means a far greater craftmanship than mp 44 ...
    ...well, ok ...
