Not sure if this has been posted already, but here ya go. Not a big fan of this particular repaint. I don't get the random chunks of dark brown, and I've seen the tattoo deco SO MUCH over the years I didn't need to see it again. Sawblade is cool but def not enough for me:

Studio Series Revenge Of The Fallen Starscream

 

I'll buy pretty much any movie starscream figure. Love the design..love the character..even thought the "tattoo" thing was pretty tough, even thug like.
Studio series movie 1 starscream is a toy of beauty. The paint job on it is fantastic, so when this tattoo version from ROTF was announced I was excited big time.

What a let down.

It's just ugly. I've been accused by my wife as being color blind with some blues and blacks..but the medium grey used for lower legs and arms..just has this ugly shade of raisin or purple...the bot mode's darker choices in spots just does not work well for me. Now the gold detail used looks really out of place.

But by far...what I was MOST in this for was jet mode.

Its ruined. Dont buy this for jet mode. I wanted that rotf leader looking jet mode in studio series...NOPE. they screwed the pooch and molded 2 of the panels that sit directly smack dab in the middle of the fuselage this dark ass, out of place grey. I tried to get over it...nope...jet mode is ruined and NOT representative of the studio series. We're paying the $5 extra and they failed here. Those 2 panels should have been fuselage color matched, even if they had to make a new small spru off of the original tool, or something.
I'm not saying "it's cool brah..its a kids toy man.." well..no...I'm kinda happily and willingly paying more for these guys that are geared more as an adult collectable...I mean..that's what Hasbro said right?

So...no. this isn't acceptable. I'm not buying a sticker for this one...I'm not painting it..they should have had a color matched part with the sweet ass tattoos on it like it should.

The mold itself is a A+

This should not be allowed on a studio series. If this continues I will get selective on my buying of them.

I'd avoid this one. Look at the movie 1 paint job...its gorgeous. This one looks like ass in both modes. Not trying to be negative here..but I think this truly is the sphincter of the studio series line. I have em all so far...this is by far the worst looking one imho.

 

Wow, that really does seem like a massive step backwards...horrible.

 

What a shame. This repaint could've been awesome if it were just SS-06 with added tattoos. As I feared, the random tan plastic and tacky gold paint only hurt the deco and make this a pass for me. My love for circular saws only goes so far...

 

The tattoos look horrible anyway, so it's a lateral move as far as I'm concerned. There was no way I was buying this no matter what; I already own two Starscreams with the tattoos – HFTD leader and the DOTM deluxe – so I have no interest in a third.

Really? I was actually looking forward for this... I was hoping this would be my definite movie Screamer (I only picked up the og one for the missile launcher and for 07 cast completion sake). Regardless, I’m still gonna pick this guy up. Guess I’ll have to repaint him. And yea, that random black piece does look out of place.

 

Funny, I found myself liking the robot mode in hand. Different strokes for different folks I guess.

I will agree though, that in jet mode SS06 is the superior toy.

Seriously though I'm sorry you're disappointed in this. I didn't think it super necessary but if I saw it in person I might have gotten it depending. There are definitely some odd color choices that don't make sense. They really should have gone with an overall darker color scheme like the leader as you said, to match with that dark Optimus they already gave us.

I've heard that a lot actually, that "it's better in person". We'll see. This ain't one I'm rushing out to get at all.

 

I guess the fact that QC on my ROTF screamer is better (tighter joints) helped influence my overall positive opinion of the toy  

 

Really? My 07 screamer is basically perfect.

 

yeah my ROTF Screamer feels tighter overall especially around the leg area.


If you do get the fig and realize it's colored like crap, then we know that I have horrible taste in colors hahaha

 

That's one thing I forgot to mention...you guys said your has tighter joints. Not this one. The legs at both knees are very loose.

I think maybe some detailing could make the bot mode look kick ass...but not much can save the jet mode.

 

Well at least one of yours had tight joints.

I'm wondering it it isn't easier to create a stencil or use tape or something to just add tattoos to the 07 screamer... Sounds like a lot of work so maybe someone will just release a decal set. I really wish this one at least had another weapon or something. I didn't want to get dotm ratchet just because he had a gun but it was seeing him in the store that convinced me. Those colors really do work better on him. Not so sure about this guy yet.

 

What a let down

 

The black pieces on the spine of the Fighter mode might be molded in plastic that doesn't take paint well. Notice that on the TF1 version, those pieces are molded in a light gray that's also different from other areas of the toy.

 

I noticed the same, but I still say they could have at least tried. Hell..even if they put a sticker on it I would be totally cool with it, knowing the limitations and costs associated with making the 2 parts match. The pieces share the same spru as the hands (which look terrible in this color as well).
They should have just retained the base color on that spru, and painted the parts a dark color that they wanted to do that to.

Keep in mind I really was hoping the plastic choices on this one were identical to the movie 1, with just tattoos. Not the case.

Jet mode suffers bad from it.

 

I prefer the ROTF paintjob in the movies, but yeesh. Glad I got the first release of this figure and didn't wait for this guy. Ugly indeed.

 

That was confusing, I skipped the review and just checked out the pics and thought "daaaaang lookin good". Then I kept reading all the negative comments. Oh well.

 

i mean, viewed overhead with the engines and nosecone, the black panels at least look kinda cool... but still not great.
