Wierd that hasbro commissioned idw to make prequel comics that don't even relate to the movie then. Maybe the idea to change the movie from a prequel to a reboot happened late in production. I actually would have been really interested to see the bb and diabla storyline conclude in the movie but guess that ship has sailed.

 

I am really looking forward to this movie!

The Beetle that Steinfeld drove is modified with automatic transmission. Interesting.

 

According to the one person in there it was because she couldn't drive shift, and that makes a lot of sense as most cars are automatic.

My question now is, will this movie get VW to make new beetles or at least promote them more?

 

LOL and I can't even drive automatic.

Unfortunately, isn't this year gonna be the last Beetle year? I don't know if VW has any interest to keep prolonging Beetle lifetime since Golf pretty much replace it.

 

So, I've seen a new TV spot. I'm 99% sure Bee is not a Beetle at this scene. But.... the shapes reminds me of the Old camaro, I can even see some black stripes, yet he looks nothing like in the 2007 movie.

 

Has anyone seen the new trailer? did they just show Blitzwing's death...

If that's true then that'd that's depressing as I was hoping to get one.

Yes and we see an explosion but most transformers are tougher than that. So while we get a nice boom, that doesn't mean he's dead at that moment.

Just saw Bumblebee! I'll post some overall impressions then some specifics in the spoiler tags.

This movie definitely felt like they "got" transformers, and what makes transformers so fun. The FUN of having a big robot friend, the FUN of seeing them transform over and over, the FUN of having them punch each other, and the FUN of seeing how human they can be.

Overall really liked it. There was a lot less action than the 07 movie, so I will still enjoy that one a lot, but this one really took things in a good direction IMO. If there were one or two less bee/charlie scenes and one or two more scenes fighting the decepticons I'd have been even happier, but it's OK I guess. I wanted to see more of shatter in particular. Here are some random thoughts with some spoilers!!!:

- This is clearly a soft reboot. Optimus shouldn't be on earth til 2007.

- Pamela Adlon was a nice suprise. The family antics were funnier than I thought they would be. The humor overall was mostly very funny.

- Bee is just fucking adorable. I finally get the love for him.

- They did the "cut away to the human when the robots are about to fight" thing that I hated from the Bay movies. I feel like directors will never learn to just focus on the robots for a good minute or two at a time. My girlfriend however said it was the perfect amount of robot fighting for her and she wouldn't have enjoyed it if there had been too much more.

- This movie is definitely enjoyable for adults but it's also a great family movie and great for dates if you're with someone who doesn't mind a little cheese.

- What was the point of Charlie diving into the water at the end? Just to show Bee he should swim up? That scene crossed the cheese line IMO.

- The designs are a lot more G1 now and I thought it would bother me more than it did but there were a couple exceptions: Soundwave and Cliffjumper looked way too cartoony for me and it took me out of the movie. All the other designs were pretty cool, especially the bots who were on earth.

- Optimus continues to be a total badass and I want to see him get his own movie! I'd love it if they continue to do one-offs and other more interesting movies that don't have the traditional focus. I think Transformers is more suited towards a "cinematic universe" than some other things.

- Blitzwing was awesome. It's a shame all the decepticons had to die again, but at least no big names died needlessly like in the bay movies.

- The movie was SO similar story-wise to the 07 movie, but it really shows you what a different director and story FOCUS can do to change a movie. Bay was definitely focused on the spectacle and Knight was definitely focused on the "heart" of it all. I'd love to see him do more Transformers movies, but with a little more spectacle. Maybe 15% more. I think if he did a sequel to Bee I'd be happy but it'd also be cool to get an Optimus movie like what's been rumored. I'd also love to see a wreckers movie, a decepticon-focused movie, a beast wars movie, etc!

Optimus and the other Autobots could easily leave Earth some time in the next 30 years and return after the trace of the Allspark is found on Earth.

Another problem though is that Bumblebee, Shatter, and Dropkick, appear to be the first TFs that Sector 7 ever met. Megatron is not mentioned whatsoever by them. This is especially notable since their base is still in Hoover Dam.
