Wow, this'll be a 3.5 month break from all "continuing series" TF comics for IDW (December, January, now Feb). An entire quarter without TFs isn't the way I would've run that noise back, but hey, it's their company...hopefully we see something sometime in Q2.
Actually, a reboot should have a nice time for people to unwind and begin to miss it. DC did that in the 90s after the Death of Superman and the Funeral for a Friend Arcs. They dropped all four monthlies for months. Gone. Nothing. When they brought the titles back, every new teased picture (whited-out silhouettes of the four "new Supermen") was on every network nightly news. It was the lead story even on Entertainment Tonight. When Dreamwave brought back Transformers the only comic that outsold its initial six issue miniseries was when Jim Lee was drawing Batman. Obviously, this reboot won't sell anywhere near that well without some major name talent on board. But that absence will still make it sell better than it was selling before.
They should start a new series with transformers IDW so people like me can read and not have to spend hours of buying and reading the old ones
I just hope they let us know from the beginning if there are gonna be crossovers. Let's me know if I even need to bother getting invested.
After mtmte/ll I wouldn't mind if they made the new universe a bunch of limited series instead of ongoing since I can't see them being able to get anyone who can outdo Roberts in terms of long form storytelling.
That is how the IDW continuity began and for years, those of us who were reading, were begging them to just do an on-going.
More importantly, I don't think the environment exists for IDW anymore where they can afford to have a 6 year long form plotline play out in the way that it did. I suspect this is a confluence of events that is not going to repeat itself for a very long time, if ever.
It's really sad to see IDW's financial trouble considering just how influential their stuff has been for TF at large and how goo the Barber/Roberts/Scott era is/was. Also screw those spiteful assholes hoping for them to lose the licence/go out of business because they personally disliked phase 2.
And now they've done it really really well and I think they should hold off doing another until they can match it.
Jumping on point for new readers are also jumping off points for older readers. Goodbye idw, it's been fun. (PS: Visionaries was a terrible fucking idea)
If this is all to get me to buy the damned Gobots comic to get my robot fix, then ... it's probably going to work. Keeping my fingers crossed that when TFs do come back it's in some wild, experimental form. Maybe Cybertronians as explorers or some sort of Judge Dredd thing. I'll give a fighty-fighty comic a go, but seeing as I can't even be bothered to watch the new cartoon because of how bored I am with Autobots vs. Decepticons, I'm not sure I'll last with a comic covering the same ground.
I’ll defintiely get the Unicron TP to finish off my LL and OP collections, but after that idk. I’m eager to see where the reboot goes
