If "Beast Wars Returns" is the "fake" Japanese name for Beast Machines, does that make Armada the "fake" American name for Micron Legend? Or "Robots in Disguise" (2001) the "fake" American name for Car Robots?

Nice box. Hopefully the figure inside is just as nice.
Get out, troll. We know you're only here to spread your ignorant hate everywhere.
And how exactly is it "fake"? It's the actual name for the series in Japan.

I'm gonna be completely honest, I just don't like the Japanese versions of Transformers. It's total bias. I went on a tfwiki spree researching all the things Takara's done to Transformers, and came out of the experience filled with total disdain for Takara.

You're letting your hatred blind you. Takara created the original toylines that later went on to become Transformers. While they might have created such unforgettable things as Kiss Players, they're not the ones responsible for bringing Michael Bay into the franchise. On top of that, Takara are the masterminds behind the Masterpiece line, and until the "Brand Unity" push they released far more desirable toys, whether they were better painted or featured retooling that fixed issues with the Hasbro versions. In some cases, they even had their own exclusive figures (Godbomber, who never saw a Western release yet again anyone?)

Im wondering what made Takara go for mold again. Was it because of all the BW MPs? I know Beast Wars gets more love in Japan than in the US.

It never got its own release in Japan, only as a TRU exclusive "USA Edition". This is the first time this figure gets a retail release there.

That doesn’t really answer the "Why now?"-question, but it is a mold they never really got before so that's a reason to do it.

To be honest, TFwiki is the definition of bias when it comes to their treatment of the Japanese fiction. They flat out refuse to use Japanese terminologies when they are needed, and only use Japanese names when they have no other option. It got to the point that I had to switch to the Japanese Wikipedia page (with the help of a translator) just to get accurate information. :redface2:

And when it comes to TakaraTomy, I do have a few issues with them. I just cannot use TFwiki to accurately detail those issues. :popcorn

Pft! I buy seventeen of every figure! One to play with, one to paint as its Shattered Glass counterpart, one to keep in the box, one to keep in the box in the shipping box, one to donate to charity, one to donate to the Tokyo Toy Museum, one as a chew toy for my dog, one for my son, one for my other son, one for my wife, one for my homies, one to put on a space shuttle to send out in search of alien life, one in a time capsule, one to the crazy homeless guy who comes into my office sometimes, one for my mom, one for your mom (you know who you are), and one so I can say I buy seventeen of every figure.

Nope. I have the Year of the Monkey version, no need to buy another of this mold. (Unless it hits the basement price that YotM did...then...maybe..)

Just because you don’t like it doesn’t mean it’s fake

Hasbro has also released figures Takara never got, it happened more frequently from Takara but it’s not like hasbro never had exclusive figures or molds in a line

Okay. The big question. Does anyone know if it'll be possible to swap the voice box out for the US version that I have? I'd love to have a figure that doesn't fall apart with Gary Chalk's voice.

The tricky part is that the wiring for the voice box is also wired to the LEDs while also being tied to the batteries needed to power it. Some care would need to also be taken with the various gimmicks tied to it as well such as the disc launcher, punching arm and jetpack.

I can't imagine it would be just a simple switcharoo.

I tried it to little success... I got a junker AA Primal for the electronics, but most of the screws were in so tight that I ended up stripping them. I'll need to "carefully" take a hammer or saw to the centre of the figure, but even then I think I disconnected a wire or two trying to get it all out already.

Basically it's a massive hassle if it's even possible without breaking something, best just to take out the batteries and ignore the electronics if you're not a fan of the Japanese voice.

Thanks for the heads up! Just a follow-up question, if you don't mind. Are screws the only things that need removing? Are there any pins or hinges or glued-together pieces that need to be taken apart as well? I don't mind damaging the US one, but it's going to be all for naught if I can't open up the JPN one as well.

I got it down to just the body piece that contains the electronics and it was all just (lots of) screws. In theory it should be possible to get the electronics out just by removing screws, it's just very difficult given the tightness of said screws and the fragility of the electronics.
